This machine isn't suitable for culturing L. Reuteri but.........
I bought this machine to cultivate L. Reuteri and specifically because Duronic says it's operating temperature is 38c,' low and slow' is their strap-line on that. My machine operated consistently at 45c, which made it unsuitable for cultivating L. Reuteri, the only reason I bought the machine and which is killed at that temperature. However, 45c is suitable for making other types of yoghurt and this is advertised as a yoghurt machine, so it does fulfil that function. On the plus side, it's a lovely looking machine, is lightweight but feels like a quality item and the ceramic bowl is a delight and so much better than metal or plastic. I was going to send this back but it's great for general yoghurt making and even for cheese making, so I'm going to keep it. For those who want to cultivate L.Reuteri without the outlay of expensive equipment get yourself a temperature controller (used for reptile heat mats) and a cheap non-digital i.e. manual control slow cooker and you're in business! It has to be a manual slow cooker otherwise the slow cooker will not come back on again when the temperature controller turns the power on and off to regulate the temperature.

Good yoghurt maker
Plus: Nice design, simple to use, lightweight, ceramic bowlMinus: plastic lid (for the ceramic bowl), no way to select a temperature. It is set to 42 degrees, while I would have preferred 37/38 degrees.Edit - I’ve had it 6 months now and use it weekly, it still works great.

Easy to use, no hassle
It has a fixed temperature so all you need to do is select the time and press go. If you want to culture unusual strains or ferment kefir then a variable temperature would be better. The ceramic pot is easy to clean. If you want the option of individual pots or a large one, get the YM2 and a spare 1.5l bowl as this is (currently) cheaper than buying the YM1 and spare small pots.

Yoghurt maker
Having moved to a cooler climate, I noticed the standard way I used to make yoghurt no longer worked. That was with a thermos food flask and it never failed. However after several attempts, I had to give up entirely and wasn't happy with shop bought that have all sorts of additives and thickeners. So I bought this machine with the ceramic bowl and with an heirloom Bulgarian starter, it made a beautiful yoghurt. Strained overnight to make labneh. A yoghurt maker with a ceramic bowl is difficult to find and is great at this price. I'm delighted with this purchase and look forward to making kefir in it too. Highly recommended.

Stopped working properly after 2 months.
This yogurt maker worked well at first but I have noticed that it is coming out extremely hot now. I got my thermometer out and it is over 60 Deg C! It should be around 38 - 45. I can only assume that the thermostat has stopped working. Needless to say it is no longer making good yogurt.

It works
I made my first ever home made yogurt with this and it’s really yummy. The unfortunate thing is that the instruction book tells you how to plug it in, but doesn’t tell you how to make yogurt. Thankfully other reviewers had shared their recipes. I used 1lt full fat whole milk from local dairy, 1/2 pot of Yeo valley natural yogurt. I set the timer for 13 hrs and the result was very nice thick and creamy yogurt. The ceramic pot is good- no plastic and it is easy to store in the fridge. I like this product and now I can make yogurt knowing that the only extras are the ones I add- no thickeners, sugars or flavourings .

Yoghurt made in a beautiful ceramic pot
This machine makes perfect yoghurt every time. I love that the pot you make the yoghurt in isn’t plastic as many others are. It also looks cute on my worktop but is small enough to store in a drawer. I used a couple of tablespoons of greek yoghurt as my starter added to a litre of whole uht milk. I add a couple teaspoons of skimmed milk powder as we like very thick yoghurt. I put the timer on the machine to 10 hours (so overnight). I then strain the yoghurt for a couple of hours at room temperature. Result is the most delicious creamy yoghurt.

Bonito,practico,buena calidad.
