Porter Cable 846724 Sander Felt Pad

My sander is the very old (about 35 years) Rockwell version of this palm sander. This felt pad is the identical replacement item. It fits perfectly and performs just like the original. For some time these replacement felt pads were not available. I purchased the only thing being sold at that time, the foam pad replacement. They are much too soft, and that results in the sandpaper being torn or punctured very easily. Consequently my sandpaper costs went up dramatically. This felt pad solves all these problems. I highly recomment it. If you are using the foam pad, get rid of it and replace it with this item.

This was an exact fit replacement for the felt pad on my ancient Rockwell sander (which later became Porter Cable). Installs with four screws and works perfectly. Takes about a minute to install and saved having to buy a new sander.

I was debating if I should get the "Stick It" replacement pad as originally equipped OR if I could use this felt pad version on my old PC 330 Type 2 palm sander. The Porter Cable 846724 felt pad replacement works perfectly replacing the original foam "Stick It" part. I never liked using the self sticking sand paper - selection, availability and quality was not good - and used my sander with shop cut sand paper and the retention clips. The felt pad appears to be a lot sturdier and should last a lot longer than the foam "Stick It" OEM pad - the part is a Porter Cable part too. I rated it a 4 due to the high cost at $19.00 through Amazon - if I get another 15 years from this sander it might just be worth it.

Finally--the original felt pad is available. There is no comparison between this pad and the pathetic soft foam pads; for one thing, this one does not wear out on the edges in one day's sanding use! I am beyond happy to have this pad on my sander again--it gives me a flat surface and is durable and will last and retain its flatness far far far longer than the foam option. Delighted with the purchase!

This was one of my favorite sanders ever. i thought I lost it but this pad brought it back to life. Fits perfectly.

I was delighted to find a compatible replacement for my excellent 30+ year old Rockwell sander. I was on the verge of fabricating one myself when I discovered that Porter Cable had apparently bought out Rockwell power tools and continued to manufacture and support this excellent orbital sander. It would be nice to add former brands and models to the product description so that it could be easily found when searching on the original model #. This saved me much more time than the purchase price. Very happy!

Original foam pad eventually disintegrated. Never used adhesive-backed sandpaper, so switched from original "Stikit" foam pad (#13597) to felt pad. This replacement felt pad is thick and I expect it will probably outlast the sander.
