The consistency is firm, think like a damp towel that was frozen. Fairly stiff but when enough pressure is applied it will give and won't go back the same. But more firm than you might expect, I was able to push on this and not deform or break it easily. I suggest if you need soundproofing, but just know it is an ingredient in the recipe for soundproofing. There was just the right amount of rigidty to make them durable. We cut 45 degree angles on the edges to fit them into the corners of our church fellowship room. We covered them with fabric to match our walls and suspended them from the ceiling with 60 pound test nylon line. They look great and help absorb sound when there are large crowds in the room. The price was great compared to pre-made sound panels.
