Tiny but Mighty - Exceptional Paints in a Compact Set!
We love this set of paints from Winsor and Newton! They are beautifully made and truly can fit in your pocket or tiny backpack when traveling. All you need to add is your canvas, a few brushes and some water. Each pan is individually wrapped and the names of each color is written on the outside of each pan. It also includes a brush and 2 palettes that can be removed from the box. The 12 colors included in this set are Cadmium Yellow Pale Hue, Cadmium Yellow Hue, Cadmium Red Pale Hue, Alizarin Crimson Hue, Ultramarine, Cobalt Blue Hue, Viridian Hue, Sap Green, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Chinese White. Pros 1. Compact and highly portable. 2.. Highly pigmented colors with a wide range of colors. 3. Paint color names are written on the outside of the pans, for easy refilling. Cons 1. Winsor and Newton paints are no longer manufactured in England, they are now made in China. 2. No true red, such as Cadimum Red. You will need to buy one for each of your kids! As a classroom teacher, and mother of school aged children, I highly recommend this set for your budding artist to take along when travelling and for outdoor use. Grade A+

I got the watercolor pocket plus set, which includes 12 mini paints, with each set of 4 being removable via a plastic tray that hooks into the case. While this was sorta annoying to set up at first (have to unwrap and balance in 12 little thingies) and the case for me at least doesn't stay open well without tape (immediately knocked out all the paints after unwrapping and setting them all trying to use a rubber band to keep it open - this was a bad idea, hah), I LOVE this little set and it is perfect for me. The quality of paints is excellent, the two trays are small and convenient, perfect for my limited space, and I love the little paint brush it came with. The case & trays snap back into place oh so nicely, so the only thing that moves at all is the paint trays within their little homes. It is very convenient and will be oh-so-portable portable once I have painted a few more "masterpieces" and the paints are glued into their pans. If I find myself wanting a different or other pocket set I will certainly buy within this line. In addition any actual paint pans and probably brushes are going to be the cotman line. For the price it is really so nice. I am a hobbyist getting back to my previous passions and have worked with garbage quality paints to the highest end options and as I work my way back up from a beginner, I feel for watercolors these will likely meet my needs indefinitely.

Great for sketching on the go or in the studio!
Everything about this kit was exactly what I needed. The variety of colors and the high quality pigmented paints really gives you the best range of color mixing. I purchased a brush pen with a water reservoir for this palette and it is my go-to for watercolor sketching. Small and portable, with plenty of palette space for mixing color, the colors dry vivid and last a long time. I've recommended this to lots of my peers in art school and they've gotten them for themselves and say the same things. The only downside to the palette is if you mix a ton of paint on the palette, you cannot just close the lid. You've got to wait for the paint in the mixing wells to dry, or simply wipe it out with a paper towel. The navy blue rubber cover is a bit odd as you have to slide it in place, not snap it in. I usually just leave it off all together and find it closes just fine without it. Great little kit to toss in a bag and head outside for some plein aire painting or to have on a desk in the studio as it hardly takes up any space!

Ok For Student Grade
While the colors are very nice, I was disappointed at the similarity in several of them. The set is made up with several hues, common in student grade paint, but hues dont mix very well and turn muddy. Not happy at all with the sticky binder which keeps the paint from fully drying out inviting mold and mildew. Because its a student grade, the lack of color saturation causes you to use more pigment which uses the paint up much faster. All in all a nice set to try but I wouldnt purchase it again.

Big Things come in Small Packages!! And how convenient it is!
I bought this Winsor & Newton Cotman Pocket Plus watercolor set for my trip to thailand for some plein air plainting. It can promptly and on time, each pan was individually wrapped, and the name of the color written on the side of each pan, for when refilling or replacing the pans when the color runs out. The set comes with two cadmium yellows one in a pale hue, two reds on cadmium pale hue one alizarin, two blues one ultramarine one cobalt, two greens one viridian one sap, three earth tones in yellow ochre, burnt sienna and burnt umber, and lastly a chinese white. There isn't a really true red in this set (wouldve preferred a cadmium red over the pale hue), but if you mix the red pale hue with the alizarin you get a nice red. It also comes with a small watercolor brush for sketching and painting. It isn't something I would only use, I tend to bring a few of my favorite brushes, with sponges and small water-containers in their own little bag, but if need be i can just carry this around and be set. The pans are four per little case and there are three cases in the set. They can be pulled out easily and rearranged if needed. While doing some color swatches of the 12 half pans, this quality is about equal to my Sakura Koi Field Sketch Set with 24 wells. I am satisfied with the pigmentation, the colors come out bright, and have a smooth gradient with no chalky finish, as to be expected with these types of paints. I opted for this set for its portability and compact size, half the size of my Sakura Koi Set (half the colors but they have the 12 main ones that cover spectrum quite well). I've included a photo of the swatches as well as some smaller swatches of mixing the complementary colors. As well as a size comparison between the two sets. The set comes with two palettes that can be taken out, the first one can connect to the bottom, the other can remain in the lid, but if you requite more mixing room it is removable, the only issue is it is a little difficult to take out at first, but I am sure with some love over time it will be easier. This brings me to one of the few issues I have with this palette, it does not lay flat as depicted on the box, it tends to stay up which makes the palette fall over if left alone, This is not a big issue for me, seeing with time Im sure the plastic will wear down or if i take a blade to it and create a grove for it to lay flat. Over all this set is exactly what I was looking for, compact size, good amount of mixing wells/space and pigmentation. The only con I have about this set is that the pans although will not fall out, do slide and tip slightly do to the space between each. I am sure sticking a tiny bit of sponge between them or a dot of hot glue under the pans would be a simple fix. **Note** The Ruler depicted is in CM **

Awesome!
Wow! I purchased the cheaper mini set to take along with me on a trip out of state. I love to paint as much as I can, but I didn't want to lug around a big pallet and a bunch of tubes. It came with 12 half pans, I believe, and i was a little skeptical when first opening it. But after using it for a little test painting, I'm in love! Colors are very vibrant and easy to mix. Very good quality. I had no problem opening and closing my pallet and some others have. The pans do slide around a little in the pallet, but it doesnt get in my way at all while painting. It comes with two detachable mixing trays in the lid, which are wonderful. The only con was there was no black and the two shades of blue are pretty much identical. But even that didn't bother me at all! I took out the 'lighter' blue shade and replaced it with some black I already had. And now I have a spare for when I use up my blue. I'll be buying a larger set of them for at home use soon!

Very good box! I purchased this for box only
Very good box ! I purchased this for box only. But Quality of colors are no better than "camel artist 18 half pan set" which is being sold for Rs200/- only. It is only our indian hipocrasy to buy WN cotman color tubes with high price when indian camel artist water colors are available for 1/10th price.

Rich, compact, and beginner-friendly
I'm not really well-versed with watercolour since I tend to use dry mediums for my work, but I found that this is a great way to start! The pigments are rich, and it's also surprisingly easy to work with. I love the fact that it's easy to carry, has a little brush inside, and a little pallette that you can detach.
