An approved textbook at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since first publication, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an indispensable guide to the magical beasts of the wizarding world. Muggles who have seen the eponymous film or read the Harry Potter novels will be familiar with some of these beasts – the Niffler, the Thunderbird, the Hippogriff ... This new paperback edition features the recently revised 2017 text, which includes six curious new creatures that inhabit the North American continent, and a new foreword from Newt Scamander that sheds fascinating light on the events surrounding a serious breach in the International Statute of Secrecy which took place in New York in the 1920s. This paperback edition features gorgeously shimmery snakeskin detail on the foil effect jacket and line illustrations throughout by Tomislav Tomic. Newt Scamander’s masterpiece has entertained wizarding families through the generations. Witches, wizards and Muggles of all ages will delight in discovering the extraordinary habits and habitats of magical beasts from across five continents. Review: There's a thiefs curse in it so buy it - Good book for potterheads for knowing the different kinds of beasts Review: A must have book for all potterheads - As Professor Dumbledore declared in the foreword that “no wizarding household is complete without a copy of this book.” So I wasted no time and got myself a copy at Flourish and Botts! My very own duplicate of Harry Potter’s copy and I enjoyed it a lot especially Professor Dumbledore’s foreword! You only have to read a part of his foreword to be convinced to read the book. But what I enjoyed even more were Ron’s, Harry’s and Hermione’s scribbling on random pages of the book. Just a few samples: “Harry loves Moaning Myrtle” (Bahaha!) ”The 1965 Ban on Experimental Breeding has made the creation of new species illegal.” ---> “but no one’s told Hagrid.” I’m pretty sure it’s Ron who classified ACROMANTULA with 10 X’s. (Lol!) Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the result of many years research and discusses at some length the definition of the word 'beast', and indeed which creatures may be categorised as beasts. Also covered is the ongoing Muggle ignorance of magical creatures. Clause 73 of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy is explained as reason for magical beasts being in hiding, and there is also information about how that is done. Disillusionment charms, memory charms and the Office of Misinformation all have a role to play. What then follows is an alphabetical list of fantastic beasts, all of which have been classified according to the Ministry of Magic as belonging to one of five categories: * Boring (Although Newt in the film would never describe creatures as boring which this book does, the character was fascinated by all creatures.) * Harmless and may be domesticated * A competent wizard should be able to cope with them * Dangerous and requires specialist wizard knowledge * Known wizard killer or impossible to train or domesticate There's everything from Centaurs and Flobberworms, to Kneazles, Nifflers and Wampus Cats. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a book for every Harry Potter fan: read it from cover to cover, browse and learn more about the magical universe, and refer to it as you read the Harry Potter series, or watch the movies.

A must for the young budding Wizards!:)
I bought this book for a student of mine. She just started her first year in Hogwarts and Prof. Dumbledore's Recommendation is that each student have a copy of this Newt's well documented book about beasts. This is a well written and useful book for the young budding wizards! I also have a low edition copy of Mr. Harry Potter's copy of the same book, it's fun to read with the scattered scribbles of Potter and Ron here and there:)If you can read my comment then you are not a Muggle!:)

100% Original
Not a pirated version—the detailing on the cover and the quality are proof of that. It came well-packed in a box. A definite must-have if you're a Potterhead who loves collecting everything published in the Harry Potter universe!

For the fanboys....
Firstly, let me say that the book was received on time. The book itself, I feel, is for the hard core fans of the Harry Potter franchise. You have to be a fanboy to love this book. It will look good on the book shelf. You seem to breeze through the book without adding anything from the experience. I finished it in an hour and so did my son. But tell you what, the kids MAY love it. Buy it, will look good in the collection.

The most fascinating encyclopedia!
I've seen many people complaining about this book and comparing it to the other Hogwarts library books. This book received the lowest rating out of them but I don't see why? This book is an whole encyclopedia about the fantastic beats which are written by J.K. Rowling but in the accent of Newt scammander as in the movies. This book is totally different from the movie and it doesn't has a story but fascinating and exciting things to explore more in the wizarding world including dragons, nundu and many others from the Harry Potter series itself! This book is the one I've received some far in 2022. The thing that makes it more exciting and interesting are the illustraitions. J.K. Rowling has done a perfection in creating these creatures. Overall: The best encyclopedia with The Fantastic Beasts

A good brief encyclopedia
I bought this book because I wanted to practice my English and also learn something more about the Hogwarts universe. It's very important to say this is not the movie book but the compendium of all animals that appear in the movie.

Exceptionally well written
Well done Newt Scamander! This book contains all the intricate details of a muggle encyclopedia, with a concise introduction to beasts that gives you a brief history of beasts, and some information as to what animals are classed specifically as 'beasts'. Following this introduction is an A-Z of beasts - many that have appeared countless times in the 'Harry potter' series. It is clearly set out, and will amuse both young witches, wizards and muggles as well as the older generations! This book is excellent for an avid reader wanting to stay immersed in the wonderful world of Harry Potter. The scribblings in the pages by Ron, Harry and Hermione make the read hilarious - a recommended buy!
