Works Great for Gradual Lightening!
I’ve been using the John Frieda Go Blonder Lightening Spray for a while now, and I have to say, it really works! I wanted to lighten my hair gradually without damaging it too much, and this spray does exactly that. What I Love:✅ Gradual, Natural-Looking Lightening – It doesn’t bleach your hair instantly, but with a few uses, you start seeing a noticeable difference. My hair looks brighter and sun-kissed instead of brassy or artificial.✅ Easy to Use – Just spray it on damp hair, focus on the areas you want to lighten, and use heat (a blow dryer or sun exposure) to activate it. No mixing, no mess.✅ No Harsh Bleach Smell – It smells way better than traditional hair bleach, which is a huge plus.✅ Doesn’t Make My Hair Feel Too Dry – Some lighteners leave hair straw-like, but this one has hydrogen peroxide without feeling too damaging. I still use conditioner just to be safe, though. What Could Be Better:❌ Not for Dark Hair – This works best for blonde or light brown hair. If you have darker hair, it might not work as well or could leave brassiness.❌ Needs Heat to Work – You have to blow dry or be in the sun for it to lighten, so it’s not an instant, leave-in solution.❌ Can Cause Dryness with Overuse – Like any lightener, if you use it too often without deep conditioning, your hair might feel a bit dry.Final Thoughts:Overall, this is a great product for gradual, controlled lightening, especially for people who want a natural sun-kissed look without committing to bleach. I’ve purchased it multiple times and will keep using it! Highly recommend for blondes or those looking for subtle highlights.

Easy and natural
I last purchased 2 bottles of this in the summer of 2022, and it’s now April of 2025, and I’ve not even started on the 2nd bottle. I’ve always been blonde, and am nearing 70 with almost no gray. It’s wonderful and easy to keep my hair looking like it has all my life. It reminds me of using the other sun-in product, and laying out when I was a teen. All I have to do is spray my hair around my part while damp , and it looks like it has all my life. It’s subtle, natural, and easy…just spray on damp hair and blow dry.

Quick, inexpensive results for natural blondes!
I used it after the shower on my roots, then blow dried it. Has a smell when you initially spray it but not when it’s dry. I’ve only been using it for a week and I definitely see results! I’m a natural blonde but have dark growth from the winter. It definitely blended my hair and lightened the roots. Does not make your hair greasy and so far, I have not noticed any damage. Great product!

It takes awhile but IT WORKS!!
Initial review: So, I was one of those kids with "dirty blonde" or "dishwater blonde" hair and as I got older it darkened considerably. (I actually dyed it dark brown and then black for many years, but my hair has been dye-free for at least 5 years now.) I was curious to see it truly blonde again, since it had those ashy gold undertones that didn't let it fully commit to being what so many folks ABSOLUTELY INSIST is "light brown." I knew going the salon route would end up bankrupting me especially if I wanted to do any kind of highlighting/dimensional effect. So, thought I'd give this a try instead. The bottle says results should be visible between 5 and 10 uses. For me it took several months of washing my hair every 4 days and using this product at least once (but often more than that) per wash cycle before I really started to notice a difference. I've been through 4 bottles now, and it's brought out some interesting effects in my hair. The first thing I noticed was that it gave my hair a really healthy shine. I've had people ask what products I use to get it so shiny, but less questions about the color, lol. I've also noticed that my hair has some prominent red undertones - something that was masked while it was darker. At first I tried to counteract this by slathering on purple toner, but you can't purple shampoo away the red. Just embrace it if your hair is like mine. I love my hair color now. I do still wonder what it would look like with platinum highlights, but that's out of my budget for now, so this is a nice (and less harsh) alternative. Some notes about my routine: for my first use, to get things going, I mixed about half a bottle of this product with a bunch of the Go Blonder mask in a bowl, then absolutely saturated my hair with it and left it in for about an hour before shampooing and conditioning as normal. I noticed no difference. I didn't do this intensive treatment again, but I did use 2 bottles each of the Go Blonder shampoo and conditioner along with this product for the first 2 months. After that first treatment, I used as recommended, spritzing it all over my hair post-wash. If I am going out in the sun for awhile, I always try to spray some more in to get a little extra lightening effect. I have also tried a purple toner conditioning treatment which did nothing for me. Recently I tried changing my part, and that's when I really noticed the difference in color! I do spray everywhere, but my guess is that the sun hitting that top layer makes a big difference.Bottom line: it probably won't give you platinum blonde hair. But it will make your hair shiny and overall a bit lighter over time.UPDATE Nov. 2022: For fun, I recently started using the Eva NYC "Tone It Down Blonde" line of shampoo, conditioner and leave-in cream, and not only am I starting to see less red in my hair, I also think the lightening effect of the John Frieda spray is amplified. My advice, based on this: find a good toning product that works for you to use in conjunction with the spray - it can be challenging, but also try BLUE instead of PURPLE if your hair isn't super light. And be patient!!UPDATE March 2023: I've found that my hair doesn't lighten past the most recent photo on here using this product (to go lighter, I'd need to bleach it in a salon). That's ok because I like my color! I did notice that with excessive use, my hair was starting to get a bit damaged, both from this and from heat styling, so I've stopped using it EVERY time I wash my hair and only use it on the roots about once every 3 washes. I find that this refreshes the color sufficiently although it does fade a little between applications. My hair is starting to heal and that's most important for me at this time.UPDATE July 2023: I was wrong, my hair continues to lighten! I am SHOCKED when I look back at pics of myself before I started using this and even more shocked that I had the audacity to call that blonde, lmao. I've been using about 10-15 sprays of this stuff on my hair after washing it most times (occasionally I give it a break) and doing purple shampoo and conditioner about once every 4 washes, and my hair keeps getting lighter and lighter. I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair color. People I haven't seen in awhile assume I go to a salon for these results. Somehow it looks natural and dimensional, more like highlights than overall bleach. I absolutely love it.
