Useful Introduction
As Isabel travels to the Egyptian past to investigate about a mysterious pharaoh Ani, she uncovers important information on the pyramids of Giza, the purpose for their construction, the people who helped build them, competition between gang workers, the possible technology used to construct them, and the building of the first step pyramids. As usual, there is additional information about the topic in separate boxes and in the back of the book, there is the table of contents, the index, the glossary, and the Internet sources. Readers must remember that these short texts are meant to spark some interest in the topic addressed, and therefore, only serve as a complement to other textbooks. As such, this adventure fulfills its purpose. I highly recommend it.

For Too young an audience
It was too fictionalized for the person I was going to give it to. Would be OK for elementary school child, though maybe oversimplified even there.

Not As Detailed as Others in The Series
Reason for Reading: I've enjoyed other books in this series. An introductory book on the history and building of the Great Pyramids of Giza. A story approach is taken as Isabel travels back in time and gets first hand information from on-the-spot witnesses. She travels back in time to the building of each of the three pyramids and we learn the history of each while learning how the building progressed from the step pyramid to the smooth-sided pyramid. I did find it a bit unbelievable as Isabel popped up in her jeans and jacket and "interviewed" the Ancient Egyptians without them batting an eyelash at this strange modern woman. However, the Isabel Soto books are fun. Bringing a positive role model and career choice (minus the time travel :-) along with basic information. While these books are usually deservedly recommended for a wide age range, this particular one is too general to be of much use beyond the Grade 3/4 level. This book is more of a starting point to see if the subject matter is of interest.

A great book!
This was a great primer on the history of the Egyptian pyramids. The story was wasy to read and follow and was written so that young readers could easily comprehend things. The time-travel element was fun and my daughters seemed to like that. While there were a few elements that were a bit out there for me as a parent, the kids loved it and in the end they were even more interested in learning more which is always the sign of a good book!*I received this for review - all opinions are my own*
