I bought the 1500VA (non expandable) unit to maintain two Ubuntu home servers during brownouts, short blackouts, and if necessary properly shut down the servers to protect the RAID array data. So far the unit performs as expected. My twin servers draw about 200W average load which gets me 20 minutes run time plus 3+ minutes reserve for shutdown. My only disappointment is in the software. Tripp Lite only provides power management software for Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux Distro's. However, I seem to have found a replacement with Gnome Power Manager which makes the Server think its got a laptop battery. However, there is a delayed response time when the critical battery level is reached and when the Server actually shuts down. For me, the ~30 second delay is no issue, but if your running 900W and only getting 3 minutes out of the UPS, then that could be a problem. I don't think this justifies docking stars as I'm a specific case, but I just want people to know who may find themselves in the same boat as me. Best, Austin

Where to start. First of all, the price isn't bad compared to other rack mountable UPSs out there, especially for a recognizable name brand. It also has a large battery for the price. And the unit comes with a nice big display that can be detached and rotated. But that's about all for the positives and where the rest of it all falls apart. You get what you pay for. Cheap price translates, in this case, to a UPS that runs a noisy fan constantly, and simply put, you roll the dice if the UPS decides to stay on when a power outage occurs. Yes, this UPS will, more often than not, randomly shut completely off the moment the power goes out. I've read other reviewers that experienced the same issue, so I know it's not a defect, but rather a feature. And no, it's not overloaded. I am literally only powering a managed network switch. This UPS is capable of running a full computer and monitor too, but it is built to shut off when power goes out. Before I experienced my first power-outage, I called Tripp-Lite's tech support to inquire about the fan noise because it made no sense that it would have to run all the time and especially during a light load. But they assured me that the noisy fan that constantly runs is also an immutable feature of this UPS. Ok, the noisy fan is one thing, but if I knew the UPS would not keep my equipment running when the power went out, I would have looked elsewhere. I am honestly done with rack-mountable UPSs, and this one in particular. This is the first, and the others from other brands just don't have enough run-time, and the cheaper ones don't seem to turn back on automatically when the power is restored (another desirable feature). So I am switching to a UPS that sits on the floor. They have longer run-times, no noisy fans, don't randomly shut off when the power goes out, and come back on automatically when power is restored. What more would anyone want in a UPS?! By the way, more recently I did follow a tutorial online to replace the fan for an ultra-quiet model, and that helped a lot. But the fact that this unit shuts off during a power outage more often than not is reason enough for me to give up on it and look elsewhere.

I'm out of this top rack in a 12U. This takes up two which is required because of how heavy it is because it has two batteries in it it's really heavy in the rack mount configuration. It does have battery access in the left side but you have to take it out to service the battery so keep that in mind. If I can find some rear support for it I will I think it's a little too heavy for just the front mounts. Everything powered up just make sure you hold the power button for three or four seconds and don't push it momentarily like I did thinking there was something wrong... It should power what you see in the rack without any issue. The display cycles between voltage incoming outgoing, runtime battery percentage, load percentage and battery percentage , runtime in minutes and the bottom has a battery capacity bar. I should not have to look at this UPS again for 3 years. If I do I will report back.

I bought the Tripp Lite SMART1500LCD rack mount UPS to protect and power my system, and so far it has been running everything with no problems. The performance has been solid. It handles my setup well, and I like having the extra backup power and protection instead of trusting everything to the wall outlet. For a server rack, network setup, home lab, or AV equipment, this feels like a useful piece of equipment to have. The rack mount design is nice because it keeps the setup clean and organized instead of having a bulky UPS sitting on the floor. The 8 outlets are useful, and the LCD screen makes it easier to see what is going on without guessing. The build quality feels solid, and it seems dependable so far. Setup was straightforward, and once installed, it just does its job in the background. That is exactly what I want from a UPS. For value for money, I think it is worth it if you need backup power for important equipment. It is not the cheapest thing, but protecting expensive electronics makes sense. Would I buy it again? Yes. It runs my system with no problems and gives me peace of mind.

I have asked for recommendations from equipment manufacturers and often they point to APC units, mainly because of cost. Since we were putting in a new transmitter at our site, I wanted a truly rack-mountable UPS, rather than have to have a shelf put in and then run the unit laying on its side. The APC units have had reports of reliability problems for a couple of years now, and being a student back in the 80's, I was able to work closely with Tripplite to get schematics for some of their products and found their designs were always solid and well thought out. The fact this unit is built specifically for rack mounting, made it a natural, and Tripplit's reliability is needed for a UPS that will be tied to a transmitter memory system and filter the power for the rest of the equipment in the rack. Even though it cost a bit more, I just felt it was a better choice. This unit a very heavy, you will need help mounting it in a rack, or mount a shelf first to hold it for you. You'll want to be sure you mount it toward the bottom of your rack to make sure the weight doesn't make you rack top heavy. The fact that it's heavier than an APC unit tells me more about what I want to know about the build quality. Granted, replacement batteries are bit expensive, but if the unit holds up in lightning and heat-prone situations at a tower site, it will be worth it. If you're a pro and can't afford a Ferrups, the Tripplite will do. We've had ours in service since February of 2023, here it is August and there's been no issues with the unit through the heat of the summer. Granted, the truth will reveal itself after a few years of operation, but for now, it's been rock solid. We've purchased a second one for a second transmitter install.

A decent UPS that needs a version update. I bought one of these because it was in the right price point of being (relatively) affordable and rack mountable. Unfortunately, I was unaware that this UPS was notorious for issues with the USB microcontroller and compatibility issues with management tools like NUT, resulting in the connection constantly dropping and reconnecting and my Proxmox system log being flooded with errors even after 2 days of configuration troubleshooting. The final nail in the coffin was when I plugged in the USB cable and it immediately dumped the load, rebooting my network and server. If Eaton could take this product and fix these issues, it would be an amazing value, but as it stands I just don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

Nice unit, here is a couple observations: * It's not a 100% online unit. Maybe I missed that in the description but it's not clear. * It has a fan that runs all the time. It's not loud, but it's not silent by any means. Not good for your studio or office. * When the power is out and its making power, it's noisy buzzy, annoying on top of the alarm. Sounds like a Tesla coiling arching away inside. We will see how long it lasts. Most of these low $$ units die in less than 2 years, Leaving your computer dead even when the power is on. Not so ideal.

Súper servicio el de PCEL, me llegó rápido y son muy atentos. Un excelente precio, el equipo cumple con lo detallado. Me agrada que a través del display se conozca el estado y rendimiento del equipo. Lo uso en casa para el centro de entretenimiento y ha ido muy bien. En posición vertical luce perfecto. Actualización: es 2021 y no ha requerido mantenimiento ni cambio en la batería. Entra exacto al momento de corte eléctrico. Para que tengamos una idea, están conectados a este UPS, pantalla 55”, home theater 5.1, subwoofer adicional de piso, PS4, blu-ray player, teléfono inalámbrico, disco duro externo. Todo ello probado y funcionando al mismo tiempo. A veces con un portátil también. Sigo muy satisfecho con el producto.

Assembly was pretty straighforward, mounted in the rack without much issue. My only real complaint is that the fan is extremely loud. In a noisy server room this likely wouldn't be an issue for most people though, but I have one of them in my house for the switch there, and I don't think I can keep it because of the noise. So 5 stars for performance, deducting one for the loudness.
