excellent machinist indicator holder
I use several different indicator holders between work and home. At home I had what people on youtube were calling the "Noga Killer". Mainly because I wanted to see just how good something with a tag line like that could possibly be. Well, let me tell you, the Noga kills it. No if's or buts.I had mine for cheaper version for two years and it needed to be rebuilt. I updated it to use hardened ball bearings for contact points to try to keep it manageable. It helped greatly but not by a long shot can it compete with the real Noga.I had to do yet another rebuild week ago and decided that I've had enough of a bad time and ordered the real thing like I use at work. For my job I don't care about spending a few extra dollars as even one issue avoided is going to save far more. To top it off, the Noga last years and works like new. The half or now 3/4 price versions last a frustrating couple of years with minimal use.Noga:Steel constructionWears far bettertighter tolerancesThe ball joints are actually round and hard material.Fast engage/disengageExcellent grip on the ball jointssuper easy to dial inThe competitions3/4 of the price and lasts 1/100th of the time. You won't pass this onto your son if you bought it new when he was 35 and had kids of his own.You WILL be replacing it in a few yearsyou will be fixing it many timesyou will be frustrated playing the set it to zero game and never winningYou will destroy a job costing 10 times the more than that of the holder because you didn't pay exacting attention to its instability curve and got the wrong readingYou will end up spending hours trying to make it better and eventually realize you can't make a silk purse out of a sows earDo yourself a favor and avoid the cheaper knockoffs. You'll save money in the long run and far more, you will save time and frustration. You may need a better indicator holder, but if you need one better than this, you are into specialized extreme accuracy work. This has no issues going less than a 1/10th (i.e. 1/10th of a thou) and holding it.Excellent made in Israel product.

Solid
Excellent mag base, and without the annoying , wiggly fine adjustment by the indicator . This one has the fine adjustment down at the bottom, which doesn't have any wiggle or play in it or get in the way like the other type. It locks nice and solid and sticks well. Very high quality.

Superior!
Wow! What a difference between the Cheepo holder I had that constantly leaked oil compared to this! Beautiful manufacturing and design. Extremely flexible but solid when tightened. Should have gotten a long time ago.Two comments to Nago: Why is there a very slight teeter when placed on my granite face plate? If the bottom is ground it should be close to perfectly flat.My indicator mount is exactly 0.375 inch (3/8”). Why do I have to almost use pliers to tighten the holder knob to just barely clamp the indicator?

Works great!
I used this NOGA MG10533 Heavy Duty Holder with a Fowler 52-520-110-0 dial indicator and it worked very well to check endplay during my transmission rebuild.

Noga top quality and excellent engineering design.
The best out there. I never realized how easy to adjust and stably hold indicators when locked down as compared to other instrument holders. Magnet very strong keeping arm in place. So much easier to position dial indicator as compared to 'bar' type arms that I also have. I also got the smaller Noga NF61003 holder to compliment this medium sized arm.

Wonderful tool. Every machinist needs a couple of these.
I could not do my job without my Noga. This thing is reliable and has just the right amount of magnetic force to be a versatile tool that you can pick up and move around without messing with the On/Off magnetic switch, but always holds strong and doesn't move once you've placed it in a new spot where you need it. If you know a machinist, this is a perfect gift for them, because even if they already have a couple, you can always appreciate more of them.

Had to wrestle it into submission and now it's my bitch
I bought this real deal over the imported copy, and I expected better. 175 pounds– on what planet?! It had sharp edges, unbroken corners, and the clamp thumbwheel had surface rust on the knurled portion. The clamp was incapable of clamping to a shoulder screw that was .371" That was only .004" undersize, Ridiculous! I had to drag a hacksaw blade through the crack backwards to widen the gap by the amount of the set of the teeth to make it work for me. Fortunately (or unfortunately), the clamp metal was soft as butter. Now, when I clamp the 3/8" shoulder screw, I really have to crank on the REALLY SHARP 4mm thumbscrew with my soft girly hands. Then, when I want to switch to the dovetail, I need to pry it apart a little with a screwdriver. The indicator clamp is just crap, it just does a dovetail on the end and a 3/8" rod through the side. Noga makes a more versatile clamp, but for sixty some dollars with shipping, I'll just deal with this while cursing under my breath.Edit: I made a new 3/8" rod for my dial indicator from a dowel pin. It was extremely hard and I had to normalize it. It was extremely cold and bright outside so it might have been more of a tempering, but now it was just soft enough to face, drill, and tap (for a long 10-32 setscrew to fit my B&S indicator with integral "thumbnut"). This one is .3745" and doesn't require cranking so hard on the clamp, and the dovetail also fits without prying. No more cursing– well, about the clamp anyway. So basically, after screwing with it for a couple of hours, I like it very much.
