Why Did I Wait SO Long To Buy This!!!
I absolutely LOVE this scale - I don't know why I waited so long to get it! I've been getting shipping supplies from USPS & UPS - boxes, envelopes, etc. I wanted to get a scale they had on their site, but it only weighs up to 330 lbs, and was $73, and I couldn't justify the price for what I'll use it for. I decided to try Amazon - and well...this is almost exactly like the scale on the USPS website...there's quite a few differences...making THIS purchase very easy! The Price for the Smart Weigh - better then any other scale I've looked at! Weight - I can weigh in KG, G, LB, and LB AND OZ! Battery - I can use a 9V Battery OR use the USB. It also has Manual or Auto OFF! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that there's a cord with the LCD Display - I can put big boxes on the platform and not have to bend down with flashlight and magnifier <HA!> to read it - I just pull the Display to me and boom! I also LOVE that this scale works on Tile AND Carpet!! I weighed a box of tools on our Tile, and then on the Carpet and I got the same reading. This is a well made, durable scale that should last me a very long time as long as I take care of it. I got this for 1 reason. I used to blow glass, make glass beads for jewelry, and ornaments for Christmas Trees <although people just wanted them for windows too!. I am a 100% Disabled Veteran and broke my neck and back while on active duty. I got very sick in February and they just diagnosed me with a rare cancer in my lung <not from smoking>. SO~ I have to stop making anything with glass, as there are teeny tiny particles you breathe in when melting glass...even using a mask. I have at least 750 pounds of glass rods in my studio - that has to go. It sure helps to have a scale to weigh boxes that contain glass like this because it is VERY heavy! In all honesty - this is the only reason I bought the scale. BUT!! I can use it for traveling - YES!! I can weigh suitcases before we even leave the house. I was once truly embarrassed when I over-packed by less than a pound - but had to dig and dig to take out something to bring me under...all in front of "everyone" standing around or checking in. UGH!! But no more! For the $35 I spent on this scale - when I'm done I can store it in a desk drawer, or my filing cabinet until I need it again. I use Paypal, and when I make a sale....I package the items <I use Flat Rate Priority>, weigh the box <Flat Rate Priority does have weight limits..I think 70 pounds- but I've never gotten 70 pounds in a Sm,Md,Lrg Flat Rate box...yet!>, pay for and print a shipping label...then take my boxes to the Post Office and hand the boxes over! I have yet to pay any additional money - the boxes all weight the same as they did at home using this scale! I am so happy with my purchase of this Scale. In reading a lot of the reviews - I can see this company does have great customer service which I won't hesitate to call should the need arise. All in all - I absolutely recommend this Scale, and the Seller! I didn't receive any discounts or free stuff. I pay for my purchases!!!

good, accurate, been using since 2021
I've had this for nearly 5 years, it's been great. Very durable, very accurate, and having the separate display has been invaluable for weighing large boxes. I've also taken to using it to weigh myself, and it works great for that too. I wish it had a backlit display, but the display is pretty readable. I've used it with 9V battery and also with the included USB cable, works great with both. It's very well made. It does need to be sitting on a smooth flat surface: I ended up getting a piece of wood to put under it. The coiled cord is a little strange, and doesn't seem to add much value. If you were to actually stretch the coils very much I feel like it would apply force to the platform and could affect the reading. It could be a little longer, it's just barely long enough to have the platform on the floor and put the display on a desk. Another 12 inches or so of length would really help.

I’ve had this scale for five years now and it still works perfectly, weight is accurate AND on its original battery!

Great scale! Big screen & battery operated .
Overall this is Very good scale! Quality is great, the cord is pretty long & the screen is big and easy to read. It takes a 9V & It has a port which I assume is for a direct power option. I plugged a universal power supply and it didn’t power the unit up. I didn’t really look into it afterwards to see if it’s a special power supply or something . It’s very durable and I can weigh my big items on it. I did notice for some reason the scale is 2 oz off. Every time I weight a big item a bring it to usps or ups they say it’s a 2oz so now I just calculate 2oz difference every time I ship out . I tried to calibrate it but it appears it didn’t change anything. Not a big deal when your shipping items that are like 10-20LBS

