Perfect size! Great mounting system! Clever fold-out panniers!
OK, I have been using this bag daily on my work commute for about a month now, and I absolutely love it! I respect something that is well engineered and this bag certainly is that! That said, this bag is made to be used with Topeak MTX racks. If you don't have one of these, either buy one, or look for a different bag. While I gave this bag 5 stars, it is not perfect, but certainly worthy of 5-stars. First the good points: -Perfect size for what I wanted. I love the fact that I can have a clean looking bag on the rack that has fairly large panniers ready to fold out when needed. The main bag is pretty good sized. The bag comes with a velcro divider, that can be placed anywhere, but I don't use it as I prefer the single large space. That space will accommodate a carton of 12 eggs (actually 2 cartons). It will also hold a full sized iPad, although that has to go in at an angle, so it limits what else can be carried with it. It can also hold a medium size U-lock. -The easy click mounting on the rack is fabulous! Very easy to take on and off and very secure when mounted. The panniers include shock cords to loop around the bottom of your rack, so they are also very sturdy when utilized. The quick release is a very simple design, but works great. It also appears that if the spring ever broke, it would be replaceable by just removing one screw. I doubt that will be necessary, but I always like having repair options. - The panniers are well designed and hold enough for my needs. One pannier is able to accommodate a medium weight jacket or a pair of pants and shirt with ease. One pannier will also easily hold a pair of size twelve shoes. I have stuffed a fair amount of groceries in there, and it has held up fine so far, but I will revise this review in 6 months or so to see if any problems arise. OK, so what could be better? Well, I guess the zippers could be beefier. A few reviews knocked the bag for the zippers. Honestly, they seem pretty good to me. They are all double-zippers, which is nice. They open and close easily, but I suppose heavier duty ones would be better. Also, the handle on top does make the top zipper support all the weight of the bag when carrying that way. I guess this might stress the zipper over time, but if you use a bit of caution, I don't think it will be an issue. One last thing I wanted to point out is that you can store a little bit off stuff in the side pockets even with the panniers folded up. I was storing my spare tube in there and it fit fine, but you certainly don't have a lot of extra room as the panniers take up most of it. All in all, a very clever design that I think is worthy of 5 stars! I hope you found the review helpful and feel free to ask any questions. Cheers!

Excellent bag for so many occasions!!
First off: Despite the photos, THIS IS NOT the MTX 2.0 bag. I thought it was, which is why I bought it. Although the descriptions don't mention anything about it being the original style, I'm kind of glad that I got this one instead. From what I was reading & seeing in videos on YouTube, this version has 2 zippers on either sides of the pockets, whereas the MTX 2.0 only has the one, so you have to zip and unzip it the entire way. I know it's kind of pedantic, but to me I actually like that small quality-of-life feature. Outside of that and the MTX type, they are practically identical, so I am not going to take off any stars. The bag itself is excellent quality!! Despite it not being waterproof, the main compartment seems like it has a waterproof lining to it. Do not take that as fact though because I haven't tested that aspect of it. Also, the adjustable divider inside is super nice to have, and the pockets on top, the expandable top, and the bungie laces on top are absolutely amazing. The panniers seem to hold a very large amount, and I could even get my laptop and several books inside, so this will be perfect for bike-packing. They also fold up nice and clean into the side pockets, and there's even room left over if you wanted to put some smaller things inside like a wallet, keys, small tools, handcuffs, mice, etc. It also even has a nice shoulder strap so you can carry the bag with you when you leave the bike. (May be a little more cumbersome with the panniers out) My main concern (I haven't used it on any rides yet) is the lack of any kind of Velcro (or similar) fastener for it attach to the sides of the rack. It does, however, have a bungie cord at the bottom of the panniers with a looped end which you can use to fasten to the bottom of the rack where it attaches to the frame, but on my Salsa Journeyer it's way too long and I can't attach it to anything, so I'm going to have to find a solution for this. Gorgeous bag, very well made, and HIGHLY recommended!

