CHH Imports 15 Inch Backgammon Set In Brown Vinyl Map Design Case

This is the 3rd backgammon board I've owned. I was replacing my aging set to have a nicer set to use with family. Having read lots of reviews, I picked this one. It was the best price, balanced with the best appearance and apparent best quality. We were happily satisfied when it arrived. The map print is an endearing touch -- the antiqued map print is evocative, and is not blatantly inaccurate (I'm a history teacher, so find some fake map decorations tacky -- this one is nice).The exterior is a nice finish: upholstered with the map fabric and leather-like trim -- neither is meant to seem like actual leather, but they have a quality, satisfying appearance; they do not feel or seem tacky or cheap. The fittings (locks and handle) are effective without misalignment or feeling like they would easily break. We are using our set in house (not for heavy travel) and it feels solid enough to last for years. The interior lining is also well done. Some backgammon boards look appliqued but are actually stamped/printed; this one is not -- the base of the board is a soft, feltlike beige, and the diamonds are stitched on in a leather-like material similar to the external lining, in a high quality effect. Seams are finished well (I've seen sets where the lining is crooked or cheaply finished with glue showing, etc; this is much nicer than that). The dice cups are covered in the same map material as the exterior and felt-lined, which is a quality effect. The dice and playing pieces are solid -- they are made of a quality resin/plastic with a nice finish, not cheap wood or flimsy plastic. Overall it is a really satisfying set that I would feel comfortable giving as a gift and appreciate having for our family for years. There is one small criticism I had read about the set's design, and this is true: for some odd design choice, the "homebase" space for storing playing pieces is larger than it needs to be, while the box in the middle for storing dice is not large enough to store all 4 playing dice plus the scoring cube. We put the scoring cube in that box and just leave the dice in the cups when closing the case and that works fine. It didn't bother me -- I was still glad to get such a nice set for less than comparable sets -- but the company might consider fixing that one detail of the design for future. Maybe check later reviews to see if it is corrected.

Great set of standard size. Good quality for the price. Love the old world map design. Only negative is that the slot where the playing pieces go is not a good fit, so pieces don't stay in place when case is closed. Would buy again.

Bottom Line.... This is a really nice set for what you pay for it, but is still cheaply made, but I see no reason why it wont last for years of playing, and me and my daughter have been using it a LOT since we got it. I knocked one star off because when I received it one of the hinges was missing the pin and it just kinda "flopped" open when I pulled it out of the box, but luckily the pin was in the bottom of the box, so I put it back in and have had no problem since. For $35 its a good deal, if I paid $60 I would still be happy with it... I recommend it.

I run an on-line backgammon league and offered this board as a tournament prize during our 14th league anniversary. It matches our "World League" name and theme perfectly. I opened the box to peek at it before sending it to the winner and was impressed with the quality of it. Based on the price I didn't expect it to look as nice as it did and was immediately tempted to keep it for myself. Upon receiving it, the winner of the board e-mailed me and complimented the quality and theme of the board. He was very happy with it and intends on showing it off at his next backgammon club event. If it's still available I will purchase another to use as a tournament prize in the future and will most likely purchase one for myself.

We love the color and style of this set! It's not uber-high-quality or anything, but it's not cheap either... which is perfect as a first set for our kids. My mother played backgammon with me growing up, and I've enjoyed teaching the game to my young kids. The pieces are also a comfortable size for their little hands to manipulate, yet not so tiny that it's impractical for an adult to play along with them. Perfect for us!

I bought this based on the description and great customer reviews despite the lack of photos by the seller, which was a mistake. This backgammon set was a big disappointment. The points are raised so you can't slide the pieces onto them. Also, the channels on the side for holding the chips and dice seem to be randomly set. The chip slots are too long for the pieces, so they fall out when you close the case. Why not just put the dice in to take up the extra space like on other boards? They're too short to hold the dice. The center side space is also too small to hold all 5 dice. This seems so strange, because it would be so easy to make these slots the correct size -- just nail in the dividers in a slightly different spot and it'd be fine. The slots on the opposite side of the board are longer and hold the chips and small dice (still no good spot for the doubler), but they're too long, and the pieces still fall out once the board is closed. I'm returning this.I'll include photos so others can see what the board really looks like. This isn't for me, but it could be just what someone else is looking for

BEWARE! I paid over $100 for this as a gift.... 1st I am so disappointed with the packaging it looks very cheap. I don’t think I will give it to the recipient in its original box as it is very damaged on the corner. 2nd the dice boxes are poorly put together, there is gaps between the liner and the sides, looks cheap. 3rd there is no magnetic quality apparent, false advertising. 4th the hardware is very cheap especially the hinges. 5th the corners are not glued very well and there is dried glue apparent adding to the cheap quality of this item. This is only worth $30-$40 . I bought this based on other reviews because the seller does not have pictures...I should have known better.
