## Description

Product description

Review: Amazing stuff - Okay, so it's expensive, but worth every penny. I used this to make brush on molds of some costume armor that I had 3D printed and all pieces came out perfect. Pictured is the rebound 25 mold and the result of pouring/casting Vytaflex 20 (also from smooth on). With a 1:1 ratio, you won't need a scale unless you are using unmarked containers. I typically use disposable measuring cups, so I don't need a scale. It has a decent working time so if you needed it for a larger piece, you wouldn't need to worry about it starting to cure faster than you can work. There's a thickener called Thi-Vex that will boost the volume of the silicone mix so it's not as viscous and I typically use that for the final 1-2 coats as it keeps it from sliding off the piece. However, I accidentally found out that if I forget about it, take a phone call, make some coffee, sweep out the garage and then all of a sudden remember I forgot about it sitting out, it will start to cure in the container and depending on when I remember I forgot about it, usually I'll still be able to brush it on. But now, it's starting to really cure and I have to work fast. At that point, it doesn't drip down the sides of shaped pieces and I can pile it on to cover sharp edges and angled features that may not have been adequately covered. I do not recommend trying your luck with that, because I would have been in tears had I ruined 32oz of this stuff as it's quite $$$. I ordered the trial sizes until the gallon order came in. Recommend for ease of use and quality of product.
Review: Good enough for a first timer - This product was good, but intimidating for a first timer. My partner and I made Star Wars headpieces from this and they turned out great! We also used the pigment that was suggested and that was easy enough. Obviously this product makes a MASSIVE mess, so use outside on a nice day.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there a shelf-life for this product?**
A: I bought this in 2016 and only used a small amount to make a test sample. Last week (early Feb 2022), I used some of it in a 3D printed mold to test the viability of using 3D printing to make molds, using this as the casting medium instead of the mold medium and it worked almost perfectly. This was the first time the two bottles were opened since 2016. So although the RATED shelf life is about 6 months, if kept sealed in a cool place you may find it still usable as long as SIX YEARS later. YMMV, of course, but it speaks to the quality of Smooth-On's products that they remain viable for so much longer than they really should.

**Q: Is this product compatible with acrylic paint?**
A: Probably not. It's very flexible as a finished product. While you can probably paint it with acrylic, if the item you are painting is to be moved around or played with, the paint will probably flake off. This item would need to be "Colored" with silicone based pigments. The Rebound is naturally orange in color once mixed, so it will take quite a bit to cover the orange base.

**Q: Could I pour this into a plaster mold to make a soft casting of a footprint impression?**
A: Certainly! This would make that soft casting of a footprint very easily. Just remember it is orange in color, so if the end color of your casting is important you will need to add silicone coloring to the base before it sets up.

**Q: Can this be casted into a mold?**
A: It might work, but it is not a good choice for casting. It is very viscous, so it would probably trap bubbles , especially if you have undercuts, or anything strange in the geometry. However, every time I have leftover silicone in the plastic cup that I mixed it in, it always makes a perfect negative of the cup when it cures (including the letters in the bottom), so if you have a convex mold it should work.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Easy to use, goes farther than I thought it would.

I need about 50 foam skulls. I realized buying them is far less economical than to make them. So I used one rebound 25 kit to make a silicon mold of a simple skull. I probably could have gotten away with using 3/4 of the kit rather than the whole thing but it was my first time making a mould. I honestly questioned if one kit would be enough and was pleasantly surprised. I found the product mixed and spread easily. I used a thickener for all coats after the first one. I then made a 2 piece plaster jacket for it with some left over modeling plaster. Used some 2 part foam and was very pleased with the results! Update- decided not to stop with one skull. Used a total of 3-1/2 kits to make 2 whole skull molds, one jawless mold, one flat back skull and one jaw mold. I used a gallon kit of Polymer planet 2lb urethane expanding foam and on my first run got 29 skulls. There is a learning curve to both the mold making process and the 2 part foam. I feel like now I could do it all again with just 3 kits and get 35-40 skulls with a gallon kit. I’m making a massive catacomb like faux bone pile so I don’t need them super dense. This worked well and puts me at about $2 per skull when it’s all said and done.
