Hairy Maclary Story Collection AUDIO CD

This CD is a straightforward reading of the Hairy Maclary stories by David Tennant - who it turns out has a very charming broad Scottish accent.My 18 month old son loves Hairy Maclary and all of the books, and on our last holiday we decided to record all the stories ourselves, so we didn't have to travel with the books. Unfortunately, we can not do the justice to the recitations that David Tennant does, and as much as we now try to read them in a Scottish accent, we fail miserably.This CD provides us with a bit of a reprieve from reading the stories and entertains our son perfectly. It runs for around 20 minutes (despite the indication it is 30 minutes on the cover). I look forward to an edition on Slinky Malinki, Scarface Claw and the unsung hero of the Hairy Maclary series - Miss Plum.

One of a growing collection of audiobooks which forms part of our kids' bedtime listening. We also have the paperback book collection which we used to read to them at bedtime before getting this CD... so they recognised the stories... sort of...David Tennant has an excellent reading voice but his accent threw the kids a little at first. Probably didn't help that I used to read it to them in the style of Brian Blessed... yeah, 'weird' you might think... but the kids liked nothing more than me blasting out "HERCULES MORSE AS BIG AS A HORSE!" like Prince Vultan...An enjoyable collection though, so recommended.

I looked everywhere for this version (read by David Tennant) and am delighted that this came into stock. I was kept informed of when it may do so (when I ordered it, it stated that it would be a while) and it ended up arriving before Christmas, which was a bonus as the estimated stock arrival date was further on. Wonderful stories, read in a charming way by one of our current great character actors. Great value for money and a "fab find".

A single CD, nothing extra in the case i.e. art work etc.Good stories for young children.The stories do rattle along a fair pace, you would struggle to follow with a book.The stories change with a chime, a heart beat later the next story starts.This story CD is more for listening to in the car or at bedtime.Some say David Tennant is unaudible, yes he does sound "extra" Scottish but is very clear & almost soothing...My little man loves laying in bed with this playing him to sleep, after reading a bedtime book together this is like a bonus for him.A pretty decent CD story set, we like it but it'll never replace the Gruffalo!

I love this and contrary to what other people have said in reviews about how fast it is read, I think this is done to perfection. Maybe not the best for following along with the book, I haven't tried, but certainly the style of writing wouldn't work with pauses between pages, as the rhyme often follows through between pages, so it would lose it's natural rhythm and flow (the most appealing and educational part of it)!!I love the fast-paced story-telling and it is perfect for the car!

Given how talented an actor he is I expected the audiobooks to be livelier than this, they don't really have sound effects or any magic to them like a lot of other audio books do. My son hasn't wanted to listen to them again despite loving these books and loving his other audio books.
