2013 EP from the Pop/Americana singer/songwriter. Thanks features five brand new songs written and produced by the iconic artist, who won a Grammy award following the release of her breakthrough album, I Am Shelby Lynne, in 2000. ''As a musician, these songs are a way to express my love and gratitude to the universe and to all of the music appreciating souls out there for the friendship and fellowship that music brings us - all in the name of love and sharing,'' says Shelby. Lynne recorded Thanks at Everso Studio in Palm Desert, CA with co-producer Ben Peeler, who also played lap steel and guitars and contributed background vocals. In addition, the EP features the legendary Maxine Waters on piano and vocals, Michael Jerome on drums/percussion and Ed Maxwell on upright and electric bass, Wurlitzer, Moog and background vocals.

Thanks for thanks...how bout 4.5 stars
Through the years I'd heard of Shelby Lynne but never really knew much about her nor could not place her voice with a song. Last year I caught a video: Heaven's Only Days Down The Road - that did it - a month or two later I got the CD from Amazon. I am amazed about why this incredible singer does not impact/chart more than she does.I love her singing and would never pan her outright...none the less this is a short album (an ep if you prefer) and I just don't think it measures up to the other three albums I have of hers. The first track: Call Me Up, is just too repetitive with the song title entirely being used way too much... it can work in some songs (i.e. Run Baby Run by Sheryl Crow) but on this track it seems like it's a shortcoming for a lack of other words. And I happen to think way too much of Shelby and very highly regard her too much for this. Now that being said it's an arguable point and others may find it very pleasing.Others have reviewed each track in this effort quite well. I think one challenge is that on this CD and the Revelation Road CD she writes each song and produces the album as well. It works on Revelation Road but I believe she needs to open her self up to other writers and perhaps bring on another producer or at least a co-producer. This album just seems to fall short - very good yes; but excellent - no... but it should be!This woman is an incredible voice and to me one of the very best true country singers out there today. Taylor Swift (I like) is a glittery country pop singer - Miranda Lambert is a real live true blue country female singer, like Shelby. Shelby Lynne songs shows her to us and we feel her: Frustrated, vulnerable, soul searching - frequently spiritual (God.) She is gutsy, she is blues, she is soul, she is searing, she is soaring, she is gritty and she let's it all go out- in short - she is a most excellent female vocalist. Sooner or later I will own all her music - I just don't think this is her best effort. But for the price you get five terrific portraits of her and I hope that would be enough to sell her to a new comer. There is seldom an artist whose every album has every cut as five stars.Do buy this because it will introduce you to one of the most compelling female vocalists (non opera) of any genre you will ever hear in your life. I don't think you'll be sorry - read the other reviews (of the tracks) because opinions (there are some very excellent ones, I might add) vary but I recommend you buy this.

I'm still not sure why she isn't among the best selling artists on the music scene
Shelby always has my ear. She clearly writes and selects songs with meaning. Maybe that's why this cd is a bit short time-wise. And, her special blend of soul, country, pop and jazz makes everything she does worthwhile for me. I'm still not sure why she isn't among the best selling artists on the music scene.

Not Wired for Easy
Shelby Lynne's new EP "Thanks" is a five-song return to form that marries her amazingly expressive vocals to some strong new songs. "Call Me Up" that opens the set is a bouncy catchy little gem with Shelby on guitar and Maxine Waters on background vocals. "Forevermore" is a two-minute gem with cosmic Lynne pushing aside "the velvet curtain." "Walkin'" is a sweet old-timey religious shuffle as Shelby "walks in the steps of the Lord." "The Road Is On" is one of my favorites with its slow bluesy torch-ballad burn as Lynne milks the emotions, equal parts sadness and resolve, "Faith keeps me busy trying to find it." "Thanks" is a lovely homage to those who stand by us during tough times. Shelby Lynne is one of the most interesting of current recording artists because she always keeps you on your toes. Her incredible vocal gift and songwriting muse constantly takes her audience in directions unexpected. The opening line of "Forevermore" is, "I'm not wired for easy," which might aptly describe her career. Every bar of every song is absolutely real, authentic and sincere. She is a Master Musician. Enjoy!

No, Thank-You
Shelby Lynne could sing excerpts from the yellow pages and I would listen. Her voice has that combination of whiskey huskiness and raw emotion all too rare in modern music. Although I don't think this is her best, it is still very, very good. When I got it, I put it in my car's CD rotation and it has been there ever since. If Shelby can't touch your heart and soul, well maybe you are lacking something there.

Great Music from a Great Artist.
Everything Shelby does is great. She's so honest with her music and she sings what is going on with her. She's very underrated as an artist. Shelby Lynne is for people who love a great voice and honest lyrics.
