Tchaikovsky: The Nutcracker [The Royal Opera House] [Opus Arte: OA1290D]

First the Royal Ballet production and dancing by the artists was superb, let down only by the extremely bad recording of the dvd, the picture goes fuzzy in parts, and the dvd skips in parts causing the dancers to jump about when they shouldn’t be (ie missing data on disk.) This is very frustrating and seems as if it is a pirate copy, I tried the disc on two different DVD players with the same results, I then ordered another copy of the dvd from amazon, and got exactly the very same results in the same places. I also checked the Royal ballet web site and opus arte web site and there are no copies of this dvd mentioned or for sale on either of these web sites. So were have they come from. An extremely disappointed bunny.

It seems I got lucky and received a perfect disc. Perhaps it is just the Blu-ray edition that is faulty? Every part of the performance was fantastic. Nuñez was perfect as the sugarplum fairy. Definitely a favourite and the Royal Ballet deserve all the praise.

I love this production and have seen many casts, but this is my favourite. I love the HD quality and the camera angles were different in the first act than I have seen before, and made it all the more interesting. Highly recommend.
