Very Limited Content
While this book uses good and varied case studies to illustrate different stylistic choices in set design and the use of spaces to emphasize a narrative, the actual content of the book is very limited. Although very insightful, each chapter is essentially a 1-2 page essay (meaning about 15 pages of content in the entire book). It uses full spreads to provide one-sentence dictionary definitions of words like ‘apartment’, ‘mansion’, and ‘brownstone’ instead of using the opportunity to describe other, more typical examples of their use in film or to define more unfamiliar concepts. The floor plans don’t include any scale or annotations. This is more of a picture-less “coffee-table book” than a reference guide for anyone looking to pursue set design. Might be good for a teenager interested in film.

Absolutely amazing
I highly recommend this book. It is perfect for anyone interested in film and production design. I am not in the film industry but this was so interesting and entertaining to read, gave me a new perspective on how to watch movies. All the chapters are fascinating but my favorite chapter was the one on the Home Alone house! Also makes a perfect coffee table book. All in all, 10/10 would recommend!
