UPDATE: After 2.5 months I learned if I use really cold water the cubes will be bigger than if I use room temperature water. I freeze water in a 16 ounce sour cream container to give me a good size ice cube then I put that in the ice maker reservoir and fill with tap water. Original Review Purchased this out of necessity due to my freezer breaking down. We didn't want to have to run to the store for ice every other day so we bought this ice maker. Three friends commented that these are the 'good' cubes. Some things to know... 1) The instructions say not to tilt the machine beyond 45 degrees and this includes transportation. No fault of the Amazon delivery person but the box was in three different position when he was bringing it to the door. Who knows what position these ice makers are stored?! The box isn't labeled 'this side up.' The instruction say leave the machine sitting in the proper position for 2 hours but knowing refrigeration units it should be left upright longer. I left ours overnight before using. 2) The first batch of ice isn't that great with fewer cubes and some only being partial cubes. See pic. After that they're all great. 3) If transferring to a freezer use a plastic container for storage. Stainless steel freezes the cubes together. Also, after a few minutes of freezer time break up the cubes with the scoop because when transferred, the cubes will be dripping water which will freeze the cubes together. Use a towel under the tray when transferring or water will get on your floor. Once they're broken up and frozen then all is good. 4) There's very little difference between large cubes and small cubes. One pic shows a batch of each side by side. 5) Contrary to others reviews the ice makers isn't hard to drain. The video shows how to drain the machine and the entire action of getting the cubes from the frozen fingers into the tray. 6) One pic shows the sensors that determine when the ice tray is full. I pull the ice forward to clear the sensor path. This gets another 27 cubes into the tray when the entire tray is full and not just the back of the tray. 7) When the entire tray is full it holds 108 ice cubes (12 batches of 9 cubes) yielding 626 grams or 1lb 6 1/8 ounces of ice in 102 minutes. 8) It takes approximately 8.5 minutes per batch of ice (9 cubes). I did the math and that would be about 19.5 lbs of ice in 24 hours of continuous ice making and not stopping to fill the water reservoir or transferring ice out of the tray. I think the claim of 26 lbs in 24 hours is a little aggressive although the batch time does vary. 9) The reservoir holds approximately 76 ozs. of water which yields about 2-5/8 baskets of ice weighing about 3 lbs. 12 ozs. It takes about 4 hours before the reservoir is empty of water. All in all... I love this ice maker and highly recommend it. If you found this review helpful, please click the ‘helpful’ button below. We live in an older home in Arizona and no water line to the fridge. Ice is a must. It takes a while to get a full bag if we're completely out of ice but once the inside has come to the right temp it takes just a few hours to have a bag of ice that'll last us 3-5 days in the summer. My sister leaves hers on continously because they go through so much ice in her family. My granddaughter loved ours so much she asked for one for Christmas. And the ice cubes are the perfect size. *Don't expect speed until it cools down inside. It averages about 6-7 minutes for the first 9 cubes to drop. *you need to let the old standing water out if you don't run it daily or it'll start to get mildew. It's easy to clean because of the plug on the bottom. I put it on the counter by the sink, open the drain so any excess water flows out, and use the spray nozzle on my faucet to give it a good rinse. On rare occasions I've seen the start of mold but that's our fault for letting old water sit in it. *The ice bucket is small. Common sense tells you that if it was much bigger the ice on the bottom would be completely melted before the top was made. *when you put a bucket of ice into a bag for your freezer it's going to be drippy. DUH! The first cubes on the bottom have started to melt once they are dumped. Drain some of it and put it in the freezer bag. When you take the bag out give it a few taps on the counter to break them up and pour in the next bucket full. It makes your ice cubes harder because they've been double frozen. ***You should buy the ice maker. You won't regret it.

I have one of these at home, but really needed one for our business. The red one was cheaper and since color did not matter to me I was fine with it. But word to the wise, the red is smaller, much smaller, the basket is a lot smaller so you will have to empty it more. But with that said, it works just as good as it's sibling. Please remember, it will take about 30 minutes to get a good size cube so don't worry about the few times it makes ice. It does make ice pretty quickly, which is nice. You barely hear it run the only time you remember it's working is when the ice drops. This is great for anyone that needs some ice and doesn't have an icemaker on their fridge.

