I have tried a similar brand as Orico, and I was not pleased with its build quality. It felt like very cheap aluminum. This Orico device is very well built and is aesthetically appealing. Setup was a breeze and the tool-less drive insertion makes it even simpler. My R/W performance ranges from 50-140MB/s, and that is after trying 2 different cables. With that performance in mind, I would not recommend this device for much other than backup purposes. I'm personally using it for my Hyper Backup destination for my Synology NAS. If you are a photographer, using it for Plex media or any other use case that requires faster and more consistent R/W performance, then I do encourage you to not go with this device. Please note that my use case and review is only around RAID-0, and I configured that via the manual switches (no software). Overall this is a great device and purchase it, but do consider your use case for it.

It is good to add new HDDs and expand tour storage using a single usb cable, but Major Issue, Orico will stop HDDs once no update or change done on any HDD, but once you start doing any changes it will show HDD as blank, even in properties space is used, but cannot see the data. Worst tool to use.

This product is exactly what I needed. I wanted to significantly expand my PC storage without the cumbersome process of maintaining several external hdds (which typically have a lower capacity). This model allows a user to plug up to 4 HDDs of 16TB capacity each. It was extremely easy to set up and use. Installation is toolless, and hence you don't need to be a hardware expert to use this. I am using in non RAID configuration, meaning the HDDs are visible to PC as standalone drives. The price tag is quite economical. The only slight downsides of the product were: 1) I felt the power cable was smaller than what I needed and hence had to go for an extension cable. 2) I had to make 2 or 3 attempts at getting the second HDD bay to properly close and make the clicking noise. However, I'm not deducting any star for those as those were minor issues.

Have been operating this continuously since 2023 and now my unit has died. There are good and bad things about this. I will be focusing on the bad as i am pretty pissed that my unit which i had relied on for past two years just died. I use it for my home buisness storage. Though no data is lost but it is harder to access the 4 10TB HDD now. 1. Had the interface board diagnosed and tested with other unit the interface board that hosts the USB3.0 port is the one that just flat out died. 2. Looked for replacement chip but didnt had the firmware to program it back in. Bought at around 16,000 rupees so was a value for money until the product just stopped working. If anyone is buying this product assume a life expectancy of 2 years or so.

I have bought it to use as a periodic backup device, which will be hooked up to my home LAN once in a while for backups. My home LAN has a NAS device which is always online, and has a few TB of data. So I decided not to use RAID for this box, and purchased the model which does not have RAID. I have added two drives to it, each 4TB, and am using software RAID (via btrfs on Linux) to access the storage. I have created a btrfs file system which uses RAID0 for data, RAID1 for metadata, and I'll risk data loss due to disk failure because it's unlikely that both the primary NAS and this backup chassis will have data loss at the same time. I've started with just two drives because I can always extend my file system using the btrfs facility to extend a live file system. The power of Linux btrfs allows me to use this JBOD chassis with such flexibility. If you don't know how to manage a multi-device file system, then it's best that you buy the model which has RAID support. I found the chassis to be very well built. The chassis is heavy and the cooling fan is so silent that I can't hear any sound from it even in a quiet room. The drives went in and sat in their slots firmly, and the quality of the doors and trays, etc seem to be very good. The supplied USB 3.0 cable needs a type A socket in my laptop. I tried testing the write speed by writing 100+ GBytes from my laptop's SSD to the chassis. I got 16.8 Gbytes/minute, which is about 2.5 Gbits/sec, at the application level, given all the overheads of the Linux kernel and the single-threaded copy process. I think this is excellent speed for a disk array with USB 3. Overall, I'm very happy with the product if I want a JBOD chassis.

It's a basic raid array with very minimal management options. Uses a jmicron raid card and the management software is also mostlikely rebranded jmicron he raid manager. Am using with 4 wd red 4 tb drives and so far seems to be holding well.
