Lots of brightness options, good visibility when camping
I love this headlamp. It is really powerful on its highest brightness setting. Just be cautioned that if you leave it on the brightest setting, the battery will drain quicker. That is compounded when the temps are cold. But I think this is something you’ll encounter with many of the headlamps on the market.I have taken this camping in Yellowstone, in my neighborhood, and have also used it to search for bugs or for hunting. It is multi-purposed and has great longevity. Just pack some extra batteries.

Great headlamp!
Second black Diamond I’ve purchased. First one lasted 7 years and I’m not easy on ‘em! So far this one has been great!

Really good, but not as good as older version
I've purchased 8 of this style of headlamp in the last 10 years (3 person family -- only replaced when lost or damaged by dogs! Never had one wear out or break.)I like that it has 3 colors of lights other than white. The diffuse light is great for looking at what your working on. Nice bright spot for distance or scanning landscape. Easy to adjust brightness. The battery compartment is not as functional as the older version. More fragile plastic on the clip -- here's hoping it doesn't get brittle in winter! The release to pop the last battery out really doesn't work in this version - you need to pry the last battery out with something. It might be fractionally lighter than the same headlamp 4 years ago, but I'd s keep the weight for the working battery release and quality compartment clip.I'm not sure yet if I prefer the 2 button v. 1 button on/off/dim/change color switch, but it has 2 and works fine. Also, versus the older version -- the strap is not 100% secure to the body as it was in the older version. You can take the light off the strap. Also means you can have the light fall off the strap. I don't know how, but that happened for me in the first week. So, 4 stars because they changed some things that I don't think were great choices compared to the older 5 star versions.

Better than the older version Storm -- Update: Broken after 3 years
I use headlamps when doing home repairs, not outdoor active pursuits. For my needs, the Storm works great.I bought the 400 to replace a 5-year old Storm. (I think it was the original version with 250 lumen output and white and red lamps--no green or blue. That headlamp was working perfectly until it died of corrosion from leaking Amazon-branded batteries that were nowhere near their expiration date.)My older version had an incessant high-pitched coil-whine when the light was on. This one is silent. It's much brighter at it's max setting, as expected. I always had to use my older Storm at the highest setting while I don't with the new one.The biggest improvement is the second physical button to toggle between the lamp colors. It's much more intuitive than using multiple taps of the same button to toggle color, brightness, and flashing. I never need anything other than solid white, but I would sometimes inadvertently toggle the red or start the flashing and have a hard time getting it back to white with my older version. This user experience is much better. The one thing that is a step back from the previous version is there is no longer a pad on the inside of the headband where it contacts the forehead. It's slightly more uncomfortable to wear for a long time and leaves an indentation in the skin from the plastic.Overall, I'm pleased. The build quality of my original Storm was great and would have gone forever if the batteries didn't kill it. Hopefully this new version will prove just as good over time.UPDATE 11/30/2024:My 3-year old Storm 400, which is used 100% indoors for home repairs and doesn't even go outside, is no longer usable due to a tiny plastic piece in the casing that broke off. This piece is critical for positioning the headlamp and without it, the lamp flops downward and doesn't illuminate what is directly in front of you. This is now the third Black Diamond headlamp that I've had that has broken and I think it might be time to move on from this company's products.

One of the best headlamps Multi use
I’ve been using the storm 400 or three years and I will not change, even though it does not have USB rechargeable, it’s the only headlight to get that bright, very easy to use and you can use red green or blue light for emergency. I like the fact that I can use it for FISHING, I can easily use the side and tap for high beam back to low beam. It’s been constantly durable. I can drop it. It’s one of the best ones out there.

Satisfied customer
Perfect for camping. The various light options are useful and appreciated. Headband is very comfortable and easy to adjust. Feels lightweight on my head unlike some others that have actually given me neck pain. This brand is quality.
