A: The cut-off mesh size is 26cm

**Q: is the stand robust enough to withstand the pressure from the mashing process? Or is it designed simply to hold the strainer before/after use?**
A: The sieve itself seems quite robust as does the stand, but I'd be wary of applying forceful pressure on any contents. I've done this before with standard stainless sieves and they always break where the mesh is crimped into the rim. 
On the whole they are not made for what I think you are proposing. In addition the legs of the stand may start to splay if too much pressure is applied.
Depending on what you want to mash you'd be better off with a mouli legume.

**Q: Need to make vegetable juices without any pulp or fiber. Will this be effective in straining it after making a smoothie of the veggies?**
A: Absolutely. The end product is clear liquid without any pulp, seeds, skin or fibers in it.

It’s quite large. But a useful tool in the kitchen. I got mine mainly for dealing with coffee grounds which, if allowed down the plughole, can cause quite severe drain blockage. Not the easiest to clean (hence 4 rather then 5 stars) but it works well.
