I Cant believe I love these shoes
This is my 2nd pair of these shoes and I thought I would leave a review. Ipurchased the first pair in 2017 for my work as an airline pilot. My shoes are exposed to caustic Skydrol hydraulic fluid, de-ice fluid of various types and jet fuel, not to mention routine doses of standing water when I'm out inspecting the plane before flight. I previously wore trusted brands like Bates and Thorogood but usually only got 2-3 years of service before the sole being completely trashed. I toyed with re-soling but found these Rothco shoes for 1/2 the price of having my old shoes re-soled. Of course I expected a short lifespan given the $40 price in 2017 but I have been shocked with the durability of these shoes. 6 years of constant use and the soles have hardly any wear! (reference photos 2017 shoe on left and new shoe right). The uppers are starting to crack so its time to retire them with the same shoe as replacement. Note: they are listed as leather uppers. At first I thought that was a fib but now I think they are leather with some sort of vinyl overlay. Not sure why. The uppers are somewhat dull when new but accept a shine very easily and hold a shine with just a brushing, no polish at all. They are stiff and will require breaking in. All in all, a great value for the money and very durable.

cheap leather
I got these for the occasions I do American Legion Ceremonies. I do not like office suit style shoes. These are sort of a cross between a duty boot and a shoe. The tongue of the shoe likes to rub the top of the foot oddly, not comfortable. The leather is Chinese crap, it wrinkles oddly when the shoe is flexed, indicative of the junk leather from China Ive received in the past that cracks or peels.

I didn't expect this.
Had to have black work shoes in a hurry for a new job and my go-to brand of Docker's Shelter were out of stock in my size, so I ordered the Rothcos reluctantly.I've had a couple experience with other Rothco gear items over the years, and always found them shoddy. These shoes were a pleasant surprise. The look great (better than the photo on the listing) and they were comfortable from the minute I put them on.I did pull the padded insole out and replaced it with GI ventilated insoles because I prefer them. I've worn them for a full week and have put at least 15 miles on them. The job requires lots of walking on concrete. They have excellent foot support and the soles show only the slightest wear. They have developed a slight crease on top that looks right. The toe still has a good shape. They are a matte black in appearance, but the leather looks like it could take a shine if you wanted.Super value for the price. If I only get 6 months out of them, I'll be completely satisfied.

Perfect for the professional
I work in 'Close Executive/Celebrity Protection' and am not a fan of wearing dress shoes with my suit as they don't offer the ability to sprint or move the way I like in a tactical situation (not that things get crazy or anything). The Rothco Oxford offers a professional look with the ability to move with better ease that a traditional dress shoe sole does not offer. Comfort is average and can be stepped up with addition of a quality cushioned insole.

How long do you expect a pair of $50.00 shoes to last while working in a kitchen? Mine have lasted 20 months of near daily use!
First of all, let me preface this review by saying, I am a Chef in a commercial kitchen and these shoes slip-resistant sole works well in a wet an oily environment. I purchased them in December of 2013 and they have been worn 6 days a week every week since. They were a bit tight and stiff at first (bought a 12R) but were broken in in no time at all. They have served me well and they are about $10.00 cheaper now than when I first purchased them. They are advertised as having leather uppers; if that is so, then there is a very thin veneer of leather over something else. Having said that, I need to replace them because the shoe uppers are now cracked and peeling and allow my feet to get wet. Not a pleasant experience...blisters tend to develop in a wet environment, even if I powder my feet. If you are not in a wet and greasy environment all day, these shoes will definitely do what you need them to do! Even if you work in a damp/greasy kitchen, you can't go wrong for $40.00.
