Swing Down Memory Lane!
I picked up this book for a couple reasons. First, I am aquainted with the author because I went to their swing dance camp in 1998 and 99. Second, I started swing dancing in the "resurgence" era and I got the bug like so many people of that time did.Stevens book is both informative as well as entertaining. Learning about the roots of the dance, how it evolved from each musical progression, and how a few people resurrected it in the eighties and nineties, giving it new breath and a life that will surely take it to the next several generations.Stevens includes many anecdotes from the legendary dancers Frankie Manning and Norma Miller, as well as Dean Collins, Jean Veloz and many more, too numerous to count. Her personal interviews as well as research has created a handy book for historians and novice enthusiasts alike. It is a great book that every swing dance enthusiast should buy and keep in their library.

Hoped for more exploration of African American swing dances.
I credit he authors for acknowledging the African American origin of Swing dances, but I was looking for more information about some of the other branches of the Lindy Hop tree, such as the Chicago Bop and Chicago Steppin. A good first read.

Good History on Swing Dancing
What happened to everyone's reviews? I guess swing dancers don't like to read. I don't think there is another book out there on the topic. I enjoyed reading about its early roots during times of slavery to minstrel shows to dixieland and ragtime. I was hoping there be more information on those times but the bulk of the book is on the 1930s and on which I already know about from reading Manning's book.It is a fast and enjoyable read although there are times when it just lists just facts which can be tedious, boring reading.Overall, it's a good job by the Stevens' sisters who brought to life a book a history book that cannot be found elsewhere.

A must read!
This is a great book - well written and full of wonderful information by people who love the dance and were responsible for bringing it back. And are great dance instructors. It's a must read for anyone interested in dancing - and anyone interested in history in general.

What a great book
This book is very informative but also a fun read. You can tell the authors love swing dance. If you have a friend or family member who likes swing this is a great book. It's got everything. Really enjoyed it.

Swing, Swing, Swing
An excellent book written by the individuals who are a large part of the swing dance resurgence of the 1990s. It was they who "rediscovered" Frankie Manning in New York. This is a well-researched fun book.
