Rings nicely. Yes, the clapper looks like a common hardware nut. But it works. The wire that holds this nut can open and the nut can fall off. But it was easy enough to solder the wire closed: you can unscrew the top of the bell - the stem comes out easily and then it is very easy to solder. One reviewer stated the clapper loosened and was hard to wire it back in place as the bell is narrow. But again, it can be unscrewed easily and fixed easily.The edges around the bell were a little sharp - I had to round it off a bit w a sandpaper disc. It is not sharp enough to cut you, but it can scratch a wooden surface (floors, table tops).But for the price, it is a decent item.

This is a pretty good bell for the $5 I paid. Yes, the handle can screw off but so what? It doesn't come off on its own so I am fine with it. The ring is loud and distinct; we can feel the small sound vibration in certain rooms. It is like the phrase when something "rings out" - this bell definitely rings out. The bell ball is golden and solid. Could the ringer connecting the ball to the handle screw be better? Sure, but it ain't the worst I have seen. For a $5 bell, this is a fairly sturdy bell. It'll do.It sucks that some had such a bad experience. Maybe the company learned from past mistakes or the bad experiences were just flukes. Regardless, I would recommend this bell to anyone looking for a sturdy enough bell for a decent price.

This bell was bought to use on a child's toy riding firetruck. It was exactly the right size and had a perfect look. The child would probably have preferred a bell with a louder ring - his parents maybe not so much.

I am a middle school teacher, and I have been wanting a little bell to get my students' attention. This bell is just right. It has a nice tone, and it is not too big or loud. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that the wood on the handle is not exactly smooth and perfectly finished.

Sent this as a gift to someone who was bedridden as a joke and get well present. The good news is that he loved the bell. The bad news is that his wife wanted to put the bell up his... well you know.

Solid construction, attractive and loud ring. I use it to bell-train two stubborn beagles to come inside when I ring it. The sound is loud enough that they can hear me outside. The handle looks like it was only half-stained, but that's not important to me. I'd buy again.

Pretty nice bell, but it was shipped with extremely weak wire holding the clapper. We had to replace that with something stronger almost immediately. Can't complain much though, because the rest is great. Good polish, very pretty wood on the handle and a very nice tone.

The bell looks nice. my only complaint is that it is assembled a little wonky. The brass knob on top was adhered off center. it looks a little cheap, but otherwise the rest is great. it has a nice sound, a good weight in my hand, and is very sturdy and nice looking.
