Reliable WiFi 6 Upgrade with Great Features The ASUS RT-AX3000 has been a rock-solid upgrade to my home network. Setup was straightforward with the ASUS app—within minutes I had it configured and running. The WiFi 6 support really makes a difference; multiple devices can stream, game, and video call without slowdowns. Coverage is excellent across a two-story house, and even the backyard gets a stable signal. I appreciate the thoughtful extras ASUS built in. Adaptive QoS lets me prioritize gaming or streaming when needed, and the parental controls are simple yet effective. AiProtection, powered by Trend Micro, adds an extra layer of peace of mind against security threats. I also like that it’s AiMesh compatible, which means I can expand coverage in the future without replacing the router. One small note: while performance is excellent, the unit does run a little warm. Not a big issue, but something to keep in mind if you place it in a tight space. Bottom line: A fast, reliable, and feature-packed router that’s a great choice if you’re ready to move into WiFi 6 and want excellent coverage with built-in security and expandability.

FREAKING AWESOME !!!
This thing if freaking AWESOME !! More than adequate for my needs, and I think there is some actual alien technology at work herein !!! I have Xfinity Broadband @ 400, actual getting about 505 down at this Router, setup was flawless, must reboot Router several times for some of the settings I chose, not a problem with it's 4-core processor - reboots are fast. EXTREMELY versatile and configurable with MANY attributes that were not available on other Routers I examined. As far as it's power and capability it rivals the "Sonicwall 350" we have at work BUT provides FULL BANDWIDTH and THROUGHPUT to each port even with all the Security features active... the Sonicwall 350 only allows about 350Mb throughput but with this Router I am getting in excess of 1200Mb connection rates to my laptop and Speedtests show nearly the same in Browser as the Routers built-in Speedtest !!! EVERYONES biggest complaint about their routers and connection is they "don't get download speeds in there browser that they are paying for", but most people don't understand "overhead" in bandwidth issues and don't buy an appropriate speed router to be able to provide said speed. For me and my scenario - THIS Router is the MONSTER and beats several others I have tried that all said they could do something but ended up NOT being able... I must add that I tried a "Refurbished" version of this Router and it was madness trying to get it setup and it caused many problems with my Servers and remote connections... the vendor, Azusa-IoT, was gracious and very communicative regarding return and refund, their Customer Service efforts were fast and refund happened within an hour of them receiving the Refurb unit at their location. So there is DEFINITELY something wrong with that REFURB unit. The difference in cost was only about $40. The difference in frustration level and blood pressure increase was PRICELESS !!!

Router to get For Control BDV
PROS: Fast, Thrifty Price, Easy fast reboot, Logs for both network wired and wireless connections. Helped me identify why my paperwhite 7th gen kindle was loosing battery so fast. WiFi and wired connections are super fast. AI to help with router management is nice. Really like that interface to router is not a pay for subscription like some other router companies. CONS: Could have a smidge stronger signal, but both 5GHZ and 2.4GHZ work fine in my house. Will not take as long passwords as my bricked nighthawk did, also have to use the same password for both wireless channels. Yes I'd buy this again and recommend to friend. Especially since it has dropped $20 since I purchased it only a few months ago BDV UPDATE: 5/4/2025 I'm still liking this router. My only complaint so far is that the router does not clearly identify attacks against it. There are days that it is lagging and a reset fixes the problem, I don't blame the router but my poor internet provider that offers zero protection from router attacks. That said today I finally found the way to set my router up to reboot daily, this should improve my performance as I won't have to remember to do so daily. It would be nice if there was a PDF available with all the configurations explained for this router as there ar plenty. It isn't like love this router. True test will be this summer as Heat and Routers do not mix well. Time will tell.

