Vic Firth Signature Series -- Dave Weckl

These have been some of my absolute favorite drumsticks for many years! The original Dave Weckls are the perfect all-around drumsticks! With a mid-range length, diameter, and taper, they offer exceptional feel while producing crisp, clear sounds on the drums. As a drummer, I’ve played through a lot of sticks, and the Vic Firth Dave Weckl Signature Series has become one of my absolute favorites. These sticks have an incredible balance—light enough for finesse, but with enough weight to cut through when you really dig in. The taper design gives them a quick rebound, making fast patterns, ghost notes, and intricate hi-hat work feel effortless. The tip shape delivers a clean, articulate sound on cymbals, with just the right amount of shimmer for ride patterns. They also hold up well under heavy playing—I’m impressed with how durable they are compared to other sticks in the same class. What I really love is how versatile they are. Whether I’m laying down a groove in a jazz combo, hitting accents in a funk set, or pushing the dynamics in a rock tune, these sticks respond beautifully. They’re clearly designed with a pro’s touch, but they feel natural and comfortable for any drummer. Through the decades I've gone through many brands, styles and sizes of sticks from all manufacturers. These by far are the most balanced, comfortable 5A sticks for acoustic or electronic drums for me. The barrel head design rebounds nicely especially on my Yamaha DTX-Pro XP-80 & XP -100 silicone drum heads as well as my PCY cymbals.

Great sticks! I have been used to playing 7As and got these for Christmas. Now I hate going back! These Wreckl's are dipped in paint instead of the usual bare wood or lacquered. This gives it a nice feel and looks clean too. Perfect weight especially for fast drumming or soft playing. The tip is basically a round barrel shape instead of the common tear drop which I feel like it brings out a warmer tone that isn't so bright. Others might disagree, but these are definitely my new favorite sticks!

I bought many pairs of this model back in 1991 - enough to last me until very recently. It is a model that I have used primarily for funk/fusion, because I really love the rebound & balance. The current incarnation of this model has been improved by leaving the paint off the tips (I always hated marking up my drum heads with a new pair of Weckl sticks.) The new finish is quite attractive & seems to be more durable than the old lacquer-covered stain. The pairing is exceptional - the sticks sound exactly alike within the pair. However, these sticks are a bit thicker & considerably heavier than the older version. That has a noticeable effect on the balance & rebound. There is nothing wrong with the sticks, in general, but they are not what I was expecting & I'm not in love with them. I'm currently searching for a replacement that will give me balance & rebound comparable to the old Dave Weckl model.

Been my fav for several years. Surprised how durable they are. The nylon tips stay on. I wear them down to almost pencil thin before replacing. I play mostly classic rock.

They’re a go to in my stick bag, used them for years. The stick has a straight barrel and tapers only at the shoulder. This makes it easier to find a sweet fulcrum spot. Vic Firth makes good quality sticks and with Weckl’s endorsement on these even better. The stick is a little bit longer which takes getting used to. Awesome product.
