Tiny, overpriced, but cute. hospital cage or temp. home only.
i initially tried to order the old design, but I guess they stopped making it, which disappoints me. When I received my box, My first though was that is was tiny. When I was assembling it, I was simply stunned at how small it was. people, a foot by 8 inches is not enough living space for any normal mammal! I am using it as a hospital cage for my old mouse who is bullied and must live on her own. She doesn't move much, but an active mouse would go neurotic in there. forget any kind of hamster, except as a travel cage. It's not really worth the price, with it being as small as it is. You can buy a much bigger cage for the same price.I dislike the new design, the old one looked much nicer without those ugly yellow clips. And those clips felt like they would rip apart when I stuck them over the cage corners. The way the metal gets put together leaves gaps in the corners- the mouse can't get out, but It looks like she could if she tried and it doesn't look as good as it would if the corners matched up. The metal roof sits on top of the clips, and has hooks to hold it down, but it's easy to get the corner of the roof caught under the clip, making it a place to escape from. The wheel is also too small. It is made of crappy plastic and was hard to snap together on accounts of I though it would break. There is a gap between the colored part and the white part that could catch a mouse toe and break it off- unsafe! I though the ramp was too little, too, though mice are so small that they can use it. A hamster would not be able to fit. It is a bit too short to put the shelf as high as I'd like, and it takes up a lot of space. And I wish the food bowl could be placed in any corner- not just one. I do really like the water bottle, it is super easy to take off, fill, and for the mouse to to drink from.I am also very unhappy with the clear plastic doors- the one on front makes it very difficult to actually see my mouse in there. The hinges are so loose that I had to tape it on to keep the door from falling off as I open it. The material of the door is very flimsy, feels like it will snap every time I push down on the latch to open it. Bite-proof? Are you kidding? If the animal in there is going to bite the metal, he will bite anywhere else, but he will just eat through that cheap plastic like it is nothing. The door holes are also puny, meaning my hand can barely get in there, none the less pull out the house (which is on the bottom area).I rate this cage as poorly made, tiny, and over priced. However, it was easy enough overall to assemble. It is sort of cute, and works well enough for my little mouse or as a TEMPORARY home. If you have this cage, I recommend flipping the shelf upside down so it is more of a walled-balcony which is harder to fall off of if you are a little critter. If you do that, you can put the wheel up top, too, and put some bedding up there to catch poo/pee. that leaves more room in the bottom.
