MEV Bible Personal Size Large Print Cherry Brown: Modern English Version

A Wonderful Devotional Bible
I enjoy my Study Bibles and use them often, but sometimes I want a mostly text-only Bible that I can use purely for devotional reading. This MEV large print cherry brown personal Bible meets that need. It gives me a warm and friendly feeling because I can easily hold it and because I find it very attractive with its soft imitation leather cover, its pages that are not ultra thin, and its large print (which truly is large, dark, and very readable). This is a Bible that anyone could comfortably read in bed.The Bible has an occasional footnote and a useful 132-page double-column concordance. Its short, one-paragraph introductions to the various books, its smyth-sewn binding, its rose gold gilding on the pages and its satin ribbon add to its warm and friendly feeling and to the assurance that it will last a long time. Additionally, unlike many Bibles today, it is fairly inexpensive.I am not a Bible expert or scholar by any means but have read that this MEV Bible has some words or phrases that an update might improve. For example, in Isaiah 58:8, "reward" should really be "rear guard." In Psalm 10:5, the phrase "they scoff at him" would be better translated as "he scoffs at them." Any first edition of a Bible will have some places that an update would improve. Think of all the updates that have been made to the ESV translation. I am not taking off any stars because these places are not numerous and because it is a first edition. A page at the beginning even says, "Like all translations of the Bible, this translation of the Scriptures is subject to human limitations. . . . Should a mistake be found, please feel free to contact the publisher."If an update is in the works, it would be nice to have words that have been added to the text italicized, as is done in the KJV. In addition, I found all the references to "The Adversary" in the book of Job rather jarring. They also broke the rhythm of the lines. Why not just stick with Satan and perhaps include a note that his name means the Adversary? Finally, I don't understand why a footnote in John 8:7 indicates that 7:53-8:11 (the story of the woman caught in adultery) does not appear in the earliest GK manuscripts but there is no similar footnote for the longer ending of Mark (16:9-20), which most scholars seem to feel was not in the style of Mark and was added later. However, these suggestions do not take away from my enthusiasm about this Bible and my feeling that buying it right now was an excellent investment. The committee that put it together has succeeded very well in reaching a target audience of people who would like a modernized KJV Bible that happily and mostly keeps to the cadence and style of the original KJV, is very easy on the eyes, and is perfect for devotional reading.I would never give up reading the original KJV because it is difficult any more than I would give up reading Shakespeare because he is difficult. It is interesting to see the choices made by the translators as they worked to turn seventeenth-century language into modern speech. What is gained, and what is lost? A case can be made for both, the original and the modern, one alongside the other. I plan to read a book in the MEV first, a devotional reading, then read the same book in the original King James. As an English major, I will find doing so fascinating.

Beautiful Bible
Beautiful Bible. The cover is soft leather and feels like very high quality. The print is larger than in most Bibles and thus is easier to read.

Nearly Perfect!
This is my first MEV (2024 edition) and I love it. I usually read NLT, but I also read my NKJV bible. The MEV (2024) is a happy medium. They kept the beauty of the NKJV while enhancing readability. I discovered this version on my YouVersion Bible app. This bible have 12 pt font size. The color of the red letters are nice as well. The pages have a nice redish/brown guilding on them.It would be a perfect bible if the paper was a better quality and thicker. It would also be great if they added two thicker ribbons instead of one thin ribbon.

A great companion Bible to the Authorized King James Version of 1611
This is a well crafted, well PRINTED Bible. The imitation leather is supple and really attractive. The binding is sewn, not glued. The red letters are a darker red and easily legible... not pink or light pink, like many Bibles have... which still bewilders me!? The size of the font is a comfortable size (and a really clear, enjoyable font). Large, but not overly so. Thus far, I have found the text to follow VERY closely to the KJV, doing a good job of not wandering off into 'dynamic equivalence". I was not born in 17th century England, so I carry no guilt about the need for American English representative of the solid and fruitful translators' work as found in the Authorized Version. The MEV provides this beautifully and reverently. I purchased the MEV new Giant print recently, and the print is nearly the same size as the 'Large' print version, and horribly light, ESPECIALLY the "red" letters, which are a barely legible... literally pink. I DO NOT recommend it. I returned it, quite disappointed. BUT, I still recommend the LARGE print Personal size MEV Bible. It's a solid, well-crafted Bible at a reasonable price. It is not a conversational, idiomatic, liberal and problematic version like the NIV, a version who's publishing rights and ownership are found in one Rupert Murdock, whom Karol Wojtyla (aka John Paul 2) "knighted" in 1998. A man now alleged to be an adherent of the Roman-Constantinian-Occultic hybrid known as the Roman 'catholic' "church". It's important to know who's "fingerprints" are on your version, before you find yours on it. See who owns the publishing rights. The seemingly never-ending presence of "new and improved" Bible translations has caused a great deal of confusion, and many betray an underlying agenda which can be dangerous to a faithful understanding of God's Word... and an even more subtle message (by the sheer number of and excuses for the avalanche of versions and editions) that you can't really know if what you hold in your hands is in fact reliable... accurately preserved. The money/profit factor is not missing either in the rationale for the confusion. So, I use the MEV for a reliable, readable version, and keep my Authorized Version close by as well. I do believe the Authorized Version 1611 / 1769 is where God's Word is found perfectly preserved in the English tongue, despite the protests of those who curiously and subjectively deride it. If forced to make a choice, I would lay my MEV aside, and hold to the Authorized KJV without hesitating or flinching one bit.

Beautiful! Text is readable! 📚
This translation is something I've always wanted to have on hand. The Bible is absolutely beautiful. The text size though is the best part. I think so many Bibles have such small print they are not even readable. Not so with this Bible, the text is completely readable. Would recommend!

Good shipping, nice text font 10 or about
All in All a good bible. A majority of the pages take a little effort to turn the first time because of the gold leaf. A little blow at the top or bottom edge usually takes care of the sticking. I am happy with the price and quality.
