So I was seriously doubtful I was going to pass my LMSW test first try because I have a strong clinical background, but have never worked in the traditional social work environment. But I passed by A LOT on the first try after only using this book. I found the practice test book to be extremely helpful because it thoroughly explained why the correct answer was correct, and why the other answers were incorrect.

I am planning to take my LCSW exam later this year, and so far I have found the study guide to be super helpful. They have some helpful study tips included in the info section. Much better way to study than to go through every single textbook and review them all. I also like how they include the practice exam, which is equivalent to the actual exam in terms of content and number of questions. Definitely recommend.

This book has been really great. It hits all the important spots for someone who has been out of school over 12 years. Feels overwhelming at times but love the online support that's breaks up the mundane.

It's nice that the guide is in the order of the ASWB KSA study guide.However,this book has several issues that ultimately WASTED MUCH OF MY STUDY TIME.1. It's very wordy... often, a sentence is reworded and restates the concept that was said in a previous sentence, or two similar sentences could have half the words removed and combined to make 1 concise sentence. A study guide should be clear and efficient.2. SO MUCH OF THIS BOOK IS COPY PASTED FROM THE NASW PREP MANUAL! IT'S NOT CITED - IS THIS EVEN LEGAL? Much is verbatum the same, whereas some parts it's the same sentence structure & words but Apgar added in extra words, making NASW's efficient, straight-forward sentence into multiple cluttered sentences. However, Apgar failed to include a lot of important terms & concepts from that NASW guide... WHY spend this much money on a guide that essentially REMOVED a bunch of helpful info and simply reordered the information?!3. Much is extremely vague... Yes, some topics you only need background concepts, but as someone who is on my 3rd level licensing exam, I know there is plenty on the exams that require you know terminology and specific models. Furthermore, many sections DON'T FULLY ADDRESS THE KSA TOPIC (e.g. the section for KSA "progress evaluation techniques" provides a general background on what progress evaluations are but doesn't actually include 'techniques' (as the KSA states), so in order to actually study the KSA you STILL NEED TO USE ANOTHER RESOURCE! I needed to refer to my older study guides to cross-reference and fill in the gaps (but, should I need to do that for one of the most expensive guides on the market?).4. It's poorly edited / reviewed - not only grammar issues (which many people probably don't care about), but there were a handful of word slip-ups (some of which didn't matter, but some of them were TERMS, which are critical to be correct considering the purpose of this book).Needless to say,save your moneydo the NASW prep course which will provide you with concise, clean/clear, informative prep manual; granted their guide is not in the same order as the KSA list, it provides much more information where it matters and it's not cluttered with unnecessary words

I used this to study for my lmsw exam and combined with pocket prep app. Dawn Apgar’s book It is straightforward and to the point. As a matter of fact a couple of her questions were on my exam. I highly recommend this product I will be using her LCSW book in the future!

The practice tests and explanations were pretty helpful. But beware: the “app” it was talking about was just an electronic copy of the book you already have, not access to the paid version of the pocket prep app.

The book was helpful for studying and I completed the practice questions and exam. The content included was representative of the content on the LMSW exam. I passed the exam on the first try!

The book itself was an excellent help and digital codes worked without a hitch.
