How do you measure hand width to get the right size?

My hand is 4 inches from index to pinky at the base of fingers and 8 inches from bottom of palm to tip of middle finger. I ordered xl, they fit well not to snug not to loose. Also the magnets that retain the covers back are a big upgrade from the normal velco style although they will stick to the drum of your clothes drier.

The picture shows a glove with no thumb flap. Does the current version have a thumb flap?

The pair I got two years ago have thumb flaps that are separate from the ones that covers the four fingers.

The size chart says "Hand Width". Is that width with the thumb or just the palm?

Carhartt sizing chart says to measure from the crook of where the thumb meets the hand across the top horizontal to the knuckles to the other side about an inch below the pinky

Are these the Carhartt A557 version that has full thumb coverage?

It does have thumb coverage, but with the option of pulling the thumb tip back by way of a magnet.
