Review: Great sunglasses for people with photophobia! - i am not a welder, I'm just somebody with extremely light sensitive eyes. This is especially annoying in a climate where there's snow on the ground half the year: snow + sun = I can't see at all. When I go skiing, I am either squinting or have my eyes closed--which makes it kind of hard to ski! In the summer when the sun is crazy bright, I have the same problem. I have sunglasses made for glacier travel, and they're better than other sunglasses, but still not dark enough for me. SO glad I stumbled on the idea of using welding glasses in place of sunglasses, because it is a game changer. For most people, these lenses would probably seem too dark and too green to use as sunglasses, but for me they are AMAZING. As I type this, I'm sitting in a room with big windows and there is sunlight reflecting off the snow outside. Without the glasses on, I can barely keep my eyes open. With the glasses on, I can sit in here comfortably and still see the computer just fine to type. As an added bonus, these look and fit like regular wrap around sunglasses, so I don't feel conspicuous in them. They also have foam on the top edge of the lenses, which really helps keep the light from getting in. They fit well on my face (which is on the wider side) and don't slide down my nose. (For those who need to know: the temple width is 140mm.) The only thing I don't like about them as sunglasses is the green tint, but if I had to, I would happily take 5 times as much green if it meant my eyes get to be as happy as they are in these. Which is to say, that's a pretty minor complaint. I suspect it's not legal to drive in these, which is too bad, and somewhat ironic, since I can see much better when my eyes are OPEN and not squinting! If you're light sensitive and regular sunglasses haven't worked, give these a try!
Review: Great, inexpensive protection for oxy-acetylene cutting...great fit and fashionable, too - These are my go-to glasses for quick cuts. They work well and are fashionable enough to wear on super bright days driving into the sun. I highly recommend them as they stay put and protect well your eyes. Great value and I don't have to deal anymore with junky elastic bands that don't last long and become extremely annoying when the elastic fails and you're forced to tie them to your head to keep them in place. UPDATE: Just bought another pair for shopin addition to pair I bought for service truck. Really like these for oxy cutting...not so much driving though (prefer normal sunglasses) as they're really so dark it's difficult to see other than driving directly into the sun. If anything fogs, put some Cat Crap on the lens.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Are these dark enough to look at an eclipse?**
A: You would need a number 14 lens to safely view a solar eclipse. My colleagues and I watched one from a foundry parking lot in Sedona using several welding hood lenses each adding up to 14 or 15 with no ill effects. We just took them out of our hoods and the (supply cabinet) and piled them on top of each other until we got to the proper value. Then we held them over our eyes by the edges of the 2 to three lenses.

**Q: Are they safe for Plasma cutting?**
A: They are awesome for plasma cutting and for just about any metal work.

**Q: Can these be used to block infared (red) light?**
A: No

**Q: Can I use these for jewelry welding?**
A: Yes. I use the for plasma cutting.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great sunglasses for people with photophobia!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dark Sunglasses is what I use them for
*by L***Y on July 8, 2013*

It is hard to get dark sunglasses and I even have a pair of Oakley Sunglasses that are very nice but not near as dark as i like, so most of the time I wear these. They work wonderful especially when driving down the highway toward the sun. Now they have quit a green tint that takes out a lot of color and if it gets cloudy you might need to take them off but hey these as so nice when it is bright out. They have a nice narrow pad around the eyes and I can use them with the touch at work if need. I highly recommend them. And like another guy said, they look pretty cool too, kinda like Cyclops shades from X-men.
