Sword: Form and Thought: 9 (Armour and Weapons)
I**7
very expensive
I like swords, collecting them and occasionally lecture on them as part of an archaeology project i am involved with. To appreciate the contents of this book you must be really into this subject. This book is not for the beginner or even for someone who has read a couple of general histories. However, if you are into this subject some of the contents are absolutely fascinating. Battle damage to bronze age swords springs to mind. The stand out subject for me was on sword pommels as portrayed in Carolingian manuscripts. If true, and believe me this was well researched, we may have to think again typology and the dating of swords. I will not spoil it for the true enthusiast, but it is really worth looking into. A book for the dedicated sword enthusiast only and on this basis, if you are a general reader you may find this too expensive for the content.
