Do they cause the metal on the side of the box to flange out and move forward to catch the back of the sheetrock ?** A: Yes. That is what they are intended for. I used my electrical box to catch the back of plywood but I’m sure it would work the same way with Sheetrock. **Q: Do the flanges get in the way of the knockouts on the side?** A: The flanges are removable. Take off the screw, knock out, then reinstall the flanges. I had no problem. I installed 2 side by side. Old construction 1947 mortar walls. **Q: Could I connect two of these vertically rather than side by side?** A: You will have to space them far enough apart to put 2 covers on as they don’t make a double cover in that configuration **Q: Will this work with 3/4” thick drywall?** A: I think so, I installed one in a wall with 1/2" drywall on top of lathe & plaster and I feel like it could have been even thicker. I've also installed one in wood that was at least 3/4" thick.
