Great new theme
It's been a long time since I purchased a film soundtrack. I remember a time when you could always tell where the soundtrack section of a record store was as there would be a crowd of young men around it (who would quickly disperse if a group of young women came in!). Sadly though since the beginning of the 21st century it appears many composers and musicians have run out of ideas, and following Cliff Richard's contribution to the end of the millenium have simply decided to re-use old songs and themes (adding extra beat and a little rap here and there). However Rambo 4 is an exception. In addition to the original Rambo theme, it has it's own completely new theme for the film which is great. The new theme is perfect for the background setting in Burma. After watching the film I decided I had to purchase this, problem is, why so difficult? None of the high street stores stock it. I ordered this from Amazon and I'm glad I did as I get the feeling it may not be around for much longer.Don't assess this by the ten second previews on Amazon - they are very poor quality compared with the actual CD.

Rambo - The Brian Tyler Music Score
Having listened to Jerry Goldsmith's stunning music scores to First Blood / Rambo First Blood Part 2 and Rambo 3 for many years, it was with some hesitation that I loaded up Brian Tylers take on the movie franchise. The very first track kicks things off perfectly. "Rambo theme" takes the key theme from First Blood and re-introduces us to Rambo using Goldsmiths's original music blended with Tyler's interpretations and ageing. Lets face it, its 20 years since Rambo 3 so tracks 2 to 18 reflect the new age film that is Rambo 4 aka Rambo and they are mostly very good and suited to the new film.Tracks 19 and 20 round the cd off well, again bringing in Goldsmith's signiature and familiar tune.Anyone who enjoys the Goldsmith music score's will thoroughly appreciate this cd and find it a must to add to their collection.Brian Tyler (and Sly) should be given credit for this score, as he had huge shoes to fill, after Jerry G.Rambo music fans ... go for it, the 80's revival is here !

Goldsmith still propping up mediocre composers from beyond the grave
I know I've said it before but I still cannot believe that Brian Tyler, a composer who first came to my attention with the wonderful Bubba Ho-Tep score, could so quickly turn into a hack churning out 'noise' scores for trash movies such as The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift and the inarticulate, bombastic sounds of Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. What a disappointment this obviously talented man has turned out to be. Or was the music of Bubba Ho-Tep merely a fluke?Living up to Jerry Goldsmith is no easy task even for a vetran, so it puzzles me why Tyler should receive that honor above everyone else. Think of how good the score to Rambo would have been if Chris Young, James Horner or Alan Silvestri had been hired. I'm afraid to say that, as it is, the only good parts of this CD are moments when Tyler more or less directly cut and pastes portions of Goldsmith's work from First Blood. What little melodic input Tyler uses from his own imagination is sadly generic and forgettable. Also, while he's strengthening his own sub-par music with Goldsmith's why did he choose to leave out the absolutely brilliant main theme from Rambo: First Blood Part II? I can just imagine that theme being used to great effect in the finale when Rambo seizes control of that massive gun and lays waste to the bad guys. Each of the score CDs from the first three movies have signature sounds and themes in pretty much every single track. Unfortunately, aside from the occasional cue containing the wonderful Rambo theme, this CD is mainly filled with more of the tiresome action 'noise' that is so commonplace in film-scoring these days. There's hardly anything memorable about the new material on this CD and I recommend it only to Goldsmith or Rambo fans.

「No Rules of Engagement」や「Rambo Returns」はパワフルで聴き応え充分。

A powerful score for one intense film!
When the 2008 Rambo movie came out I eagerly looked for the soundtrack CD and unfortunately could only find it as an expensive import. Fast forward a few years later I decided to go ahead a finish out my Rambo movie soundtrack collection and this was the last one that I needed. I was glad to see that Amazon finally had a copy of it at a decent price so I went ahead and ordered it. Jerry Goldsmith's themes for Rambo are among some of my favorite in movie scores. I've always found that the music for Rambo was so fitting of the character. Heroic with a sadness that separates Rambo from the common man. Musically, it tells the story of a man who has seen and done things that many of us would not want to do. Aaron Copland wrote a piece called "Fanfare for the Common Man" and I guess in the Rambo theme Goldsmith gives us a "Fanfare for the War Vet". The music often makes me think about and appreciate even more the great sacrifices of our military.Brian Tyler is given the opportunity to step in for Goldsmith and I think he does a fine job. He weaves Goldsmith's themes throughout the score but if you are familiar with Tyler's work, you know he also has a distinctive style of his own. Stallone would later use Tyler for the "Expendables" films and you can hear the similarities with his "action music" when comparing the two. The 2008 Rambo movie is a very intense film and I loved it. I had my doubts when Stallone decided to make another one but upon watching it, I was impressed. I just watched it again last night before this score arrived this morning. With such an intense movie, a score to match the action is needed. Tyler does an impressive job with these cues combining sounds and percussion that fit the jungle warfare action of the film. There is a lot of percussion in this score and it really does a wonderful job of amping up the intensity and action. It never becomes an issue of the composer just generating a lot of "action noise" either. The music supports those action sequences very well and becomes fun to listen to in the process. Tyler's score takes a break when needed to give us those beautiful Goldsmith themes as well. He handles each one of these moments with the upmost dignity. These cues become the symbol of Rambo as a man and Tyler's own personal touches/arrangements of these themes are done quite well. My favorite piece in the score is track 18, "Battle Adagio". The musical term "adagio" refers to a piece being played at a slower tempo. This piece is the one where Rambo looks down from the hill over the battlefield at all the devastation. It's a victory over the evil that he has fought throughout the movie and the heroic treatment with this graceful tempo, full orchestra, and choir will give you goosebumps!Tyler is certainly no Goldsmith, but I think he handles the iconic composer's music well while adding his own signature style into the mix as well. In the CD liner notes, Tyler comments on his and Stallone's desire to remain true to the Goldsmith themes and insert them whenever they could. I think they did a good job in doing so. The CD is produced by Silva Screen Records and contains 20 tracks totaling 1 hour and 17 minutes of music. The liner notes include pictures from the film and a brief note from the composer. The liner notes open up into a small movie poster of the film. This is a great score and fans of the Rambo movies should pick this one up too.

One of the best movie scores!
This is one of my favorite movie scores ever! It's my second favorite score from the Rambo movies behind Rambo: First Blood Part II. There is not a bad track on this at all. Brian Tyler's music feels very fast-paced, intense, and action-packed as well as sad and emotional when it needs to be. He uses Jerry Goldsmith's music and adds onto it in a great way.My one very minor issue with the movie is that the tracks are not in the order they occur in the movie. For example, one of my favorite tracks, No Rules of Engagement, which is the track during the fight at the end of the movie, is the second track on the CD. That being said, it doesn't bother me too much.Rambo is my second favorite movie in the series behind Rambo: First Blood Part II and the score helps add to it. If you are a fan of the Rambo movies and like the music, then this is definitely worth adding to your collection!
