cutie pie
A cosy foodie book celebrating how Amanda got her boy friend to be here husband , its like sex and the city but with recipes instead of smut . I enjoyed it , just as I enjoyed the key west food critic books . This isn't street food or hipster town . Amanda can be a terrible snob and she is obsessed with butter yet I did like the kitsch pictures and little bits of info about her life . Its magazine writing rather than Pulitzer journo style .

A great curling up in bed cook book
This is more a collection of magazine articles with recipes than a conventional cookbook. She is passionate about food and trying new things and it's a good read. The white bolognese is the only recipe I cook regualrly from it though.

This is perhaps my all time favorite book. Hesser's writing is a thing of beauty and I continue to read and reread this throughout the years. If there's a "comfort read," this is it for me.

Great book
A bit of a sense of humor plus recipes plus prose... You really get a look inside the head of a food critic, and how she lives and thinks. Amanda Hesser is such a gifted writer, and this book is really personal.

One of my favorite cookbooks
I bought this book three years ago and I never get tired of reading it. I have cooked several of the recipes and have rarely been disappointed. Most of them actually turned out great, like the chocolate dump-it cake, the vanilla beans loaves or the salmon and lentils dinner. This really is one of my favorite cookbooks.

Delightful book
When you just look on the recipe index it may seem not much of an interest, but when you start to read it - it so much more and it's enrich anyone interested in the Art of Cooking.

Great recipes, entertaining story
I think the best thing about this book is the recipes at the end of each chapter! Every single one that I have tried has become a household favorite and my friends demand copies of the recipe. The story is fairly entertaining with some nice anecdotes. I was especially interested to learn about the life of a food critic, which was completely new to me. However, if you're looking for great literature, this isn't it.

Good, light reading
If you are looking for an easy read, try Amanda Hesser's year-in-the-life. She writes of her courtship to Mr. Latte and includes lots of food talk along the way. The recipes are a good addition, and most of them are not too complicated either.

Utterly forgettable
If I could give this boring, humorless book written by a snooty chef who is not above belittling her boyfriend for his taste in food negative stars, I would. Even the recipes aren't worth mentioning. I'm sorry I spent money on this.

Don't read this book when you're hungry!
I am so glad I bought this book in spite of the negative reviews I read. I loved every page of it. The story was fun, honest, and engaging, the descriptions of the food were sumptuous, and the recipes look incredible - I can't wait to try them. I will definielty recommend this to all my "foodie" friends.

Yum!
This is the sweetest type of book: Words about food and the recipes to go along with them. Delicious and funny!
