Surf Guitar

This is a quality surf guitar book. The tab transcription is very clear and easy to understand. There's a good number of classic surf songs to choose from here. There's also a few songs included that aren't surf songs per se, but they are of the same era, and they fit in with the overall tone. You won't need to change your amp settings (reverb to max) to play those songs. While I wouldn't classify this as an "easy" guitar book, it's not at all difficult. Players of all skill levels will appreciate and enjoy "Surf Guitar." I also want to point out what others have said about this NOT being a Hal Leonard book. It's by a company called "Creative Concepts Publishing Corp." It doesn't matter, but this is not a Hal Leonard book. If you're an old school surf guitar master, or someone just coming to appreciate the wonderful mellow sounds of surf, you'll enjoy this book.

Not the most accurate tabs, but in terms of songs and quality its overall good. A bunch of rare surf songs transcribed decently enough, and for that alone this book is worth it for any 60s surf music fan.

Just started working through "Mr. Moto". The notation, on that song at least, is noticeably inaccurate. The transcriber has 4.5 beats in the second measure (the time signature is 4/4, obviously) and the tab does not agree with the notes of the sheet music in at least the 3rd and 19th measures. These are the errors I have found so far....My whole purpose in getting a hardcopy collection of these tunes is that I expected that they would have been vetted and proofread more carefully than simply finding an enthusiast's transcription on the web for free. So what's the point of getting this hardcopy edition when it has errors like this?

I have many surf books, but this is one of the best. It has many rare songs such as Mr. Moto, Harlem Nocturne. There are some non-surf music, I presume they are there as fillers, mostly by Ricky Nelson such as Lonesome Town, Poor Little Fool but fun songs anyway. As far as I could tell transcriptions are true to original. So if you like Surf Music this is a great collection. If not, you might still try them if you like guitar instrumentals. Bye the way, this book is not published by Hal Leonard but by Creative Concepts Publishing and it may be out of print.

Great selection of songs. Tablature is written very well. Easy to read, and fun to play!

Useful, but not entirely accurate. The inaccuracies are easy to spot and correct. For example, the tab for "Wipeout" is half a step too low, move down one fret and play the song in C instead of B (and do the same for the chords). Everything else is the same. If you can play the Safaris' version, then take that and play the same thing on the E A and D strings in the first position and you can play it like the Ventures. Mr Moto is in the right key, but you'll notice a couple of notes are slightly off, but again, just by half step.Anyway, there's a lot of fun here, and al ot of filler, but a useful book if you get a good deal on it.

A magnificent book with the surf tunes transcribed from the original records. With this book a guitar and plenty of reverb you can sound like the original bands. A must for fanatics of the surf sound, worth double it's price

Hier findet der geneigte Musiker eine gute Auswahl gängiger Surf-Titel zum nachspielen.Lediglich zwei Punkte sind nicht so schön:1) Das Layout wirkt zusammengewürfelt2) Klebebindung. Eine moderne Unart, daß Noten mit Klebebindung versehen sind ... da juckt es einen schon manchmal in den Fingern, die Seiten rauszureissen und nebeneinander zu legen, wenn zum Verrecken nicht die Seiten ordentlich aufgeklappt beim Spielen liegen bleiben.Für das Fehlen einer CD mit Backingtracks oder aber zumindest eines Links zum runterladen derselben will ich mal ein Auge zudrücken, auf Youtube habe ich bis jetzt für jedes Stück einen Backingtrack finden können.

Not worth the money, most of the songs have hardly any guitar in them, they way they are tabbed out is strange, and the few good songs included are easily found elsewhere online for free. Don’t buy.