GREAT SCALE for 5 OUNCES and heavier!!
I chose this scale after looking at many on Amazon, and reading the negative reviews. Most of the brands and models had a fair number of individual items with SERIOUS issues, where they became completely non-functional or grossly inaccurate very quickly. With this one, most of the negative comments had to do with not being useful under 5 or 6 ounces, even though the description AT THE TIME I BOUGHT IT said its minimum was 2 ounces (it now says 5 ounces). I figured this was the lesser of the evils, since I expect most of what I will be weighing to be heavier than 6 ounces. I tested this scale with a dozen items that I first weighed at both FedEx and USPS. These included 3 sizes of books, 3 and 8 pound dumbbells, small and medium canned cat food, a can of Perrier, a glass paperweight, a CD and a DVD in their cases, and my cell phone. The FedEx scale was in pounds and tenths of pounds; the USPS in pounds, ounces, and tenths of ounces. Not surprisingly, these two "official" sources were in close, but not exact, agreement. Converting the FedEx measurements to compare to USPS, I found that FedEx ranged from one ounce lower than USPS on the 8 pound dumbbell, to .6 ounces higher on a 7.5 pound dictionary. On smaller weights, they were closer together. Each was high half the time, and low half the time. They were only in exact agreement on the paperweight, at .5 pounds. All of this helped me figure out how much "wiggle room" might be acceptable on my scale, reading in pounds and full ounces. I am very pleased with how it compares. It was a bit light on the dictionary: .1 pound vs FedEx; .8 ounces vs USPS. It rounded .7 ounces down to zero ounces on the 3 pound dumbbell, vs USPS. Every other time, it correctly rounded the tenths of ounces that USPS had, and matched the less precise readings from FedEx. The lightest item my scale could read was 6 ounces (I did NOT have a 5-ounce item). However, by placing the 8-ounce paperweight on the scale with lighter items, and then subtracting its weight from the readout, I found the scale to be quite accurate. It gave a weight of 2 ounces, compared with USPS at 2.8 ounces, on the DVD in its case, but every other time, the rounding was correct. It always matched the less precise readings from FedEx. I will probably weigh the first several items I ship on "official" scales too, just to be extra-sure of its accuracy. I currently plan to use this scale for low to very low volume on-line selling. I've placed it on a shelf in a very solid bookcase, so it won't need to be moved or jostled. Ideally, I should get it a dust cover. I'll keep my list of recorded weights, and re-test the scale now and then. And I'll update this review if there is ever a problem or issue with the scale.

Third one
I had one of these for about 2 years and it always worked great. I would check it's calibration with weights on occasion and it was always on point. - this applies to my first two. After about 2 years the first scale just sort of stopped working, I think I had damaged the plate tot the point where the circuitry was effected, not blaming the scale (see below) as it isn't an "industrial" piece. The second scale stopped working when a friend of mine was weighing out a keg (strongman problems) and "dropped" it on the scale and bent it, and it no longer worked again not the scales fault (see below). I have only currently had this new and third scale for about 2 months (I think) and so far it has been just as reliable and has survived some fool leaving it out during not one, but 2 thunder storms...it was me, I'm the fool... One thing I would recommend is putting something rigid and flat, like a 2"X6" over top if you are weighing something that could potentially bend the metal. For the portability, ease of use, and overall durability, when you treat it right, it is a great scale.

FIRE HAZARD RISK | Faulty Electronics Burned In Battery Compartment
I'm very disappointed to rate this scale as 1 STAR because other than the electronics, it worked well. 1 STAR is purely for the FIRE HAZARD RISK I experienced with this item. I purchased this item new from BetterBasics (via Amazon of course) in June 2018, so I've had this scale for about 11 months. Upon arrival, I followed the instructions for start-up which stated only the 9V battery is required for operation; however, the scale did not turn on with just the battery. Eventually I discovered the scale would only operate with both a battery and being plugged into an electrical wall outlet using the provided USB cord and my personal wall adapter. Thus, right from the start, the electronics were functioning incorrectly. I removed the battery and USB cord this month for a move. When I set-up the scale again, I plugged it into the wall first. Then I remembered the required 9V battery so I unplugged the scale, inserted the battery, and plugged it into the wall outlet. In a matter of seconds, my family members and I detected a burning smell emanating from the battery compartment. I removed the battery and placed the entire scale and components outside to cool off and later installed a new 9V battery without using a wall outlet. The battery began to warm and the burning smell began again--both increasing rapidly. After removing the battery, the compartment cooled. This was SO HAZARDOUS I decided to just THROW AWAY the scale and all its cords. No exterior burning was visible, but the wires were definitely burning from the inside-out! To give the manufacturer the benefit of the doubt, the electronics didn't burn until after the scale had undergone the move during which it may have experienced hot temperatures in the moving van that could have corrupted the electronics. Aside from the electrical issue, the scale arrived packaged nicely and was very useful for weighing e-Bay packages. For the past 11 months, it worked without trouble except for the odd power configuration (battery + outlet). I found the sensing accurate, although, it didn't sense very, very light packages (usually didn't sense less than one ounce). The display was large and clear. Overall the scale was easy to use. Again, 1 STAR just for fire hazard risk!

Great for the price
The product is perfect for the price, and it works great! It's not super heavy duty, so I'd be nervous putting anything really heavy on this scale, even though it claims it can go up to 440lb? The bottom is plastic and the metal top part feels like if you dropped it, it would dent fairly easily. But again, I think this is a great value for the price. It came with a cable to plug it in if you don't want to use the included battery. Great display, buttons mode options, etc.. Overall a good value and purchase. I would buy it again. The only negative I had was that I had some trouble getting a non-damaged scale... for some reason the first time, they mistakenly sent me a returned scale that looked like someone jumped up and down on it and then tried to grind a curb like a skateboard with it. lol.. It had obviously been damaged, resealed, and sent back. The replacement one came in it's regular box inside a shipping bag with no protection other than the manufacturer's box and shipping bag. Since the bag and manufacturer's box wasn't enough protection, one of the metal corners were dented in on the scale, so I sent that one back and reordered (because by now Amazon only gave the option to refund and not replace). The third one was also just shipped in it's manufacture's box inside a bag with no other form of protection, but thankfully the carrier didn't drop this one too hard because it was just fine and seems to be working great. I don't like when people give a product a poor rating and review based on their experience of shipping or something outside of the product it's self. If I was rating shipping protection, it would be poor, but they shipped the replacements extremely fast and I probably had it within two days.. so the fast replacement helped redeem the experience a little.

Eccezionale