Amazing fourth dimensional bag!
I exaggerate only slightly; it does seem that the Topeak MTX Trunk Bag DXP is larger on the inside than it is on the outside. I am using the DXP with the Topeak Explorer Bike Rack attached to my Specialized Sirrus hybrid bike. I've only had the DXP for 2 days, so I can't speak to how it will stand up to long term wear and tear, although it does seem to be very well made. I am in love with this bag! My first outing was to the local farmer's market. Parking near the market is very limited, so getting there by bike works prefectly. I locked up the bike and strolled through the market, picking up a long loaf of French bread, a huge bunch of Swiss chard, arugula and basil. I grabbed a bag of tomatoes and some fresh mozzarella. Returning to the bike, I wan't sure that everything would fit, since I already had a couple of bottles of water, some tools and other items in the bag. Amazingly, everything fit. The bread and the bunch of swiss chard were too tall to close the zippers on the side bags, but everything rode safely and securely. A couple of hours later, I went out to the grocery store and bought a good sized cart full of items. I loaded the DXP: in one side bag went a 5 lb bag of flour sandwiched between 2 bottles of wine and topped with a bag of limes and a wedge of cheese. In the other side bag went a box of dishwashing detergent, a half gallon of milk a 1/4 of a watermellon and a bag of lemons. I filled the top compartment with a dozen eggs topped with a large bag of tortilla chips. All of the zippers closed! The side bags have an expandable pleat running through the center that allows them to grow to fit the contents. The weight distribution is terrific; with most of the weight lower than the top of the rear wheel, the effect on balance isn't noticeable. When I reached home, I was happy that I could just unsnap the DXP from the rack and carry it into the kitchen. No bags required! The final outing of the day was an expedition to the municipal pool for a swim. I carried the towels, bathing suits, sun screen, goggles, shower stuff and a few other odds and ends for me and my girlfriend. Once we were there, I could take the DXP right into the locker room. Very nice! The DXP has a mesh pocket on the rear end for a water bottle, another mesh pocket on the top for small items, a small bungee net on top for things too long to fit in the top compartment and a small strap on the back that I use to clip my Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Tail Light . Inside the cover of the top compartment is a small pocket that I use for a few tools. The side panels are well designed. Folded up, there is enough room for a Kryptonite Evolution Series 4 Standard Bicycle U-Lock with Bracket (4-Inch x 9-Inch) (if you seperate the U from the bar) or some small items. This U lock will also fit in the top compartment. Once you open them, the rigid side covers fold against the rack stays and prevent the nylon bags from hitting the spokes. For extra insurance, there is an adjustable bungee at the end of each side bag that can be snapped onto the bottom of the rack. This is a really great piece of gear!

Convenience Over Quality
I purchased the MTX DXP Trunk Bag and Explorer Rack for commuting to work and for overnight bike trips. Here's my review after a few days of owning them. Topeak currently makes two MTX Line trunk bag/pannier sets - - the EXP and the DXP. I initially purchased the EXP for about $34 less but quickly decided it was too small for my purposes. In a truly amazing display of great customer service, Amazon agreed to take back the EXP that I had already used twice - no questions asked - sent me a prepaid return shipping label, and sent me the larger "DXP" model overnight at no shipping cost. The DXP is a bit larger than the EXP and has an expansion stage for the horizontal compartment, which gives me the extra room I need to carry my lunch "upright." A water bottle/accessory pouch on the back provides easy access to my house key, my cuff clip, and other small items. No doubt about it...for me, the DXP was well worth the extra $34. To take full advantage of either model, you need to purchase one of the rear racks in Topeak's Explorer line. I bought the basic one, which comes in versions for disc brakes or non-disc brakes. Be careful to choose the correct one. The rack was a little difficult to install on my 1996 GT Outpost, which doesn't have Allen screws on the seat tube, but has an adapter that worked very well with my previous rack. I thought the racks would be interchangeable, but instead I had to do some creative engineering to make the new one fit. Not a big problem if you like tinkering with your bike. The quality of the parts that make up the quick-release system seem a little cheap, too, but time will tell how they hold up. Really, the only reason I bought this bag and this rack is for this quick release system. If you do not need to take your bag on and off very often, you can most certainly find a much better-made set for the same or less money. But if you are a daily bike commuter, a bike tourist who makes lots of potty stops, or you just live in a bad neighborhood, this is a great bag to have. The first time you pick it up, you will probably agree that It feels like a piece of junk, especially the very crappy zippers. But the first time you arrive at your destination, slip it right off the rack, and throw it over your shoulder (with the included shoulder strap), you will remember exactly why you bought it. "Convenience Over Quality" is the operative term here.. Some owners of the EXP and DXP have complained about the bag rattling when it's on the rack, and many have come up with homemade fixes. The rattle is definitely there on my set-up, but it doesn't really bother me, as I usually have music playing over a speaker when I ride. If you're into a quiet ride, expect to have to silence this rattle with some type of shim. I have not used this bag in the rain yet, so I cannot comment on its "wet" performance, but you should be aware that it is not marketed as waterproof (or even water resistant, to the best of my knowledge). They do sell a rain cover for it, but I just carry a heavy-duty plastic bag for sudden downpours. I also pack electronics and other water-sensitive items in plastic zip-lock bags before placing them inside. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. I like having a trunk that can quickly convert to a pannier set and one that slides on and off pretty easily. However, I hope someone will be able to repair my zippers the first time I pack just a little too tight and break one.

