Drake Off Road Tools 400 Welding Gloves Lined Leather, Blue - 14"

Great price for a nice quality pair of gloves that I use for my wood burning insert. I had a more expensive pair of "fire place" gloves last year that only held up for one season so I decided I would buy welding gloves. The welding gloves are of a much better construction than the previous product I owned and so far have held up well. I use them regularly to open and close the wood burning insert and they manage the heat just fine. I also use them to pick up hot coals and logs and, while I can feel the heat, it is still comfortable. I don't recommend holding anything that's on fire for more than few seconds. If they were a few inches longer it would be nice so I could comfortably reach the back of my stove, but that's not what they're made for so it doesn't affect my rating. Just be cautious and you'll be fine.

I've had the same pair of these gloves for about 3.5 years now, using them a few times a week. They take a little breaking in, but they're the best pair of welding gloves I've ever had. I didn't have any of the fitment problems that other people have had, but I guess that's just the luck of your hand size. Like another reviewer said, they're designed to be able to flick off easily if they get too hot. Now having said that, I've only had to do that maybe twice, in hours and hours of welding and other hot work. They are VERY well insulated. Sometimes I'll get impatient and starting handling work pieces too soon, either after welding, torching, or plasma operations. I'll notice the fingers of the glove start smoking where I'm touching the metal but I can't feel anything unless I foolishly continue to hold it for another 20 seconds or so. I also use them to pull freshly cast aluminum pieces from the sand, also with no burning to my hands. I see a lot of reviews talking about using them to handle wood stove doors and such - I'm using them to handle things way hotter than that, so I imagine these would be ideal for flipping firewood and cast iron stoves. They're finally getting to the point where I'm starting to wear them out (I've been getting lazy and also using them for work gloves from time to time), and I plan to just re-order this same pair again.

Exactly what I was looking for. I was tired of constantly burning my hands putting wood in the stove. These are perfect for that job. They are large but not unwieldy. I wear a mens small but I can still pick up the wood with no problem. The length is great for protecting most of my arm as well. I have no concerns putting my gloved hands into the wood box (instead of throwing the logs in and hoping they land where I want them too) and shifting the wood as needed. I don't think they would protect for prolonged periods of touching the super hot surfaces but for the amount of time I need to load the box or adjust the wood they work great. Update: Have had these gloves just over a year now and they are still working well but I am going to order another pair because I am starting to feel some heat coming through when I touch the stove door. I will probably not use the new ones to shut the door to help them last longer. I could probably keep using them if I stopped closing the door with them since I don't have any problems just putting the wood in, but I can use them in the basement where the stove has a handle on the door. Still extremely happy with them and still recommend them for the same purpose as I bought them.

he good: These gloves are sold at a great price from Amazon (got mine for only $11), and they do a great job of blocking heat. I use them for loading wood into my stove and handling the damper on the stovepipe, and I feel no heat whatsoever. With my regular gloves, my hands would feel like they were on fire, if there was a hot bed of coals. The material seems to be well made and durable (I will update if there are any issues with longevity). The length is also very good, providing ample protection of the wrist and lower forearm (anything longer would be unwieldy, so I'm glad I didn't buy the longer ones). So for the most part, these gloves are fantastic. However, there is... Some bad: These are only available in one size for some reason, and that size is LARGE. I would be a medium, so these gloves are way too big for me. Since I only use them when I'm loading the stove, they're fine, even though the size is not ideal. However, there is no way I would want to try welding with these, because there is too much extra finger room, limiting my mechanical dexterity. This is something to definitely keep in mind, if you're purchasing these for the purpose of welding, or will need to do some kind of work that requires good dexterity. Different sizes should be available! Also, the color is nowhere near what they manufacturer posted for a photo. This isn't a huge deal, so long as you don't mind bright, royal blue gloves, but this product inaccuracy is frustrating. Finally, these gloves are made in China, which I feel is deceptive, since the company goes by the name of "U.S. Forge". They further hide their origin by printing this nugget of information on a tiny tag way up inside of the glove... it wasn't easy to find or read (this is also where the size is revealed). This information is not printed anywhere on the big piece of cardboard that keeps the gloves attached, although they did find the time to print "U.S. Forge" all over it in huge text.

