My teenage son plays lacrosse and often the combination of wet grass and sweaty feet/cleats, sweaty damp chest pads, elbow pads and helmet gets stuffed in his bag and zipped up and forgotten about until next day which equates to an absolutely disgusting smell wafting from his bag. Starting this housekeeping trick with clean or new gear is helpful but helps either way.MAKE SURE Place bags in sunlight (UV light activates them not the heat so you can do it even on a cold day) for EIGHT hours before using and reactivate charcoal in sunlight every 1-2 months

It is not a true 12 pack of bags that would fit in shoes. Ten are the little ones that fit in shoes. Two are much bigger and not sure what they would be used for as they would only fit in shoes for bigfoot.

They do work - but only when consistently "recharged." Otherwise, mediocre at best. When there are lots of clouds and rain where you live, letting them set in the sun is rather difficult and, not to mention, really easy to forget.

I put these in the sun for the recommendation, 6 hours, then I placed them in closets, behind shoe racks and behind my ball cap racks and so far I feel like the odor from sweat is better. The closet and mudroom always smelt musty and I would have to use a plug in room deodorizer, I took that out and I am not smelling that funky smell anymore. You get so many bags for the price, amazing because I priced a lot of them before getting these. It says to recharge monthly in the sun which i don’t mind as long as they eliminate odors. Supposed to last two years, fingers crossed.

These things are great. I bought some two years ago for the new shoes I was bringing with me to Cameroon (really). Those shoes have worn out, but (with regular recharging) the inserts are still working great!I live and work in the monsoon zone of West Africa. Very hot, very humid, lots of rain. I walk everywhere. I use these inserts to dry out my shoes when I come home and keep them from getting ... well, smelly. I'm back in the US for a month and have bought new shoes, and I am buying new inserts because it just seems healthier to do that, not because the old ones stopped working. I'm also bringing a few extra pairs back for a coworker because, honestly, he needs them.But seriously, these inserts are great.

I pop these into my shoes after each wear, and I haven't had any issues with odor ever since. I used to have shoes that smelled really bad from sweat. I use them in all my shoes: casual sneakers, formal leather, snow boots, running shoes.It came with so many that I've even put them in my gardening sneakers which used to smell a lot because they'd get wet and muddy, and have years and years of sweat built up. I'm able to store those shoes inside now because they have no odor whatsoever.I put them all out in the sun for a couple of hours every few weeks to keep them working their best. I wish I'd gotten them sooner.

Product name is misleading, the charcoal bags require activation prior to use. This requires sunlight which may be difficult for some households to achieve. It will take time for me to determine how to lay these in sunlight for 6-8 hours which requires sunny skies and lack of rain.