Best bag for commuters
I have been using this bag daily for over two years. It still looks great though it has faded a little. The bag only shows wear in two areas both my fault. Sometimes I forget about the elastic stays when removing the bag - one is a bit the worse for wear but still working. I have ridden a few times on a bike without fenders and the strap hanging loose getting worn on the tires. Again the strap is still great just worn on the edge a bit. I just stuff the shoulder pad under the bungees on top but sometimes I forget. The main compartment is plenty big for carrying all the stuff I insist on carrying (be prepared and all that). The saddle bags are great for picking up groceries after work or carrying a sweater or rain gear as needed. I have fit several bags of groceries in it using a bit of ingenuity. 2-3 bags is pretty easy using just the saddle bags. My helmet fits into one saddle bag. Sometimes I carry the helmet clipped into the top handle but prefer putting it into the bag. The bag is not waterproof but so far I have not had problems with water penetrating excessively even on rainy rides. I can't always choose my weather but it does not rain here enough to warrant a waterproof bag or the cover for this one. Fenders help a lot in keeping things dry. I have not had any issues with the bag falling off. It can be difficult to engage the groove when both bags are full. The rear light holder is pretty handy but you really need to put a water bottle in the holder to keep it in position. It's nice not to have to remove a tail light from the bike as it just stays on the bag. Complaints: - With both saddle bags deployed it can be difficult to carry. - The carrying strap could have a stickier lining on the shoulder pad.

ToPeak MTX Trunk Bag is BADASS!!! OUTSTANDING
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I love this bag. I LOVE this company! I have had it over 2 yrs and it has held up PERFECTLY in South Fla heat and sun. I love the expanding side pouches. The best part about Topeak MTX Trunk bag is that its modular. The rack is sold separately but Topeak has many other options for your bike including baskets, pet carriers, etc. They just slide right in so you can exchange many options without buying a new rack. Brilliant!! The MTX Trunk bag can be removed in secs with their "QUICK-TRACK" System and you can install a variety of other carriers with just a slide and snap. Customer Service is A++++. You cannot get better equipment. They have rain/snow covers. They have it all. The rack is also quick release so you can use these bags and rack on any bike with seat post, just slide the quick release open and switch it. I save my reviews until I have had at least a year or two of usage and my Topeak MTX Trunk bag is still perfect! 🤟👍

Well designed, strong and useful bag
When I bought my new bike recently I had one of the smaller ToPeak 6L MTX bags fitted along with an MTX track carrier. I love that bag and it's great for short to medium rides. However, I intend on going for longer rides and also potentially riding to work meetups where I will need to be able to carry more stuff and a change of clothes (I'm sure my colleagues don't want me sitting there in a pool of sweat!) :). I checked around and discovered ToPeak did a series of larger bags, and after reading so many positive reviews on Amazon I decided on this one. I am certainly not disappointed. This is a superb bag! It's 20L compared to my other, which is 6L, so overall there's a lot more room. The top of the bag has an extender zip which allows the top to expand upwards to allow for any larger more awkward items. The side packs can be used in their closed position for smaller items such as a portable hard drive, small notebook, phone etc, or they can be unzipped and fully opened out to work as panniers. Once opened up, the outer sides are fabric (albeit strong weave nylon), and would be great for clothing and lighter items, perhaps even a pair of shoes, but I certainly wouldn't risk putting anything too valuable in them, like a laptop, or heavy like books - I'm not sure they would really hold up to that kind of weight and wouldn't provide enough protection for a laptop or tablet due to the potential for knocking against the side bars of the carrier, not to mention the shock forces of hitting potholes and bumps in the road. When carrying my laptop I would always use a backpack anyway. I also like the little touches with this bag that set it apart, such as the carrying handle on top, and the extra water bottle holder on the back. As with all the MTX bags, this one is a breeze to fit to the MTX track on the carrier, and removes in seconds. Loads of room, very secure, no fear of it falling off during a ride. Excellent product overall.

