Excellent sound but poor implementation
Sound-wise I would give the Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2 a full 5-star. However, a few implementation issues bother me enough to sent me looking for another alternative.Pros :1) Sounds very good for a earphone in this price range. Beats everything I had before, from equivalently priced Sennheiser, to higher end Etymotic etc. My music (vocal jazz, pop, light rock, etc) sounds very lively especially with the treble filter.2) The swappable sound filters let you customize your sound.3) Very solid, indestructible aluminium body construction.Cons :1) The cable is so rubbery/chunky that it is literally impossible for it to drop nicely down from your ears to your phone/MP3 player in your pocket. It has to make turns and coil up in mid-air, hanging out and away from your body.2) The cable (again) is so heavy that it constantly tugs on the ear-tip if you are standing or walking. Using the cable clip will solve this problem but only works if I am wearing a jacket in colder weather. Using the cable clip with just a t-shirt is awkward.3) The swappable sound filter has a thread on the outside like a screw and it screws into the body of the earphone. The rubber ear-tip has a hole in the middle which goes around the sound filter snugly. The problem is without any sign, the subtle twisting action to seat the ear-tip into your ear will eventually unscrew the sound filter off from the earphone and the sound filter + ear-tip assembly will either get stuck inside your ear canal, or it will be lost. That happened to me twice, the first time with the ear-tip stuck in my ears (luckily the ear-tip didn't go all the way into my ear canal and I managed to pull it out) and the second time it fell off while I am not wearing it and now I've lost one sound filter and 1 small size ear tip.4) Now I am left with using another filter and moved up to a bigger size ear tip which doesn't fit well. I emailed Rock Jaw (the seller) for replacement (at my cost) and they never get back to me.I say if you are looking for a pair of earphone mostly for listening while sitting down in the comfort of your home or office, this might works for you But if you are using these earphone in your commute or you have to walk or run a lot, I will seriously consider the issues I have listed above before purchasing.

toss those standard ear buds. get rid of those iphone buds!
*note i have to preface that this review takes on a harsh tone for two reasons...1 the cord is horribly designed!2. everything i wrote is going to be compared directly to their hybrid, the Kommand, which is a far superior IEM..... soooo keep that in mind, k? this is a really nice offering, and if the cord was changed then you'd have a solid 4.The sound quality, while ok, does not outweigh the cord, which is heavy (this is where you get minus a HUGE star!) and does not isolate from the friction w/ clothing. it is very noisy. they supply a clip, but it seems ridiculous to have to use it, and the clip itself is of cheap quality and doesnt attach to things like zippers, shinny fabrics like a jacket, leaving it as a pretty useless attachment. the cord doesnt bend, so it is fairly intrusive. Look, if you can manage to tether it to a surface then go for it. with the clip there is only a bit of distortion. However, in the north we are always clothed extra warm, and those layers come off pretty often. the tendency to rip them from your ear is a chance i dont want to take! the ear caps don't supply any real noise isolation. you will most likely have to go with some comply substitutes. Even with a comply you will get some outside noise, but this is to be expected, because after all these arent noise canceling buds!I liked the kommands, but the over ear wire was too uncomfortable, but the Alfa isnt nearly as pretty in terms of sound soundstage, or does it give much girth to the music. It has very "hey you are listening to music in your living room" sorta feel. it is pretty flat, and the black filter just muddles the bass without providing anything of substance. this is the opposite with the kommand where the black filter provided a deeply intimate music experience. THAT SAID, the filters do boost the overall music, as the gold is sorta 'empty' and lifeless. I prefer the black, because while it is difficult to pick up any change, it does boost the highs and those little details (Test on anything Birdy sings). W/ bass you will find, say with Nostalghia - Homeostasis, a wider more engrossing bass. So, what i am trying to say here is that the treble and bass hike are really specific to different music. So, if you like bass music then go with silver, if you like folk/indie stuff go w/ black. If you go w. the black and pick up something like Rage Against The Machine, you wont get that raw experience. If you take on Elliot Smith w/ the silver you are going to miss that magic. So pick according to what you like to listen to, not that "well i think i may like bass more".The treble in general is a bit grainy, and smooth, crisp highs are jeopardized. It has adequate bass, but nothing noteworthy. The bass filter does give it some heft, though. W/ the filter the bass seems a bit muted, in the really deep corners of bass, and somewhat truncated. I do wish it was sturdy on its own (the gold, for example is so flat), which would support the 'natural' filter more. i would have rather kept my kommands and taken off the ear wire than get these, as the sound quality is pretty matched with any other company's similar product. a fairly sad offering compared to the kommand. In retrospect i wish i stayed w/ the Kommand and i implore you to check it out first before taking a look at this one.at this price point it is a decent IEM, however there are nicer plugs out there, specifically the Kommands. Actually when i say nicer i am only referring to their Kommands, because at this price point you WONT find better products. They are, no where near your typical grab and buy item, so i do recommend them before going to your local radioshack (if it still exists around you)... Before you go doing something stupid like grabbing an entry level Sony, or.... skull... candy (can barely utter the name), i beg you to check out this company and, if the Kommands arent in your price range pick this up. you wont be disappointed. casual users wont be disappointed!this company cares about the quality.... and it shows... these things are amazingly well constructed, light, and really feel like a high, very high quality IEM. the customer service is a rock star. it is a small company, and deserves the attention! plus, they are british; all american adore the brits!