Great management interface, good WiFi range but need some help for entire house coverage
OVERVIEW: Good router, fantastic management interface (can use web interface or phone app), good range, fair price, solid warranty, great reputation for hardware updates. Somewhat complicated set-up, watch out for MAC setting during installation. Range not as good as Netgear Nighthawk (R7000/AC1900). If your house isn't too big, this router could provide enough coverage for the home and would be worth considering, especially if you'd like to upgrade to WiFi 6. For a large home, I suggest considering a Mesh WiFi networking solution instead. DETAILED REVIEW: I was using a Netgear Nighthawk before this ASUS RT-AX3000. I gave up on the Nighthawk after the latest firmware update from Netgear AGAIN broke the Nighthawk. After the update it was patched against FragAttack but then my router had to be rebooted every 1-2 days or WiFi would stop working. Or is that the purpose of the patch.. break WiFi so you can't be hacked? After having had firmware updates break the router a number of times before (last time was in December of 2020, right around Christmas - applied an update, broke router, had to factory reset, install firmware update and then reconfigure my entire network, which took about 3 hours; I have a complicated setup), I decided to try something else. I had always heard of ASUS so did some research. This router meets many of my requirements: WiFi 6 (so my newer devices could benefit from the added speed), professed good range, reasonable price and good reviews. I also think ASUS has a great reputation when it comes to reliable and frequent firmware updates. Additionally, ASUS offers a 2-year warranty for routers in the USA (it may vary in the rest of the world, not sure). This is twice as long as Netgear's basic warranty (1 year only), so I felt confident in this router choice. Received the router, and it took a while to install. ASUS's quick installation doesn't allow you to update the MAC address/clone the MAC originally registered with the internet provider, so at first I was getting a RED internet connection light. After digging through the config (which I could only do AFTER ASUS setup finished), I found the issue. I then updated the MAC address using the "MAC Clone" feature to match what my internet provider has registered for my account. Still didn't work, so I had to call the internet provider and they had to unlock my account as they saw the wrong MAC trying to connect (they thought someone was hacking my account). After 15 minutes on the phone, finally, the ASUS was on the internet. Now,I could test it! I live in a large home and received signal everywhere, except one side of my house on the lower floor (about as far from the router as you could get). Also, very weak signal at the front door. The Netgear Nighthawk was able to provide fair coverage to these areas, so I was disappointed my 7-year old Netgear Nighthawk R7000 provided better coverage than this brand-new ASUS RT-AX3000. To correct the coverage issue, I used a WiFi extender in that hallway near the front of the house (D-Link range extender, WiFi 5, nothing fancy). This now provides coverage to the far side of the house, but it was a bit surprising the ASUS didn't provide at least the same amount of coverage. I was expecting more for a brand-new router, as it had been 7 years since the last upgrade. CLOSING THOUGHTS: If your house is small (perhaps up to 1700 square feet/2-3 bedrooms/1 or 2 stories), this router may be powerful enough for you. Anything larger than that, and you may need to use a WiFi extender to help the router provide WiFi signal everywhere in the house. For larger homes, rather than try a router like this, it would probably be better to consider a Mesh system. I have been reading reviews and will likely try a Mesh system next time. I like ASUS - good company, great product, fantastic management interface/website to manage the router. Those things are way superior to the Netgear experience (which has less warranty and a terrible web interface, very slow and frustrating to use). So if this router has enough power for your house, I say give it a try.

Perfect for our 2,800 sq ft home
Our house is one story and 2,800 sq feet, and the RT-AX3000 covers it just fine even though by necessity we have to place the router at one corner and not in the middle. Our internet connection is 200 megabits/sec. We don't care about getting more than that anywhere in the house. They recently upgraded everybody in our community from 50 to 200. That is why I wanted a new router. Some reviews I read criticize this router's range and recommend it only for homes under 1,800 sq feet. I guess if you've got faster internet connection than ours or care about maximizing local computer to local computer speed, then maybe you do need to spend a lot more on a router or get a mesh system. In our case the RT-AX3000 works great. I'm glad I didn't spend $300+ on a "long range" router or a mesh system. The ethernet drop from our community’s internet provider is in our son's room which is at one corner of our house. This is not an optimal location for the router (except for him). We get a solid 200 megabits/sec on 5GHz in the office which is 40 feet away. We get this on both a newer Dell notebook with 802.11ax and an older MacBook Pro with 802.11ac. We also get a solid connection on 5GHz to the Roku in the master bedroom which is a bit further away from the router. With my iPhone 6S on 5Gz, I get 200 mbits holding it next to the Roku. Our old router was a Netgear R6400 v1. With the old router the best we could get in the office was 100 mbits. Our daughter's room is on the same side of the house as our son's room, and her speed went from 160 mbits to 200. With 5GHz I can get 200 mbits/sec on my phone near the game consoles in the living room and also out on the patio. The worst speed I measured inside the house was 60 mbits in the farthest corner of the house from the router. This corner does not have line of sight through internal walls to the router, and the signal has to pass through two exterior walls to get there by line of sight. Our house is made of concrete block. I also tested 2.4GHz using my phone. The best I can get anywhere is 100 mbits, and 5GHz beats it everywhere I tested except when I go the furthest corner of my yard which is about 113 feet from the router. There I get 13 mbits on 5GHz and 20 mbits on 2.4Ghz. 5GHz works better every place I would ever use any device, so 2.4GHz performance doesn't really matter to me. Our old Netgear router was fine until they upgraded us to 200 megabits. The RT-AX3000 is fine now. I see no point in spending any more than necessary on this type of thing. Update: I recently had the opportunity to test the 5GHz signal strength using an iPhone 12 Mini. With that phone, I was able to get 149 mbits/sec in the far corner of our house where I could get only 60 mbits /sec with my iPhone 6s. This is the place where the wifi signal has to pass through two exterior walls by line of site.

