It’s been three years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles. When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times. With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Something Old, Something New
I bought Jurassic World because my son and I love dinosaurs, and so we are very fond of the Jurassic Park/World series. I am happy enough that we are having a good time watching these movies and have topics of conversation to share. However, there are some other really cool things I wanted to point out:1. Old Dinosaurs. The original T. Rex from Jurassic Park continues to appear in these films, though like in Jurassic World, she is really a side character who shows up in time to stomp the right thing and make an impression with her roar. Blue is also back and continues to grow. I like how the story ends with her calling for other raptors (my son figured that out). I also like the dichotomy and homages with the original film. The first dinosaur seen on Isla Nublar was the brachiosaur. This is also the last dinosaur seen on Isla Nublar as the island is destroyed by a volcano. (However, I don't think that will stick. I see a future where characters return to Isla Nublar.)2. New Dinosaurs. Yes, the indo raptor is awesome and wicked. As a character, it had more personality than any other dinosaur before it. But there are other neat dinos that show up, like the Carnotaurus, a horned kind of tyrannosaur, and the baryonx, a dinosaur with a crocodilian mouth. Both were really cool to see, as was the styracosaurus and the juvenile allosaurus. So I give the creators major credit for adding new kinds of dinosaurs to the mix.3. Original plot. Okay, so Lost World (AKA, Jurassic Park 2) was about a team going to Isla Sor to look for dinosaurs, and in the end, there was a conspiracy from InGen (Hammond's company) to remove the dinosaurs to the mainland. That's kind of what happens here. But if you ignore the broad strokes, there is a lot of plot that felt original. For instance, most JP movies have one big bad that is stalking the humans throughout most of the movie. There wasn't any of that. The indo raptor doesn't show up until almost the third act. The first half of the movie is about saving dinosaurs from Isla Nublar. Then there is the auction and the subplot about Lockwood's granddaughter. Really cool stuff. The way the movie ends really opens up possibilities, and I am excited about what the next installment will look like. Really, I think this was overall the best movie that came out in Summer 2018. (I'm not including movies before May 1.)

Dino Crisis
0: The fifth in a series of Jurassic Park movies and the second of the soft reboot trilogy, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom borrows from both the second Jurassic Park film The Lost World: Jurassic Park and the Resident Evil series of video games. Owen and Claire (Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard) are back as the bickering love interests set to rescue the dinosaurs from Jurassic World as a volcano threatens to destroy the island and make the dinosaurs extinct again.Although very well directed (by J.A. Bayona) and with good special effects, the story simply fails this sequel as the premise of the film it doesn't make any logical sense and the characters (particularly Pratt and Howard) do little to engage the audience throughout the silliness. In all fairness, the first Jurassic World had a pretty flimsy premise as well. The idea that people are tired of looking at dinosaurs is laughable. I mean look at all the cruises to the Galapagos to see turtles, Antarctica to see penguins, whale watching tours to see well whales, or even bloody dog shows. A Saturday afternoon at an Everglades alligator farm will quickly put a lie to the idea that people don't like seeing dinosaurs eat chickens.Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's premise is that we need to save the dinosaurs from extinction because the island they all live on is blowing up. The first flaw in this masterpiece is that there is another island far away from this one also filled with dinosaurs.Jurassic Park Site B island is not some piece of trivia. It was the location for both The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III.Okay so maybe the current characters didn’t know about this secret island on might say? Jeff Goldblum (who is wasted in this film by the way) was the star of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. I certainly would expect that during his congressional testimony he might bring it up. Plus it was the T-rex from that island that ate San Diego. I don’t think it is a secret. There really is a bigger problem with the plot than just the what about that giant other dinosaur island the film series is conveniently forgetting. The dinosaurs are man-made creatures (notice the lack of feathers and the fact the velociraptors are not eighteen inches in height and 33 pounds like the real ones were.) Which means we can just make more dinosaurs. We can make them any size and color and disposition we want. That is kinda the theme that has run throughout the entire series after all. These dinosaurs are simply not extinct if we can make more.I like both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as actors but their characters have no chemistry in this. Pratt leaves most of his charisma in his trailer when he tries to go full action star and Bryce Dallas Howard acts like she should be running a PTA bake sale. The two millennials they bring along on this trip grew on me but a wiser script would have had them eaten. The relationship between Pratt and the velociraptor Blue in this film also has some issues. They took away the Blue may turn on Pratt angle from the first Jurassic World and retconned her as an adorable pet. Pratt calls Blue the second most intelligent creature on the planet and she is the focus of the rescue. I am not buying it. Blue can open doors, is an intelligent and ruthless hunter, and responds to treats and laser lights. If the velociraptor slept eighteen hours a day it would be my cat.I credit the film for trying something new in its second half. Cribbing heavily from Resident Evil, Carnosaur, and the movie Taken of all things the adventure in the mansion certainly wasn’t what I was expecting when I saw the ads. (what I was expecting was giant aquatic dinosaurs eating surfers and yes I waited for the whole movie for that and yes I am still upset.)The second half of the movie really is straight from the Resident Evil videogame right down to the little girl who (I am calling it here) probably has velociraptor DNA. Honesty it sticks a lot closer to the plot of Resident Evil than any of the Paul W.S. Anderson movies managed to. I love the twist I just wished I liked the characters and the movie more. The opening bit with the guys trying to get the bone underwater in the dark rain is excellent as is the final montage (Where my surfer eating dinosaur finally makes a too-brief appearance.) The rest of the film is fun but somewhat disposable.

Return to Isla Nublar
A new movie in the Jurassic Park franchise. Sequel to 'Jurassic World' and you do really need to have seen that in order to get into this. It's three years since the events of that film. Owen and Claire haven't exactly lived happily ever after. But are reunited when the volcano on the island where the park was becomes active. And it's a race to save the dinosaurs. But then they find there's more to the expedition than meets the eye...Like the previous film, this does exactly what you would expect, with lots of dinosaur set pieces and humans in peril as a result. But it also does, to it's credit, try to do things a little differently. Which is why the plot does take the story to places the franchise has never been before. It is written as the middle of a trilogy, and like many of those that I've read in book form, it does move things along and set things up for a third and final one.It is a thoroughly watchable and likeable blockbuster bit of escapism. Like the first film, it doesn't ever try or promise to be anything more than that. But whilst it is as watchable a bit of escapism as that was, it just doesn't quite have the freshness that that did. Thus it's a four rather than five star release.Jeff Goldblum does reprise his role from the original Jurassic Park. For only a couple of minutes of screentime.Do be aware that although the film does contain dinosaurs, some bits might be too scary for the very young, and they might be a bit too young to follow the plot as well. In which case, there's no point In letting them watch it, is there? Yes, lady who was behind me in the cinema, I am talking about you...The disc has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English,. English audio description.Subtitles: English. Arabic. The disc begins with several trailers, which can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. It contains the usual flyer with code for downloading a copy of the film from a website onto a digital device. And dvd owners actually do quite well with this for once when it comes to extras:There are ten different featurettes. None run more than five mins, and you can't select play all for them so have to watch them one at a time. They all look at different aspects of the production, and despite being short are all pretty good. It helps to have Chris Pratt at the front of most as he is an affable presenter.Same goes for the other extra section, Chris Pratt's Jurassic Journals. These are twelve short films, all no longer than a minute, in which he interviews various production staff and in two of them, actors. All are short and fun watches, and you will learn a lot about various roles on a movie set from this. These can be watched individually, or via a play all option.