Wow! Sound quality is amazing!
Bought these based on a Wired magazine review, and so glad I did! My Beats headphones finally gave out after 7 years of service, thought it would be easy to get a pair for well under $100 that would have good sound quality compared to that older tech. Tried a pair of well reviewed Sony ones from BB, they were horrible! Put the Rock Jaws in exactly as they arrived, and was blown away! Far superior to my old Beats. I saw some reviews about the build on these, they look and feel well made. As the people who did have issues seemed to get them resolved by the company, I went ahead. So far, my impression is that these are hidden gems from a company that isn't that well known yet.

Great when it used to work
For the price the audio quality in these were fantastic. I'm someone who looks for value in audio products and is constantly looking for finds like these. I would rate these 3.5 or 4 stars honestly if they were working when i'm writing this review 4 months after my purchase. I used them at work regularly and very gently. They started to disconnect randomly stopping play back on both my android smart phone and my iPod, this was frustrating but a week later it is causing noise and is almost good to call it broken. As the other review mentioned the cable on this one super thick and heavy, this kind of failure shows the low build quality and absolutely zero customer support. The customer support is only available in UK, may be the reason i'm not having any luck with them. Time to get back to my trusty old Shure(s) meanwhile

Excellent headphones ++++++++
Bought a pair of RockJaw Alpha Genus V2 headphones after reading a review on Techadvisor. For a pair of headphones that cost just over £30 these are truly amazing. Thsese are probably the best in-ear headphones I have owed so far. The sound is excellent even straight out of the packaging where some meodels owned previously needed to be "broken in" before the sound improved, it's not the case with these, although it does say that they require upwards of 20 hours of usage for best results (will update the review after). RockJaws were a replacement for my Sennheiser CX3.00 which cost around £60, and I must say its like day and night in terms of sound and build quality (the cable on Senheisers just below the earbud just turned into gum and started to come away from the core).One other thing I was impressed by is a presence of interchangeable filters, this is the first time I come across this technology, and I must say it is mindblowing. In the box there are 3 sets of filters Silver - for bass lovers, Gold - natural sound and Black - for increased treble. All of them have a rubber seal to protect the drivers from any moisture. Also you get 3 different types of tips; standard silicone tips in 4 different sizes, double layered, and memory foam in 2 sizes. Must say that memory foam tips are very good, they are comfortable and block out external sound.As to anything there are few bad points. 1 - I feel that the cable could be just a little bit longer and less bulkier (but then i suppose it adds to durability), maybe RockJaw engineers can consider a slightly thinner braided cables. 2 - The filters are skrewed in a bit too tight to be removed by hand and might require a pair of plyers to aid (maybe it's jut on my pair). But these are just minor engineering issues and they do not in any shape or form affect the amazing sound of these headphones.So if you are looking for a pair of inexpensive headphones these are in my opinion are the best choice. Hope we'll see more audio equipment from these guys.

