great deal
got two today was very surprised at the quality for the price just bought a saltwater rod at wal mart 8ft for twice the price these poles are a foot shorter but for the money and quality i would recommend them. After receiving the poles, I immediately ordered 1 more pole almost to good to be true for the price

Good product for the cheap price!! I use it to fish salt water!! Have landed 30 pound fish with no problem!!

Affordable
This rod n reel combo is a great deal. I read others reviews before I purchased it so as soon as it arrived I changed the line and put electrical tape around the pin on the handle. It works great I wouldn't recommend using this until after you change the line. Its great for budget minded people.

Fishing at its best
Great fishing pole and reel.. ive used the south bend poles before and they stand up to the challenge of providing a good fishing experience... i would recommend anyone who is interested in beginner level fishing to buy this rod .. im looking to buy at least 2 more

Quality Control Issues.
I ordered 2 of these poles the first time, One came with no handle, No retaining screw for the handle, and what sounds like bad gears in the reel.The second pole came with no retaining screw for the handle.Amazon promptly sent replacements for these poles, The second set of poles came all intact and they seem to be in good order so far.

Nice big ROD!!!!
Nice rod!! The reel isn't the best but will work in a pinch or kept as backup reel...I just wanted the rod since my other one broke. I put my pfluger reel on it and gave the wifey the reel for her pole

Average - does the job as a spare rod
I was surprised with the weight of the rod as it feels big and heavy. I purchased it as a spare or loaner rod when company wants to fish. It should hold up as it is very sturdy. The reel didn't impress me, seems big and clunky. It did hold up to a full day of fishing but not as smooth as I'm use too. The line that came with it is strong. Not sure the strength but thicker than the 8lb test on my other rod.
