Product works well for growing veggies, but made out of unreliable materials

*by M***O on Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2018*

This works very well as a small greenhouse over my vegetables. The 28" size works well over 25" resin pots from Costco that I grown many vegetables in. I sometimes use them to get seeds like spinach and arugula started and they work well in protecting lettuce. I've even been able to grow cilantro and dill in January! I live in N. California and we get frost from late December through March sometimes. I actually never use the stakes because the pots keep the greenhouse covers in place for most of the time unless we have really bad winds. However, while I do like the design, use these regularly and plan to buy more, their rods are very flimsy and will snap on their own. They bend and are supposed to be flexible to hold the shape, but they can break very easily just from the stress. The plastic is decent but can also rip easily. After about 2-3 seasons, the plastic disintegrates. I've owned several of these over four years and repaired them as well as I can with duct tape and clear tape. While I can try to join the snapped pieces of the rod with duct tape, the pop-up cover never regains its shape. I try to buy these when they are under $25; I don't think that they are worth more than this judging by the cheap materials and all the repairs I've made to them. They are unfortunately the only product on the market that fits over my pots so well.

Great Protection in Moderate Climate Areas

*by U***L on Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2019*

I have many of these covers, and I actually use them year round. In the winter they provide a bit of protection to keep crops like peppers producing into January, and have even helped me overwinter plants that otherwise would behave like perennials. In the spring they help me get plants started early, and in the summer and fall I can keep birds from decimating new growth on plants. They are not entirely trouble-free: the cross-bars sometimes snap from tension, but the plastic has never failed. I have cannibalized the cross-bars to salvage a cover, and have used the covers without the cross-bars over other types of supports, so broken ones aren't a total loss. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area (Berkeley), where we don't have much freezing in winter and not a lot of high heat in the summer, so the little extra insulation these provide really help my plants. I don't know how much help they would be where it gets really cold, and think they might be problematic where it gets really hot, even though they have ventilation windows to let the heat escape.

Actually, the meyer lemon bush loves it

*by R***O on Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2014*

When I first bout the meyer lemon plant from a local nursery, it had six large lemons on it. The bush looked like it was cut back slightly, but it was in a 5 gallon planter. First year, I had it in the ground - no more lemons grew from it - very little new growth. I looked up info on the web. Some Meyer lemon tree owners claimed that it should be in a container that can be transported to a shelter during the cold, so I did this. Another year went by - very little growth - no lemons. Then I went back to the nursery. The manager/owner rec'd a processed chicken fertilizer and planting it next to a brick wall where it can get heat. I did. Another year passed - very little growth - no lemons. I jumped to the conclusion that this plant was grown in a hot house of sorts. The meyer lemon has been in the NuVue Greenhouse for about 3 months since January - there's lots of new growth and many new lemons coming out.
