Not for me - Addiction is a disease, not a choice.
As a heathen who has been clean and sober for 4+ years, and studies addiction from the frame of a medical professional, parts of this book did not sit well with me.It states (very early on) that addiction as a choice. Which goes against what I've learned in science.Yes I agree there are some choices that impact addiction but there is scientific evidence that proves that addiction precursors exist before any drug is introduced into the system. Also, there is also a LOT of shaming language. There was a great opportunity for empowerment and I feel that the book fell short on that.Parts I did like: I did enjoy the expiation of the Wyrd, the struggles between the Uruz and Ansuz nature, and the easy to follow layout of the steps. I think there are definitely some points that I can find helpful, but I basically had to ignore a large portion of what was written. The choice is to stop fighting after you've come to understand you have an addiction... But just HAVING the addition, in my opinion, is not.I also came at this book understanding that it was published by Folkish Heathens (I am NOT folkish, I am inclusive) so my opinion is likely more critical than one that may be left by a Folkish Heathen.

A comprehensive recovery program For Heathens, by Heathens.
Nothing short of brilliant new way to look at recovery from a heathen perspective. As I put it into action I hope to find others to work with it. These are powerfully written steps that eliminate the pitfalls of traditional 12 step work as it pertains to our theology. The book is well laid out with descriptions of the steps, giving examples from our lore, personal experience, and a good dose of psychological input. It goes further with a step working guide and how the steps can be applied to depression and PTSD as well, a basic primer on runes, and an outline of a meeting format to use to start a local group. I hope to see this movement grow and flourish!

great alternative
Awesome book. Great for people who have a hard time with the original 12 step program, the idea of surrendering or being powerless or heathens in general. I have shared this book with many die hard Christians who have also benefited from it. Even if you don't believe the mythology the program is very effective.

Great resource for a pagan/heathen in recovery.
I am really enjoying this book. As a polytheist who is in recovery, it is difficult to find resources. This fills a need for the pagan/heathen that wants to heal but doesn't feel comfortable at faith based recovery groups.
