Nashville Eats is a soulful celebration of Southern cooking straight from the heart of Music City. With over 100 irresistible recipes, Southern food expert Jennifer Justus invites readers into the kitchens, diners, and backyard barbecues that define Nashvilleโs vibrant culinary scene. From fiery hot chicken and mile-high buttermilk biscuits to pulled pork sandwiches, fried green tomatoes, and chess pie, this cookbook captures the bold flavors and rich traditions that make Nashville a food loverโs destination. Alongside the classics, Justus offers fresh takes on Southern staplesโlike Curried Black Chickpeas and Catfish Tacosโthat reflect the cityโs evolving tastes. Featuring stunning photography by Andrea Behrends and personal stories that highlight Nashvilleโs music, people, and culture, Nashville Eats is more than a cookbookโitโs a flavorful journey through a city thatโs as passionate about its food as it is about its sound. Whether you're a lifelong Southerner or a curious cook looking to spice up your repertoire, this book delivers the comfort, creativity, and community of Nashvilleโs kitchens to your own. Other delicious recipes include: Sawmill Sausage Gravy Jalapeรฑo Cornbread The Coolest Coleslaw Hot Chicken Salad Sandwiches The Nashville Burger Cherry Hand Pies and many more! Review: Highly Recommended - Nashville Eats begins with a very concise introduction and then moves into recipes for breads, appetizers and salads, chicken, meat, fish, sides, put-ups, sweets and drinks. There are profiles that showcase well-known Nashville businesses interspersed throughout and there are many full-color photographs of the finished dishes as well as general life in Nashville. The Mini Apple Cheddar Biscuits were delicious. I substituted all-purpose, white flour for the wheat flour as thatโs what I had on-hand and still loved the touch of sweetness added by the apples. The skillet Roasted Hot Chicken resulted in a perfectly moist, slightly spicy chicken with plenty of left-overs that we repurposed into the Chicken and Dumplings. I roasted mine with sweet potatoes instead of fennel. The Otaku Southโs Hot Chicken Buns were an innovative and creative take on fried chicken that came out great with a perfect level of spiciness. The Beef Brisket with Blue Cheese Grits, Pork Sausage and Pork Chops with Peach Chutney were all equally delicious. I will definitely be adding blue cheese to my grits again, as thatโs a combination I hadnโt had before. Overall, Nashville Eats is highly recommended for cooks of all skill levels who want to add Southern style cuisine to their table. Review: DO NOT READ THIS WHEN YOU'RE HUNGRY - Close as I live to Music City -- well, in a neighboring state -- I knew nothing much about the cuisine of that area till a friend posted a pic of something he'd made from the book, and that got my attention. The recipes look fabulous, and I'm going to make the "boozy peached baked in muffin tins" as soon as peaches begin to pop, but get a copy of the book if only for the food history and great prose. You'll be captivated, I promise.

Perfect cookbook to replicate Nashville's favorite recipes
I bought this cookbook as a gift for family missing home and for myself. Great recipes, easy to follow, quality updates for some favorites and recipes you can't find elsewhere from favorite Nashville spots. I love the stories about the farmers, companies and food movement- this cookbook shares an authentic story about where we are as a city, as we grew into our "It" city label and further define food trends.

Ever since I read about Princes hot chicken in the Cornbread Nation series of southern food writings, I have nursed a yen for the back streets of Nashville where the food reflects the multi stranded history of the city and new places arrive and depart like the wind. Jennifer Justus has written more than a boring ole list of restaurants which would swiftly date anyway. Instead we have valued advice from a local, as if she was our real life guide to the city and a local who is happy to share her secrets rather than do that tedious thing of keeping the best to herself in a kind of a foodie oneup-womanship. The book is conveniently divided up by cusine types and geographical neighbourhoods, making it a useful take along resource. There's 'landmarks'. 'foodie favourites' and plenty of personal experiences to keep the writing fresh, long after some of the joints have closed, which they are wont to do. There's lists of food trucks and festivals, places to eat and listen to music and advice on places to go that lie outside the city limits and a useful guide to drinks. The drinks section isn't an also ran either which can happen too often with some food writers. Jen keeps us well informed with advice on craft cocktails and where the best are to be found, there's info on craft breweries and distilleries, dive bars, honky tonks (a must!) and other watering holes that might otherwise go unnoticed in such a busy place. Finally, there's a recipe section from Nashville's coolest cooks which includes Por Favors famous chicken tortilla soup among offerings from Laura Wilson, Margot McCormack, Hal Holden-Bache and Tandy Wilson so if you can't get there just yet, all is not lost. Pack this handy 6X6 sized tome in your back pocket and book that flight. This is all you will need alongside an internet link to check opening times! I reviewed this ARC on Netgalley after being sent a review copy.