Fantastic bag. Worth the price.
I bought this about a year ago. I buy something on Amazon probably every other day, and this is my favorite purchase that I've made. First, the quick tracks system with the explorer rack is far superior to anything with velcro or clips or strings. It takes me half the time to get my bag on the bike as everyone else when I leave the grocery store, and I bike with a lot more piece of mind because I know it isn't going anywhere once it's on. Second, the bag. The main compartment is huge. At all times I have a headlight, a set of headphones, a set of swimming goggles, a spare tube, and a tire changing tool, and I usually also have some grocery items or lunch if I'm on my way to work. Still, I'm able to put my u-lock in there when I'm rolling. And that's without expanding it, which I rarely have to do. The side panniers are also enormous. If I"m going to work, I can fit my Macbook Pro and a bunch of files on one side, and a change of clothes/shoes on the other. When I go to the store, I can put a six pack and a half-gallon of milk in one of them. If I put the bike on the front of the bus I can put my bike helmet in one of the panniers when I sit down. - Small gripes: the cupholder is nice, but only works with small items (can of soda/beer) or bottles that narrow toward the top. If it expands toward the top, like a Tervis tumbler, it's not well suited. - The shoulder strap hooks are plastic, though I've used them for about a year without them breaking. Also, when using the strap, the bag is very unwieldy, especially if you have things in both panniers. Some people have complained that the rain guard is extra. I thought that would be a concern, but unless you're riding for 5+ miles through a monsoon, it's really not a problem. I live in DC and it rains every evening around 5:30 or 6:00 in the summer. I have no problem riding with my Macbook in a bag through a constant shower or even a brief downpour. The materials are very thick/sturdy, so I'd call it "rain resistant" without the cover. Also, because they're sturdy, I've never had a problem with a zipper breaking, a loose thread, or broken plastic. Even at $100, this thing is worth every penny.

Has been a game-changer for my cycling trips
As an enthusiastic cyclist who often commutes and occasionally indulges in longer journeys, storage is a key concern. The Topeak MTX DXP Trunk Bag has not only met but surpassed my expectations. Here's a rundown of my experience: Pros: Robust Design: Made with high-quality materials, the bag has withstood various weather conditions, from sunny days to unexpected rain showers, keeping my belongings safe and dry. Spacious Compartments: The bag is thoughtfully designed with multiple compartments, allowing me to organize my items efficiently. The expandable panniers are particularly useful for those days when I have a little extra to carry. Quick-Release System: Mounting and unmounting the bag from my bike is a breeze, thanks to the MTX QuickTrack system. It's both secure when in use and easy to detach when needed. Reflective Features: Safety on the road is paramount, and the reflective strips on the bag ensure visibility during low-light conditions or nighttime rides. Sturdy Zippers: The zippers are smooth and durable, ensuring easy access to my items without any snagging issues. Cons: Weight: While the bag offers ample storage, when fully loaded, it does add a noticeable weight to the bike. However, given its storage capacity and durability, this is a minor trade-off. In summary, the Topeak MTX DXP Trunk Bag has been a game-changer for my cycling trips. It seamlessly combines functionality with safety features, ensuring that my rides are both convenient and secure. For cyclists in need of reliable storage solutions, I can't recommend this bag enough!

Quality product
This is a well made pannier which I bought to go with my Topeak Super Tourist DX rear rack. I’ve only had it for one day but it slides and clips onto the rack perfectly. The drop down side bags look solid enough and will be very handy. Very happy.
