Both the soap with its oils and the salve darkened the leather but not too much. The salve itself goes on smoothly, was readily absorbed by the leather and had a pleasant fragrance. A little does go a long way. After letting it dry and buffing off the excess both shoes looked great. The leather looked nourished and smooth, and the old cordovan brogues came to life. I followed with a treatment with the Otterwax leather oil and allowed that to absorb. Honestly these shoes didn't really need wax after that. The tan shoes lightened up after a day or so but remained supple. The old shoes got a good waxing and look great. Now they clean-up well and take waxing readily.