Works exactly as advertised. The reason we went with this particular model is that it will actually keep the ice in the unit, others you had to remove the ice and put into your freezer. We were having issues with our freezer and although we have a secondary freezer, we did not want to waste space with ice trays. The first thing to know is that when you receive the unit you need to find a spot that level for it to sit. Then wait 2 hours before plugging in. The cycle takes the exact time the manufacturer says. The ice is a little on the wet side, so if you transfer it to a freezer just be aware that you will need to break the ice apart a little. This might be because right now our weather is in the high 90's approaching 100 so as it gets cooler, this may not be an issue. I will update when the weather breaks on this issue. The manufacturer says that the ice will keep up to 18 hours depending on ambient temperature -- so far it has been keeping fine, our temp in the house is running about 84 so I think it does well. My only complaint is that I wish it would hold a little more ice but it automatically generates more ice as you use it so this is a pretty minor issue. I would recommend to anyone looking for a secondary ice source or needs a portable ice maker. Great product.

I keep it on the counter beside my refrigerator. I pull it out and sideways when I use it so it can breathe. I know it's wet ice so I put each batch in a large freezer bag and lay it flat in the freezer. When the next batch is done I take the bag out of the freezer and hit the bag against the doorway of my pantry to break up the ice, then I poor it in my ice bend that's leftover over from my broken built-in ice maker. If you just dump the wet ice into the ice bend it all freezes together and it's just a mess. This way I can still get the ice from the refrigerator door and have crushed ice if I want it. I like this ice better because it's smaller and softer. I continue the process until my ice bend is full. I drain any remaining water, dry out the machine and leave the lid open a few hour so it will dry out even more...to prevent mildew and stale tasting ice. There are three people in the household plus visitors and I make ice once every three weeks. I've been using it for six months with no problems. It's fast, quite, efficient and not bad to look at. I love it and wouldn't even go back to my original factory ice maker. I use the filtered water from my refrigerator and I've never had a problem with the taste or the machine.

We absolutely love this ice maker. Besides making ice whenever you want, you can take it with you. It's great for a camper. I'm writing this review a full year after the purchase, and am now adding some comments since someone sent me a question about the machine. Yes, it does come with a scoop. Plus there is a nice plastic basket that catches the ice cubes. It's quick and efficient. You fill it with the water--you don't need a water source. I've been using bottled water because our tap water is from the well and has some calcium in it that could possibly accumulate on the mechanism and cause it not to work. I saw that a couple other people had complained that their unit quit working. I'm wondering if maybe they also have calcium in their water. Calcium builds up in faucets and pipes and is what caused the ice maker in our refrigerator to stop working. Rather than pay over $300 to fix the refrigerator's ice maker, we bought this one. We liked that we would be able to make it double for our camper as well as our house. This machine makes ice fairly quickly. NOBODY paid me to say these things. I bought it full price after researching several. Also, you can purchase an extended warranty on it if you want. We bought the extended warranty, but it doesn't look like we needed to. Over a year later, I'm very happy with this purchase. Plus the cool thing is if you Amazon Prime, the shipping's free.

The ice maker worked great for all of 6 months. Unfortunately, I did not purchase the insurance which in hindsight was stupid. The ice maker kept giving me messages saying it was either full of ice (when empty) or I needed to add more water (when filled with water). I tried to contact Igloo who said they didn't manufacture the ice maker-- Curtis did. I was then connected to an outsourced phone company in India that worked for Curtis. After arguing for more than an hour, the people told me I needed to pay $7 for the 1 year warranty and that could be either paid by giving them my credit card or money order- both very sketchy options. This was the first thing that annoyed me. Never in my life have I had to pay for a 1 year warranty included on a product. Furthermore, I had to pay for the ice maker to be shipped to Michigan in hopes of getting it fixed. After talking to several supervisors, I was insured that this was the only way to get it fixed; fine. I got my money order and headed to UPS. Upon getting to UPS, I was told it would cost around $65 just to ship it then with the $7 for warranty totaling around $72 to fix my $100 ice maker. At that point I said forget about it and either going to try to get Curtis for shipping or just buy a different machine not made by igloo nor Curtis and definitely buy insurance with it. The product was great while it lasted but, dealing with their customer support it made me hate the product.

The setup process was simple and straightforward, and I was able to start making ice in no time. I bought this one because a friend had one similar, branded differently, but I thought it was the same one. It is! Let it sit if it’s been turned over moved, around in shipping etc and fire it up. Started making cubes as quickly as I expected. Remember....it’s not a freezer so remove the cubes as soon as the tray is getting full or sooner if you want them to keep. Don’t worry if you don’t though, they will just keep recycling until you use them. I’m very happy with this maker! Edit….if you’re having a hard time getting ice quickly try this little tip. Add some ice to the water when you turn it on for the day. Ice starts making sooner and the cubes are larger! (Added this two years after purchase)

We use it for home use. But it stops making ice on a regular basses for no reason it has water but say it needs water. We only use reverse osmosis water in it. Have to empty it and start over about once a week. I will never buy Frigidaire again.
