Tunnel of Bones (City of Ghosts #2) (2)

Great part of series by V E Schwab. I loved it so much I had to get copies for my LFL to release into the world.

My children were incredibly excited for this release after absolutely eating up City of Ghosts. The looks on their faces when I began it for our October read aloud was wonderful! Let me begin by talking about City of Ghosts (the first book) we read it together twice and it provided a perfect hit list of places to visit on a recent trip to Edinburgh (my home town). Creepy, clever and a beautifully crafted story which left us hoping for more which was delivered so well in this second installment. We read Tunnel of Bones in two sittings as it was so unputdownable. It's set in Paris (my kids' home town!) and had a great eerie story with a little more background to the main characters which created a second plot which we're eager to hear even more of. I recommend the series to anyone who likes an atmospheric and uncomfortable story, full of historical tidbits and suspense. My favorite bit....when my kids (aged 9,10 and 11) joined in "Watch and Listen, See and know,..........." Brrrrrrrrr! Loved it!

These books read super easy and fast for me. So yeah I finished this in a single night lol. Yay! It got one more star than the first. I love when a series graduates in stars and I don’t dislike it as much as I thought I would! But oh my god. The Harry Potter references. I may fully cringe into myself and disappear if there are more in the next book. I don’t get it. I swear I thought I’d be free of them this book. Scotland? Okay kinda makes sense to have SOME references. But in this one it was literally being mentioned just to be mentioned. My eyes hurt from rolling them so much. I get that it’s middle grade.... but why? It’s not needed. Thankfully, there was no more weird language barrier banter- even though there definitely was room for it and whatnot. I guess the author got tired of writing it herself lmfao. So that was a plus. The overall storyline of this one was a lot better and was actually focused on an adequate amount. It didn’t feel like a side story and was actually really engaging. The idea for this ghost in general is super haunting (I don’t do spoilers so I didn’t go into detail, sorry). It was also super atmospheric and fitting for a place as horrifying as the catacombs. And in a way? Kinda sad. I do feel like it could have almost been sadder even- but I guess Schwab didn’t wanna go there. A real shame. Again idk if it’s just a middle grade thing- but what’s with the recapping the first book? It’s only been this and another middle grade series I’ve seen it happen in recently. So assuming it being middle grade is the reason- it won’t have impact on my rating. Maybe it’s just my being an adult- but even as a younger kid who read series together I feel it would have annoyed me. The rest of the things I enjoyed were about the same as the first book. The true and morbid history of Paris laced into a spooky ghost story that actually really held my attention. And of course, I loved the actual pictures of the catacombs at the end. I also loved the growth that is happening with Cassidy and jacobs relationship and interested to see what happens with it in terms of him you know... being a ghost. I’m just pleased to say this book convinced me to get the next one when it comes out! Stay tuned. Still not a fan of the writing style but meh. I’ll deal

Great book for teenagers! My daughter says she enjoyed the trilogy

These were a good read for any age. Must give a read. You won’t regret getting lost in this series

How does such a small book pack such a great punch?! All I know is that @veschwab has done it again :D Tunnel of Bones is the second book about ghost hunter/helper Cassidy Blake and her ghost friend Jacob, and though this series is *intended* for middle grade readers, it's excellent for all ages. It has it all: History! Mystery! Ghosts! [spoiler]! Detective work! And as always: excellent storytelling and character growth, as well as a good understanding of the story the author wants to tell. ~~~ This time we're taken to all of Paris' most haunted places and I loved every minute of it. I now have a whole map of places to visit next time I'm there. But don't think you're going on a leisurely stroll through the park, maybe bumping into a ghost here and there. I don't want to spoil anything, but safe to say Schwab really raises the stakes this time around and both Cassidy, Jacob and Lara have to dig deep in their bags of tricks to basically save Paris. ~~~ In short, go support an amazing author this weekend and cosy up on the couch this book (and City of Ghosts, the first one in the series) :D:D:D You will not be disappointed!

Book: Tunnel of Bones Author: Victoria Schwab Rating: 4 Out of 5 Stars This is the second book in the Cassidy Blake series. Just like the first book, I found myself really enjoying myself. Now, I will admit that I do kind of a love-hate relationship with this author. This series, though, has been a hit with me and I will most certainly be picking up the other books. I will admit that I really didn’t enjoy this one as much as City of Ghosts, but it is still well worth the read. (Maybe it’s because I really don’t want to go to Paris.) This story follows Cassidy, her family, and her ghost friend, Jacob as they go across the world making a TV series about haunted places and ghosts. Cassidy has the ability to see ghosts and escort them on to whatever it is that awaits them. Of course, this gets her into trouble and she is living this double life. Plus, we have Jacob who kind of makes her keep a level head and from doing anything to rash. Of course, it doesn’t always work out that way. What I love about this series is how spooky and creepy Victoria makes it. This is middle grade-so keep that in mind. However, we do have a lot of the same horror elements that we get in older horror. We have the creepy feeling of haunted Paris and not knowing what is going to happen next. Victoria does an amazing job of showing us the terror and the feeling of not knowing what is going to happen. I mean, no one really thinks about a haunted Paris, but this book will spend creepy vibes running down your spine. Plus, look at the cover. Doesn’t it just scream creepy? What I also loved about this book was Cassidy and Jacob’s friendship. I love how there’s not a bit of romance between them and we just have a guy and girl friendship. I don’t know why so many authors think they had be put all of their male and female characters together. It’s just one of those things that drives me mad. It’s just such a fresh thing to find a book where we just have a good old fashioned guy and girl friendship. Another thing that I also liked was how even though Cassidy really knows a lot, I like how she’s not afraid to ask for help. Bring in Lara, who is always there for her no matter what. Overall, I really enjoyed this quick, yet spooky, read. I highly recommend it.

The first book was okay, but as a European I felt there were too many mistakes in the book. Hardly European countries are using sprinkler systems, I don't believe any parents would let their child make phone calls across boarders in Europe. Its too expensive, special with a US sim. She could use data, but the dad complain about the price on data in the book. And there is no way any parents would let their 12 year run around in Paris by them self or not keep an better eye on their child underground. It's too unrealistic and the main person behave way to mature for someone, who are 12 years old. I know the story is most likely for 10-15 years old, so I guess it makes it better. But as an adult, most of the reasons above ruins it a bit for me. But at least I'm going to read the last book...

Great book excellent read

I liked Tunnel of Bones better than City of Ghosts. The ghost they’re investigating on is rather interesting and I loved the ending. We learn a bit more about Jacob 🥰 and the fact that they’re in Paris was really cool too. As a middle grade novel, the plot is linear and rather simple. Cassidy being a child is sometimes a bit annoying because she has to sneak out of her parents’ attention and I really don’t care about those technicalities when there’s a poltergeist on the loose! I also like the new characters and Lara.

I absolutely love reading this series!! It is a fast paced book which really captures your attention as a reader

The story is great. The descriptions, the world building is all perfect. I highly recommend all 3 books in the series. I really really want the author to continue these books.
