A Flour Alternative, Non-GMO, Allergen-Free - Best for Coating & Thickening (See Photo)
"Bona Dea" is a play on words that mean "good idea," this is one of them. It's always a challenge to come up with a non-wheat flour that will do what gluten wheat does -- especially stick together. We eat (almost) exclusively organic food -- still difficult to go 100%, especially if you are going to eat at friends' homes, or restaurants. But we do our best! We have an organic veggie garden and orchard, and most of what we eat comes out of those. One of us is pretty much gluten-intolerant, so we have extensive experience with wheat-substitute flours. There's a reason for going gluten-free, and a trade-off. Most substitute flours just don't make bread, for example, as well as traditional wheat flour -- and that's to be expected. So we did not expect This "all purpose flour" to be exactly like wheat flour -- and that's a good thing, because it isn't.What it does do well: it's excellent as a base for dusting fish and poultry for frying. We would say, it's more akin to rice flour than many other types. It served well as the basis for frying wild-caught (Trader Joe) purchased sockeye salmon (see photo). We sprinkled some on a plate, added good quality mined salt, and organic spices, chopped, from our garden. We fried it in coconut oil with a little butter (both organic) -- delicious! It also did well in other recipes, for thickening sauces. In our opinion, those who said it didn't taste good must have been doing something different! As a baking flour, however, this sorghum-based flour didn't do as well. It does create a grainier, more crumbly result. It does better making cake-like recipes than bread -- which really benefits from wheat's gluten properties. But then again, those of us who are using wheat substitute flours know that they do not perform the same as wheat. We're looking for the best alternative. IF you use this Bona Dea flour for what it's good for, and add other organic non-wheat flours to your pantry, you'll learn which ones work best for what.Another thing we appreciate about this company is its commitment to non-GMO -- bravo! It's also free of the top 8 allergens -- wheat of course, milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts and soy. It's made in an allergen-free facility, and the company has a high commitment to transparency and excellence. Kudos for all that, and we know it's not easy in a world as loaded with chemical riddled, herbicide and pesticide-laden so-called "food."Recommended.

I Gave it 5 Stars, but Please Read what I have to Say Before Making a Decision to Buy or Not
Bona Dea Gluten Free All Purpose Flour, 16 Oz, Pack of 2. First of all, I give this product five stars, even though I did not get the exact results as I do with regular flour. I still give it 5 stars, because the product can't help it that it is gluten-free, and it is gluten-free for a reason (whatever reasons people need gluten-free products). I realize that some people cannot have or do not want gluten; therefore, we have to use whatever products we have, and they might not always be the same as the regular product.I've had gluten-free pasta before (not from this company, though), and I didn't like it. It was rubbery. For someone who needs or wants to be gluten-free, I guess they have to experiment to find things they do like. Now, back to this product. I do cook a lot, which I love to do, and I love both following recipes and making my own. I tried two recipes with this product. The first recipe was quinoa sweet potato cakes. This sweet potato main course turned out good. But there was only a small amount of flour that was used in this recipe, and it didn't play a major role; therefore the sweet potato dish was great and everything turned out good. The second recipe was the cake recipe I've made a zillion times. I felt this recipe would be the true test, since lots of flour is in this recipe. And also because I've make this recipe so many times, and it always turns out good. However, with this gluten-free flour, it did not turn out the same. There are two factors that might be the reason: 1 ) Just because it is a gluten-free flour instead of the regular flour I always use, and 2) Because I use vinegar instead of eggs for the rising, I don't know if that had anything to do with it. But not to worry - the cake will not go to waste, as it will get eaten. And this flour will not go to waste. I will keep experimenting with it, and I will find plenty of uses for it. I will mostly concentrate on recipes that do not call for much flour, and the success rate might be higher.Anyway, this is a good product. Even though the cake wasn't exactly the same, it will get eaten. And we can't expect for things to be exactly the same when we use a different product. But I am sure there are lots of recipes that will be good with this flour. I can't wait to make my pizza dough and apple pie crust and sauteed veggie patties. Maybe I should have done that before I wrote this review. But I can update this review after I make those.

Bona Dea Gluten-Free All Purpose Flour 16 oz.- Two Pack
For people that must eat gluten-free the search for a good wheat flour substitute, often seems on-going. Creating a customized mix is time consuming and can have mixed results.

As Good as Regular Flour!
I have never used this brand before but have used gluten free products before because of my delicate stomach and was pleased with the results.

Good for recipes that call for flour in smaller amounts & for thickening gravies and soups
I think for Gluten free flour, it's great. It comes in a resealable bag, and it is a very convenient size.

A little different kind of flour
Seems like a decent enough whole-grain flour for coatings and quick breads. I'm not sure I'd try to use it for regular bread, and it definitely won't work for anything where white...

Nice All Purpose Flour
I'm always on the look-out for a good all-purpose gluten free flour that is more than just rice flour and starches.