Fix my CPU bottleneck when going to gigabit fiber, mostly
This review is going to concentrate on WAN and CPU performance, there are many reviews on WiFi performance, but that was not my issues, and there seemed to be scant information on WAN/CPU performance. Quick tip, of all the Asus features, enabling QoS is way and above all the other features with regards to the extra CPU power it will take once you enable it. AT&T BGW210-700 in passthrough mode - PC plugged into LAN port on AC1900 - best speed I ever got was 180 - 320Mbps. Also, when running speedtest one of the 2 cores would max out at 100%. Disabling some of the Asus threat preventions features would increase the throughput. For example, disabling QoS would give me a 20Mbps -30Mpbs boost, if I then disable the traffic analyzer, got another 10-20Mpbs boost, and so. And ran these tests many times over different times and days, and it was very consistent. This led to believe that my throughput was CPU limited, and time for a new router. The first AX3000 was pretty much DOA, lights would come on, but it would do nothing, so returned. Several months later I thought I'd try again, and this time it worked without issue, and now I'm getting 900-930Mpbs without any of the features turned on, when I enable QoS and the such it does still drop, to around 380-480Mbps. Also, with no features enabled, when running speed test, 2 of cores go up little, 10-15%, and the a third core goes up to 50%. I then enabled QoS etc, and 1 core is still between 10-15%, and the other 2 cores go up to 30 -50%, so some capacity there. The extra power in the new CPU, higher base frequency and more cores and fixed my bottleneck. I have around 70 devices in our 2700sq ft home (I have extra APs around the house), security cameras, VMWare servers, kids with phones, tablets, etc etc, so a busy network. I wanted to preserve all the static IPs I have and Asus made this simple, I exported the configuration from the AC1900, and then imported into the AX3000, rebooted, logged into BGW210-700 and assigned the new target MAC address for the passthrough and of it went, easy peasy.

Great router for a home office.
Works perfectly, was easy to setup with the phone app., runs the network for my printer, scanner, two laptops, and my phone for my home office.

failed after 6 weeks
Worked great for the first 6 weeks and then it died. I bought it as part of a black friday deal, I don't know maybe it was a re-furbished piece of garbage. I don't believe in re-furbished items it means it was defective to begin with and I am paying for something to be new and work. I set it up easy in March, nice app, easy interface, pretty much plug-n-play, good strong wifi signal no issues with setup. After a month, intermittent internet connection issues and slowness. At 6 weeks nothing worked. Performed troubleshooting with ISP to confirm it was not them. They saw a strong stable signal going to the router but the router was not pushing the signal to the other devices. Ironically the wifi worked but the two PC's hardlined into it had no internet until I bypassed the router. Worked with Asus support who just had me reset the device a couple of times and then said I needed to RMA it so they can troubleshoot. I asked for a new one and of course was denied because it's outside the 60 day window meanwhile it's brand new and doesn't work. So they plan on sending me back a re-furbished item, which I bought new but was probably already re-furbished which is why I do not buy re-furbished garbage. It either works or it was not manufactured correctly. Period. This replaced a previous Asus router I had already owned for 6 years without a hiccup. Never an issue it just got old and slower and I needed an upgrade. Big mistake. I ended up going with a Netgear Nighthawk for now and if Asus sends me back this one, it will be in the closet as a backup unit. I will not say not to buy it because my previous Asus product worked great for a long time, it might have been this one item but I read other reviews more recently this has happened several times. Works and then just stops. So buyer beware you might get a good one or lemon.
