Review: Fresh produce lasts so much longer in these bags, but it helps to know how to store foods. - I have been using Debbie Meyer Greenbags for 15-20 years and some of the bags I still have are almost that old and still work. Of course, all fresh produce has an end date no matter how you store them, but these bags definitely reduce the spoilage and most last more than twice the time they would without these bags. Although these bags do greatly increase the storage time for fresh produce, it does help to know how to store the various types of produce. First of all, moisture is a detrimental for all types of storage whether fresh or frozen. Too much air in a package will also cause produce to spoil more quickly. In addition, some fresh produce lasts longer when stored in the refrigerator and others do better left on the countertop. Although these bags can magically make fresh produce last longer, this magic is somewhat dependent on your knowledge of how to store various type of fresh produce. For example, tomatoes and cucumbers are best stored at room temperature. When kept in the refrigerator, they quickly become mushy and tasteless. Summer squash, such as zucchini and yellow squash is best kept in the refrigerator as are cool weather veggie greens such as spinach, kale, collards, cauliflower, broccoli, etc. Herbs, such as basil, will quickly wilt in the refrigerator, whereas dill will last longer when kept at a cooler temperature. In all cases, the produce and herbs should be as dry as possible before putting them into the bags, and then as much air as possible should be removed from the bags before using a twist tie to close them. I grow most of our veggies indoors and currently have zucchini and yellow squash in these bags that I harvested over 3 weeks ago that are still as fresh as the day I harvested them. My tomatoes are good for at least 3 weeks after I harvest them, but they are left on the counter. After the bags are empty, I half fill them with water, hold the top closed to slish the water in them, dump the water, and dry them as much as possible with a kitchen towel. Then, I sit them upright and open to dry completely. Once they are completely dry, I fold them and put them away for the next use. Although these bags will incredibly decrease the spoilage of fresh produce, they cannot be expected to compensate for lack of knowledge about the food storage and how to store different types of fresh food. Success in food storage does depend somewhat on your knowledge of storing fresh produce of different types. I, personally, will continue to use these bags and bought a new set only because I discovered some of the bags I have had holes in them from stems of the veggies stored. The bags even keep mushrooms fresh, which I used to immediately take out of their plastic containers and put in a paper bag to preserve them. And the bags last too. After using one, I rinse it out and wash it with my regular dish detergent, let it dry, and it is ready to go again. There are some things that you buy that you say are so very worth it, and these bags are one of those things.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: How do people know they are made in China if the bag says they are "Proudly made in the USA?"  Anyone know for sure where these are made??**
A: The ones that I just received from Amazon say on both the front and back "Made In the USA".  The item number is DM301124, copyright 2019.  I'm looking forward to testing them out. I'm going to mark off each time that I used them to keep track of the 10 uses per bag.

**Q: Anyone recently order these that can tell me if these are still the Chinese knockoffs people were complaining about in 2012?**
A: The bags from Sunnyside Up are definitely not Chinese knock-offs.  Purchased from a reputable major retailer in the US.

**Q: What does it mean by saying 'Able to be re-used up to 10 times'? Does it mean it dosen't work after using 10 times?**
A: Read only this review!!!, some are wasting our time w nonsensical reviews. Yes they can be used many times. I used four XL bags for 6-7 years. I used one for bananas and hardly never needed to wash it. Wipe condensation off everyday (on all bags) with paper towel, (I leave 3-4 folded together under bananas bag and just reuse ptowels for months to wipe condensation off, only takes a min. Other bags for different produce just very lightly washed them, shake off water, stand upside down to dry. The trick is to NOT forget about the food and letting it decompose but it's still washable. Sometimes I let them soak if I let them get nasty.  Most of u are wasteful, have too much money and don't take care of things. So go ahead and just buy more bags and keep destroying the planet. Who cares? Maybe yr children? I'm sorry, but I think we can all do better. Please be a conscious consumer and be nice to each other. Peace

**Q: How do I close the bags**
A: Keep the bags loose and open, or at least not completely sealed. I also put in sheets of paper towels inside the bags to absorb the excess moisture from the veggies. I've had spinach and cilantro last me a couple of weeks if I keep it completely dry by: 1) washing it 2) spinning it as dry as possible, 3) putting a couple of sheets of paper towels on the bottom of the green bags and keeping the opening loose.
