The Ballad of Rango: The Art & Making of an Outlaw Film Hardcover – January 1, 1994

The book arrived in good condition, no marks or tears, the binding was a little unhinged, but as I've heard that was just an issue with the first printed batches of the book. Either way, it didn't affect the readability or actual content so I was pretty pleased. It makes a great first addition to my art book collection.

I enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the images--the gorgeous artwork and character design--as well as the writing. However, I was left wanting much more. For a film that is so distinctly different looking than all of the other big name CG animated American films, I was really hoping for a bit more about the efforts they put into making this film so surreal and gritty and somewhat photo-real. I wish they went a teeny bit more technical with the texturing and such used on the characters, simply because it was gorgeously disgusting. I know that they needed to keep the book accessible to people who aren't in the CG industry/familiar with CG jargon, but this would have been a great place to introduce it.

this was a birthday gift for my roommate, and let me just say, it went over with a bang!! a must have if you're a fan of the movie.

Sturdy, durable pages. Lots of pictures, minimal type. All of the character designs from the movie, plus plenty of environment art and story boards.