Superb sound and lasted well so far...
Bought these 6mths ago, after much research and debate.Okay, so not the most expensive earbuds out there but certainly a reasonable outlay for many, when they often last only weeks or a few months.I've had these since May 2016 (now nearly 2017) and they look as good as new. I use them Mon-Fri for about 2hrs a day, on my daily commute. They have a tough main cable - quite chunky for in ear but means tend not to tangle and seem more durable than most. They come in a small (too small) velvet bag, which sufficed for a while but I nicked a bigger one from my daughter, which is better. The cable tends to want to be uncurled, so I use one of those magnetic cable tidies to keep it under control!They only have a pause/skip in-line control, which is my only disappointment as volume control would be good. I use an iPhone 6.SOUNDNow the other important bit...they sound fantastic! I've kept the bass 'tuning filters' in, that were fitted when they arrived, so can't comment on the others but they are excellent in my opinion.I listen to a wide range of music from indie (Knuckle Puck, Mooseblood and oldies like Depeche Mode) to classical and 'World Music' - all sorts of weird stuff! These headphones perform well with all styles of music, giving a warm and full sound, as the best way I can describe it. I can keep the volume down as the sound is so good and they insulate pretty well and fit in my ears comfortably with the original buds - albeit there's a choice of three others. They seem well made and haven't shown any sign of wear.All in all, very enjoyable and quality headphones for a very reasonable price and I've had many brands over the last 10yrs.

Some of the best earphones under £50!
These earphones are perfect for someone who wants to enjoy audio clarity, and a sleek and study design without breaking the bank.Pros:Sleek, study metal buildClean, good sound quality (neutral filter)Plenty of extra tips/accessoriesIn-line mic and media buttonCompatible with iOS, Android and WindowsCons:Lack of in-line volume controlDifferent 'filters' is more of a noveltyThe 8mm dynamic drivers provide a clean and crisp sound profile naturally, but can be 'tuned' through the included 3x pairs of tuning filters; bass, trebal and neutral. The two extremes tend to make the entire range slightly muddy, so I'd recommend sticking to the neutral unless you have a passion for treble or a lust for that buttery biscuit bass.The in-line mic is pleasantly loud and clear, and doesn't pick up too much ambient noise, great for taking a call whilst running or when you simply can't be bothered to reach for your phone.A single media button is alongside the mic, which acts as a play/pause, and a skip & previous button via a double an triple tap, respectively. When earphones have an in-line function button, it's fair to expect in-line volume controls also, but these do not have them. Although trivial to some people, the ease and convenience of being able to adjust the volume without reaching for the connected device is a must for others.Specs:Impedance: 16ΩSensitivity: 108+/-3dbFrequency response: 20 – 20000HzCord Length: 1.2MGold plated 3.5mm eight angled jackTLDR; the Rock Jaw Alfa Genus V2s are impressive earphones for the price, with study build quality and audio clarity that is more akin to pricier alternatives.

The best choice around £50, top sound and build quality.
Having used Sennheiser CX3.00's for the past year or so, I thought it would be hard to top the quality of sound combined with comfort and build quality offered by the Sennheiser's. After losing mine, I looked into highly-rated earphones under £50, which is where multiple websites recommended these earphones. The sound quality is incredible for an earphone. The lows and the highs are both crisp and don't suffer from muddiness nor clipping. They come well packaged with a plethora of different earbuds for all types of ear sizes and shapes. Changing the tuning speaker is incredibly easy - it simply screws in and out. The earphones themselves feel sturdy but remain light comfortable - the build quality is stellar and they look good to boot. The different tuning filters have a clear difference in sound. The bass one comes fitted as standard - the bass is deep but doesn't sound muddy and isn't overdone like other brands such as Skullcandy. The treble filter tends to be a little too high for my taste and music taste, but the difference again, is noticeable. The natural filter strikes a solid balance of the two, and works extremely well with a device that offers a custom equaliser setting. Will definitely be recommending these to anyone looking for earphones around £50.

Solidly built with decent sound.
Good headphones. The detachable 'tuning filters' seems like a bit of a gimmik, but there is no harm done.Solid bass on on the tracks that need it and fairly detailed high end for when thats more appropriate. Decent separation of the two when they come together.Comfortable fit with the provided tips.Very minor annoyance, the 3.5mm jack is at a right angle.These replaced some well used SoundMAGIC E10's, and although the E10's are probably better for sound the RockJaw pretty much keeps up. The build quality on the RockJaw is significantly better though. Having been through 2 pairs of E10's in as many years I'd hope these last longer.