These gloves work incredibly well with my woodstove. Last week the chimney cap clogged (the screen was ignored during the flu cleaning) and smoke started filling the house since it couldn't go out the top. I had to put the fire out so here is what I did: I took a five gallon bucket (plastic was all I had lol) and I filled it half full of water, then I put on these gloves and PICKED up each of the three burning logs and dropped them in the bucket of water....then out the backdoor. Scooped out the burning coals (ash shovel) and put them in my metal ash bucket and ran them out the backdoor then filled the coals to the top with water (I didn't want to burn the paint off my ash bucket). I knew the gloves were good because when I use them reloading the stove I don't need burn cream like I do when I'm just casually tossing in a log with no gloves. These gloves are the perfect length and size to go over your shirt sleeves and protect your forearms. They will heat up with prolonged contact but provide enough protection to reach into the stove and quickly rearrange things. I can see these gloves holding up a few seasons easy....even when pulling burning logs out of the stove with your hair standing on end. :-)

I am new to welding and checked the previous reviews about these gloves. All I know is during my practice welding session I was holding a piece of flat iron in my hands for quite some time and then set it down. I looked and noticed it was glowing red (I was not holding it at the red portion but just below it). I felt NO heat in my hand. These gloves are durable and protect your hands amazingly well. Pros: + comfortable + fits mid size to large hands well + quality construction + made in the USA Cons: (minor) - color comes off easily on the finger tips with alot of use. Overall these gloves are perfect for your welding jobs. Thanks for reading my review.

I'm not a welder, I used to be a welder's apprentice... But I use wood burning stoves to heat my house and my cabin. These gloves are my fireplace gloves, and I use them when I'm stoking an already-hot fire, or adding fuel for the night. When I'm adding logs for the long night, they have to be arranged to fit 6 hours worth of logs in the firebox. Without these gloves, the process would be a challenge, using pokers like chopsticks to rearrange the logs from a foot away. These gloves let me put the logs into the firebox by hand, I can even briefly hold a flaming log if I have to, to get the job done. These are outstanding gloves. They have put up with my abuse for two winters now, including getting wet from snowy logs, and scalded from flaming ones. I would absolutely recommend these to a friend as fireplace gloves, and I already have. For welding... I should mention that I have held onto the hot metal parts of my wood stove with these gloves. After about a minute the heat becomes uncomfortable. In less than two minutes, I would classify that feeling as pain. I would say these are fine for picking up and moving hot metal pieces... Or holding something in place long enough to tack it on. But you shouldn't use these to hold an item for the whole weld.

I bought these gloves as they were featured as a recommended glove for grilling, not welding.. so you can probably ignore this review if looking at them for welding purposes. I was grilling some vegetables in a grill-skillet and thought these would be the perfect tool to handle such a situation. All was fine at first, then I let the vegetables and skillet handle heat up with the lid closed to cook the food. I go back to shake the skillet up a little bit and stir the veggies. Not long after I grabbed the handle (one of the thin-wire types), I noticed I could really feel the heat through these gloves, which I wasn't expecting. I've handled 600+ degree cast iron pans with 'Ove gloves just fine, so I guess I was mistakenly expecting a similar effect with these gloves. As far as the gloves go, they fit my big hand well and seem like they would be good at deflecting spark material or stray ash from a blazing charcoal chimney starter. The mobility for operating the glove is also nice, which is something I was looking for, as I already have a 'mitt' type BBQ glove set. However, for handling actual hot metal for more than a second or two, I would recommend looking at a different type of glove altogether. I'm trying something like the silicone-type mitts next, as I don't like risking the mess on a teflon-style glove.

Saw recommendations to use these as oven gloves. Used them to take out a tray from a 230 degree celcius oven and almost immediately dropped the tray. Heat went through the gloves easily. My silicon oven gloves performed better. Disappointed.

Really a great pair of gloves and at the price I got them at... well I should have gotten several pairs Lol. Have worn them for a while now, stick welding, and theyre great. Ive set them on fire a couple times, Lol, but theyre still great! Very durable and pretty comfortable. Definitely great for stick welding but maybe overkill for anything else. Definitely recommend them and would buy again.

I bought this glove to use for BBQing as a cheaper alternative and it works as intended. Able to pick up charcoal without issues and handle the grill. Albeit the glove is quite large for a smaller female, I am not planning to do anything intricate while wearing it anyways.
