When Albert Stockwell (Rufus Sewell) comes home from work one day he finds a note from his wife of 15 years, Nancy (Maria Bello), saying she has gone to see friends. After waiting several days, Albert realizes that his wife is missing. Nancy has met her salvation on the Internet in the form of Louis Farley (Jason Patric). Nancy and Louis, both wounded souls, take comfort in one another through e-mail, pictures, and promises of perverse sexual encounters. Nancy has finally found the one and only thing that can liberate her from the pain in her life. While she pursues the freedom that she feels will only come with ultimate liberation, Albert is left to put the pieces together and try to salvage what is left.

Well done, disturbing
A difficult topic, but very well acted. Also, the era is captured so well here that I kept checking the release date to make sure it wasn't actually an 80s film.

Chilling to the Bone...
Before I go any further, I will inform you that a case like this actually happened in real life. A woman committed suicide by hiring a man over the internet to torture and strangle her. Like this film's main character, Nancy Stockwell, the real-life woman, Sharon Lopatka, was unhappy with her life and wanted to "feel something". I'm not sure that ever comes across 100% in this film. Sure, Maria Bello, playing Nancy Stockwell, did her best to show us that, but this film strived more than anything else to be creepy. Jason Patric, playing Louis Farley, the man who agreed to kill Stockwell, certainly accomplished that as I got chills just from him still being in the movie about halfway through. But, given the grim story being told here, that just isn't enough. Also, Stockwell's husband, Albert Stockwell, played by Rufus Sewell, just seemed lost in a generic way. Yes, he was upset over what happened to his wife, but it was a performance we've seen a hundred times before in movies featuring the loss of a loved one. Ultimately, I gave this film a high rating simply because of the effort put into tackling such a grim plot. Maybe someone else will see something I missed, because chilling as it already is, this film could have been more. Enjoy.

Amazon is great but this movie....
I give the actors and Amazon the stars. The writer sucked and the director should have made them keep it from DRAGGING.Actors should decline stuff with no real point and bad filming techniques. This was totally B to C rating to me.Actually was trying to see how Mr. Patric was fairing in acting since the Lost Boys original. Seems his manager sucks at putting him in lead positions. With a little more weight, at his age, he could easily be the new older guy the ladies would love!

Didn't like it!
Characters were unsympathetic and no feeling. Wasn't expecting a happy ending or hopeful but I just simply couldn't relate to decisions that were made by the characters.

Brilliant, under appreciated film.
This movie is incredibly beautiful, thoughtful and moving. It is an in depth and highly realistic portrait of a woman's mental health disintigration and the people who both contributed to it and tried to save her in their own ways.

downloading nancy was on ok drama. the premise is a little underwhelming. I just don't think we care enough about Nancy or her situation.her husbands decent into a similar depression/insanity was out there.also the ending just feels anti-climactic and so lazy.

Savage Realism.
This film is unique. Violence is rampant, but it's not what carries the film. The performances from Mario Bello and Jason Patrick are as real as they are disconcerting. It's beautiful, bleak and raw. It's a love story.

The most disturbing movie I've watched
A very disturbing film. Nancy has been mentally, physically and sexually abused by her Uncle as a child. Now a married woman, she leaves a note for her husband that she has gone to see friends. Her husband does not seem to be worried when it appears she has actually vanished. It turns out that Nancy has met someone online who can meet her desires for BDSM and in the end the person she meets gives in to her final wish. Based on a true story our sympathy for Nancy and hope for her future happiness is opposed by her own desire to die. She refers to her husband as the husband in her online diary and she seems almost completely disassociative from her married life and career The man she meets for BDSM is totally unredeemable character even though he tries to convince Nancy that the promises he made to her can't be enforced as he made them to her online. We feel little or no sympathy for the husband whose reaction to her leaving and disappearance display few emotions. He does not appear to mourn his loss of her at all. This is a disturbing film and not one for those who get emotionally triggered. I spent my time hoping Nancy's therapist would suddenly commit her to a mental care facility for the intensive treatment she obviously needed, hoping that the man she met online would get arrested for some other crime and that her husband would show some form of emotion other than anger. But this film is not about what the viewer wants, it is a film about the tragedy of the results of child abuse and its long term outcome and how one women sought peace.

Do not buy.
bad disc. Would not play on DVD player. Computer had a little better success. but made terrible noise. So all i could do was skim the video content to see what the story was like, as there was 'no way' i was going to endure the noise from DVD drive for the whole duration of the movie. Story looked terrible.
